Tony was helpful, knowledgeable, personable and gave us his assurance that the job would be done right, and if we had any problems areas after the carpet dried, he would come back, free of charge, until we were satisfied. A fair price and impeccable service.

Mr Phillips, it's a shame that you responded to my review the way you did. I did receive a phone…read morecall from you which I appreciated. It explained a lot. I planned on leaving a comment about how appreciative I was that you called and explained what was going on within your own company once I got my refund. It was going to be positive but now I can't do that. First of all I haven't received my refund yet. It's coming through snail mail so I'm sure I will get it in about a month or so right Mr. Phillips? Second I have been trying to get my mother's date of death on the headstone for quite some time now. I went through the cemetery first for over 2 years trying to get this done and now your company for at least 7 months. How dare you act like I'm a bad person because I could not afford to have the date added until I started this venture and have been trying for years to get this done. And I did not expect you to jump me to the head of the line. It's been 7 months since I paid you so I at least expected it to be done by now. It's not been raining there for 7 months straight. You admitted that you didn't know anything about my request which I felt bad about but you admitted your staff wasn't exactly the greatest and you had to "change your staff" (that means fire them because they were incompetent or "crooks" stealing your clients money). I truly believed you were a Christian as you said you were but I'm not so sure now. Christian people don't try to retaliate because they don't like what you said. Christian's forgive and help. My mother was a Christian and she always helped people from the goodness of her heart. I'm disappointed in you Mr Phillips. After talking with you I thought you were sincere. Clearly not.

Part of historic Africatown USA here in Mobile, Alabama. Directly off of Africatown Bay Bridge (…read moreUS-90). Part of a very important part of slavery and civil rights history. Most of the graves have slabs over them due to the cemetery's proximity to Mobile Bay. The cemetery is flat in some parts, and a little steep and uneven in other parts. Most of the cemetery is well kept, with exception to some graves in the rear that are a bit overgrown. I do believe The Africa-town Heritage House is being constructed nearby and will also have a museum as well. Forgive me, I am new to Mobile, AL, & am still learning a lot about it's history, so I do not have a whole lot of information to share. Do not let that discourage you from visiting.

I recently had my funeral service held here for my son and everything from the reception to the…read morewarm welcome was nothing but exceptional. I had invited at least 45 people to attend the funeral, and for a large portion of the service, it went smoothly and as intended. It was only until my ex wife arrived that everything started to go downhill. Being the petty ex-partner she was, she came with hellfire and brimstone following behind her. As soon as she arrived, she began throwing accusations at me and my guests that my son was not dead, and instead, was claiming that we were holding her husband hostage within the coffin in the middle of the room. We all collectively laughed at her, brushing off her incoherent screeching as nothing more than delusion. When she began using the cake knife as a weapon, and the punch bowl ladle as a makeshift blunt object, the staff promptly called in their bouncer "Jaquan" to deal with the situation. Police were immediately called, and dragged the demented woman away from the premise. We soon all raised a toast to my son as he was lowered into his grave, ignoring the desperate and aggressive pounding coming from inside the coffin. Overall, I was very pleased with my time here at Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, and would recommend their wonderful services for any untimely passing of any friend or family member you may have.

If I could give the zero stars I would. I unexpectedly lost my beloved husband July 23. He died…read moreof a head injury from a fall at home. He was sent to the coroner for autopsy. I was not allowed to see him at all. Finally he was released to the funeral home. We were planning to have have him cremated per his wishes. The people at the funeral home gave us an "appointment" that we could see his body. When my daughter and granddaughter, and I arrived, I was desperate to see him. I was told no, we had time do the paperwork first. She meant pay. She seemed to be intentionally stalling and dragging out the paperwork. I got very upset because all I could think about was telling my beloved husband goodbye and that I loved him one last time. She walked out and told me that she couldn't deal with me. Well, I'm sorry but the hurt feelings could have been avoided if she had just let us see him FIRST. Then, when the paperwork was finally finished, she told us we had 10 minutes. I told her that the man told us over the phone 15 to 20 minutes. It was for "ID only". She pushed a paper across the table and told me to look right there as she pointed, this is the policy. I just burst into tears. She led us back to the room where he lay and let us in. We stayed with him for a while, said our goodbyes and then we left. Losing your mate if 36 years, unexpectedly, to a horrible accident, and having him taken away to the coroner is awful enough but to be treated like we were at this funeral home, no compassion at all for the newly widowed wife or family. I wish we had never even heard the name Hughes funeral home. I strongly recommend people, that you start planning now and avoid this funeral home. My husband and I were new to the area and had no idea. When you are in a business where people are devastated by the loss of a loved one, you dont add to the pain which these people did.
