I've visited here and came around underwhelmed…read more Let's start with the positive. Following my visit, I got a very prompt welcome note, which was much appreciated. On the down side, the vibe is just not good here. After services, I went to coffee hour, and I'm a pretty gregarious person. That said, not one single person said hello, and I never did find anyone with whom to talk. Also, an important disclaimer: My visit was not recent, and the church has been in transition. Fingers crossed that things are looking up at the church.

Great Hindu temple with South Indian deities and delicious dosa!…read more In the center, there's a large statue of Sri Venkateswara or Tirupati Balaji, which is another form of Lord Vishnu worshipped in the South. There are a handful of deities that are more prevalent in the North like Ganesha, Hanuman, Durga, etc. Even though I'm North Indian, I enjoy coming to the temple and worshipping all the deities. There's a wonderful cafeteria downstairs with scrumptious masala dosas, warm tea, and some other apps. There's a great Deepavali annual celebration with fireworks and puja for a few days along with a special Thali and other types of food offered during the festivities. There are events at the temple which you can easily find online. The Thali is a bit different than a traditional Thali with a ginormous Puri, which is more like a Batura, the dhal/kitcheri was quite tasty. The channa chick peas were a bit undercooked and the rice had a spicy kick! While the Thali was fun to try, I'd stick to the Masala Dosas. The heated tile floor downstairs will keep your feet nice and warm. Don't forgot to bring socks for sanitation/hygiene in the bathrooms. My favorite local Hindu temple and always look forward to returning for some worship and dosa!

Out of curiosity I found out the Hindu temple was hosting Tirumala Tirupati Lord Sri (Balaji) Venkateswara from India! From discussing the event with co-workers, it is considered a great honor to receive the Lord's blessing with the great bhakti, Shradda and enjoy the feeling of being in Tirumala Tirupati (India). Devoted Hindu's and open minded patrons had an opportunity to participate in all sevas and obtain the blessings of Lord Sri Venkateswara. Very conservative with sermons mainly covering Catholicism 101....fine for grade school kids. No thought provoking commentary nor complex challenging topics to inspire. Music is the one bright light for the praise and worship Mass but lots of chanting and Latin sung at other times, not to mention absolutely choking incense in over abundance. Activities focus on young men's groups , such as multiple retreats and holy hours. Why does exposition start in the evening and end in the early morning? No way to give voice to your concerns or suggestions..no email addresses for priests or staff published. It pretty obvious they are most interested in recruiting for vocations and for whatever benefits their own school students. Older parishioners are on their own. Supposedly a parish plan will be addressed in the spring but there has been no request for feedback from the congregation as a whole. Am not sure if there has ever been a parish council that has actually been involved in what goes on. Certain folks have been recruited to drive this plan from my understanding. Too bad the Church of the Nativity, Good Shepherd Catholic Church or St. John Neumann are just a little too far and most of the diocese as a whole is ultra-conservative (well known fact along with Nebraska) with the exception of a very few bright lights. Any vestige of Vatican II seems long swept away, sadly.

Still huge emphasis on vocations for young men 18 to 35....lots of activities to snag those folks....resources not very equally spread among the congregation. Date night was started with pretty grim, not fun, lectures to hear, plus one brings a dish and THEN is encouraged to pay $25 per couple for the "dinner." We won't be returning. Plans to build an adoration chapel supersede updating the one grim bathroom facility in the vestibule or the side church entrance which is steep with a heavy door and dangerous step.... certainly not ADA compliant. We absolutely need that side door opened nonetheless to prevent a long walk up hill from the parking lot; however it is mostly locked despite requests to keep it open. C'mon folks.....we are Catholics yes, but we are human beings too in an aging population. The side entrance needs not just a sign that reads "step down"...how about fixing it? A crying room is sorely needed for the screaming kids who seem present during whichever service you attend. Please wake up, St. Leo's....you seem to be making an effort to be more inclusive, but the physical plant needs huge improvements and don't forget that those highly sought after young men have mothers, sisters, grandmothers, and other women in their homes who need spiritual nourishment as well. Statistics show that people are leaving the Catholic Church everywhere...please pay attention to ALL parishioners. ps...please don't ever tell me how to vote!!

The children's services are amazing as well. The children's pastors are compassionate and really strives to meet our children's needs. The head pastor is very relatable in his preaching. You can tell he truly cares for his 'flock', and most everyone there has great love for him and his family. A really great church to be a part of! I hate people think that this church is only out for the money. This church does its part in supporting missions, the local community, and their members. Churches have to have money in order to meet the needs of the members and community it is in. The Bible gives the example of tithing and this concept comes from God. No one likes to part with their money, but if you only understood that it's not about the money, but giving back to God's 'house' to provide for God's family within those church doors. More-so it is to give out of a pure heart back to God. All he asks is for 10% of what he's providing you. This church does not ask nonmembers to give to the church at all. They provide multiple ways for people to give out of convenience for the church members. This church has so many ministries God has put on peoples hearts seeing the need. One if which is to have a fully accredited private school from grades preschool to 12th grade! This school is a ministry out of this church, not a separate money maker. The staff and teachers are really great to work with and honestly I hate being asked for money above my tithe and then school fees but just because this is a church doesn't mean it has to look and function as if we were in a third world country. I believe it is important that the local church meet the needs of its members and community and just sometimes God doesn't tell all of us outsiders what the church needs to accomplish this. God provides for His church and its needs through those who have a pure heart and those he's moved to do so. If you don't wish to give don't. If you don't believe in what this church is doing, don't give, don't attend. It is a personal thing. There are millions of churches out there. Show me one that doesn't need money to function as God set up the local church to function. I'm not talking about tv pastors. I'm talking about churches that are in the trenches with their members and community and who support missions in other locations nationally and internationally.

This is a small but growing Muslim community in Leesburg, VA. There is a barn on the property that…read morewas renovated into a masjid that can probably hold 200 people. They offer five daily prayers and have weekly gatherings. They also try to offer monthly events. I've been in this community for almost two years and I love it. Important note regarding Salatul Jummah. It is done at the Clarion Inn hotel in Leesburg. They do not pray at the masjid for Salatul Jummah. This is most likely due to parking and bathroom facilities. The masjid currently only has one bathroom and two sinks in the wudhu area. It is in the house next to the masjid. So come with wudhu to make it easy. They have plans to build a permanent masjid on the location as the land is very big and they own it.
