I have fairly significant dental work that needed doing. I knew this, as during every meal and…read moreevery drink I drank I could feel my fillings reacting to food and coolness. I went to "Praxis fur Praventive Zahnheilkunde"/Ralph Wimberger's office (and saw a Dentist by the name of Johanna- she is HIGHLY competent and calming). First a hygienist cleaned my teeth- the atmosphere in there is very Zen by the way- and she was quite thorough, professional and checked in frequently to be sure I was not uncomfortable. Due to my dental issues, I was sensitive, so she was good about not using the machine powered plaque remover, and did it by hand in those locations. Then came Johanna after my cleaning. I explained all the symptoms I had- the whole list- and after doing the proper dental check with the assistant (counting your teeth, probing them for softness, etc) she found that 3 of my fillings were loose (likely due to grinding of teeth at night or old fillings) and directly showed me how the dental instrument went right underneath the filling where the bacteria and ultimately cavity had developed. She showed me the dark areas that were cavities. The black spot that appeared along my gum line was actually on my tooth, and it was a cervical cavity indeed. So 3 re-do's on my existing fillings and one new one on my canine. I have had 2 done so far and another is scheduled to finish off the other teeth. Prior to the two fillings, I explained to Johanna that when I was 11 a dentist did not numb me enough and hit a nerve which sent me out of my chair essentially. We communicated about what steps would be taken to avoid this and she successfully numbed me in the two spots I was to get work done (one location need two injections and she was quite careful to be sure I was well numbed). The procedure went just fine, with calming music in the background to keep me relaxed and then when the fillings were done she asked me to bite down to be sure there was no part of the new fillings obstructing my bite. They were truly -excellent- in their work, careful and professional. I will be going back for my next two fillings with comfort.
