Called to see if they had a tire that i could buy, was told to come in and they would have it.... I tried to double check and all i got was "yeah, yeah, yea come in we got you." i showed up and they didnt have the tire, couldnt get one till the next day and tried to charge me $295 for a $165 job (thats what i ended up paying somewhere else.) They then told me that this is a way for them to guarantee business, just tell people "yeah, yeah, yeah we got you." They called the police on me because i was upset and couldnt move my car, they showed up and i told them what happened and they laughed at them and told me not to worry about it. read more

Crazy old Asian woman behind the counter has no business being there. The pump wasn't working, yet she keep trying to pump my gas. I told her it was broke and she said: NO YOU WAIT! Next she tells me I must go to pump station #5, a guy drives up while I'm getting there so I go to Station #1.. I go in to tell her and she yells at me and says: I ALREADY PUT IT ON #1 NOW GO.. Crazy lady! I will never go back, unless I am hurting for gas.. But I'd rather go down to 14th and Mission instead. I'd prefer to never see that crazy again! read more

its very hard to find hones and trust worthy people in the service industry. I had a problem with my old van 91 ford. I use the van for work. anyway the van sometimes would not start in the morning or it would crank forever before it starts. I took the van to several places and everyone wanted in arm and a leg to just find the issue. So as happens to be I pull up to the gas station to fill gas, and as the tank is filling up i saw the repair shop. I asked a guy their by the name of Vu if he knew what the problem might be. Vu gave me the possible problems and cost. Right their and then I felt the difference in service. He did not pull the clip board and point out the cost of the labor per hour. Vu has great sense of customer service I can tell because I am business owner. Their is great effort put into fixing the problem and making sure the customer is happy. The prices are very reasonable. Since then I have been taking all of the vans for whatever attention they need. I like the service most because of the comfort level in the atmosphere. I didn't feel pressured to sign anything. I didn't feel they are trying to sell me anything I did not need, and importantly they explain whats done to some of us out their who are not mechanics. Came in to get a gas can and 1 gallon of gas. Ran my debit for 24 dollars. Looking at my statement online and noticed an additional SEPARATE charge of 50 bucks and some change. Printed out my statement, took it down there where I was told the "merchant "numbers were different, so it must have been another location. Since that was the only Shell I went to that day, I reported an unauthorized charge to my bank. They looked into it further and found that both charges went through a separate but identical location on Oak st. WTF?? SHADY read more

Car didn't pass a smog inspection elsewhere. Took it to Vu's to get it diagnosed. He gave me a few options for possibly improving the outcome of the test before having to fix anything. When those didn't pan out he took my car in and diagnosed and fixed the issue that day even though he was busy and I was a walk-in because I had a DMV appointment the next morning. He didn't have to do that but called me with that surprise! And when I had to wait for the car and had a few hours to kill, it started to rain and he ran into his garage and dug an umbrella for me out of a box so I could stay dry while killing time in the Mission. Next day when I got my plates I stopped in for something real quick and Vu ended up offering to put on my plates for me and gave some solid advice on my old old car for free. My mechanic did a major tune up on my vehicle and I ask would it pass Smog, he said of course with flying colors. I told him I would go to the Shell down the street to get the Smog, he almost begged me not to go there. I said, I know enough about cars' to make sure I'm ok. I watched my smog test, the guy (Du or Vu) said it was missing (the engine not in sync) I walked over and looked at the spark plug wires and pushed it back onto the spark plug. Du or Vu said, "Oh, you know about Cars?" And he actually got angry, I said I should be the one mad. I told him he's done enough and to disconnect my car I was leaving. 30 minutes later, I went to another Smog Station and passed with flying colors. This guy Du or Vu is a real nut job. I reported this Shell Station to the Better Business Bureau , California Smog and the Automotive Commission of California. I am surprised that Guerrero shell only has 3 stars. Then I go to the filtered reviews and those reviews sound more that the Guerrero shell I've known for 5 years. I came across Guerrero Shell when my 1996 VW Jetta overheated after a Giants game. Vu Fixed my car and I was able to drive back to San Jose! Vu was very up front with me about the cost of having my car fixed.... $800! He advised not spending that much for an old car with 200000 miles on it. Instead he put a bandaid on things which cost me $160 and I was able to drive my car around for another year. Now I take my 2010 civic all the way to sf for maintence. I needed to bring my 2006 Prius for a smog check (first time smog for my Prius) so I called the Shell station on 16th and Guerrero. The mechanic said they are able and that they were availabile if I have time to come by. I dropped off my car, walked to Tartine, had a coffee and pastry, walked back (about 30 minutes later) and my car was ready. The mechanic was genuinely friendly. This place is also a quick 5 minute walk to Valencia st . Will return to support this gas and service station again. Fully deserves 5 star rating! read more

Vu was amazing. I went in for a smog check, and he informed me that the catalytic system was "not ready" and so test could not be done until it was. It was all mumbo jumbo, and thankfully for a small fee he offered to take the car for a day and put it through the paces to fix the problem. He said if he couldn't he wouldn't charge me.
