I visited this resort last week for the Cancún Jazz Festival. It was amazing! I'm withholding one star for two reasons. the bathtub in our room was dirty. 2 the food was mediocre. I expected more flavor in Mexico but sadly I was disappointed. Still I recommend this spot. Also great for weddings.

One downside, however, was that the walls were quite thin--you could clearly hear the comings and goings of people outside, which made it less relaxing at times. A positive was that room service was available until about 2:00 a.m., which was very convenient. The resort advertised six restaurants, but unfortunately, every night one of them was closed with no clear communication about which one. Because of this, we missed out on dining at one restaurant we were hoping to try on our last night, which was disappointing. Upon arrival, we were asked if we were celebrating anything special and mentioned that it was our honeymoon. The staff did put up a nice banner and provided champagne, which was a thoughtful touch. However, we were told a special dinner was being arranged for us, and when we arrived, there was nothing different or special done, which was a letdown. The pool area was nice, and the swim-up bar was a fun feature, but it closed at 5:00 p.m. I really wish it had stayed open until at least sunset. As for the food, it was decent across the restaurants--most places felt like about a 3 out of 5 stars. One standout experience was an excursion we booked through the hotel to visit four different cenotes. It was absolutely worth the money and included transportation, snacks, drinks, and a full day exploring the cenotes. Highly recommend this experience. The beach itself was very clean, but swimming in the ocean was difficult due to the number of rocks. On a positive note, we felt very safe during our stay--the hotel was secure and had visible security measures when entering and exiting the property. Overall, a decent resort with some great amenities and experiences, but better communication and follow-through on special occasions would really improve the guest experience.

WOW This is our…read morefirst resort in Cancun and I don't think we will ever choose another one. FOOD Wow. We did our homework before our trip and saw Zilara Cancun had good/decent reviews about their food. Let me tell you, this is probably the best food I've had in a long long time. Top dishes for me are the octopus with mole and lobster tostada from Maria Marie. If you like/can eat seafood, trust me on this. The drinks are phenomenal as well. There are signature drinks at all the restaurants. Those are mostly hits but some are misses (depends on your taste buds) PRO TIP: sign up for alcohol tastings at The Den first day you get there. We did tequila and wine tasting. It was quite a unique experience. SERVICE I've never gotten treated like this in any hotel I've been at. Chef's kiss for sure. The bellhop/front desk usually can break your 20s/100s into 1s so don't feel the need to exchange pesos (unless you want to of course). The workers at the hotel (and around Cancun overall) takes USD PRO TIP: there are a lot of activities hosted by the hotel. Morning exercise classes are really fun and the night shows are just okay. The crowd is definitely on the older side that just want to come to Cancun and chill not party. From hearing the reviews, Zilara had the most amount of activities from various first hand reviews from our friends All in all, solid resort. You won't regret it!

I wish they would have advertised/told us the buffet had different theme dinners. They were our favorite for dinner. There were good dishes at each, but nothing phenomenal. I really liked the lunches they had set up by the pool. It was overall good and on par with my expectations for an all inclusive. BEACH- this is honestly one of the highlights. The resort had one of the best beaches and ability to get in the ocean. If you want to get in the ocean, this is the spot. SERVICE - this was the most disappointing. At Excellence you cannot breathe without someone asking if you need something. It took a long time for people to check on us and we tip well. Day 4 we finally found Humberto who was THE BEST! Find him and tip him well. ROOMS- they were good and I was happy with them! POOLS- the pools were fine. A little shaded. The most annoying part was the cabana situation. Some are free, some are always paid, and some are paid on certain days. I get up at like 6AM every day anyways so I got good cabanas but if you're not an early riser you're screwed. Overall, I'd return!!

My first all-inclusive resort experience, and it's so good that I think it would be hard to top…read more Six days and 5 nights is a good length to stay with children. Besides the price (extra $127/night for a toddler), we had a wonderful experience - the food (both quality and variety), the well-kepted grounds, the amenities (Kid's Club, gym, pools) and the service are all top-notch. Food: there are food available from 6AM to 11PM. Some places I visited multiple times are: The cafe (opens from 6AM to 11PM) - coffee, tea and Frappe available all day. I usually stopped by after the gym (yoga near the beach at 7AM) to grab a iced latte and freshly baked pastires (dulce de leches cruffin is my favorite). Habaneros (opens from 12-6PM) - this is a casual spot serving tacos and ceviche on the beach. Even my toddler enjoyed the mixed ceviche with octupus. I enjoyed the ceviche, salmon toastada, and octopus tacos, while my toddler playyed with sand on the beach next to the table. Moongate (opens after 5PM) - the only restaurant that requires reservation, but for Teppanyaki ONLY. We were able to make a reservation for 5PM about 3 days in advance. The Teppanyaki chefs are all super energetic and made the experience fun for both kids and adults. We went back for dinner, and enjoyed some Asian Fusion dinner of ramen and sushi/rolls. My favorites include Short-rib, Teriyaki Salmon and the Omakase Nigiri. Trade Winds (opens for breakfast and dinner) - best steak in the resort. Last but not least, it took me 3 days to find my non-alcoholic drink of choice - strawberry mojito. I'm not a fan of the pina colada here, just FYI. One thing I don't like is the dolphins in captivity. I know it's a major attraction of the resort, and my kids honestly enjoyed watching the dolphins swim around and being trained. But it still makes me sad to see them contained in such a limited area.

There are about 7-8 different restaurants and they all have their own theme/specialty. For the most part, the food here is amazing.. Like, I would come back as a regular paying customer. The people who work here appear to have a lot of pride and certainly make you feel well cared for. The service has been nothing but amazing. Highly recommend renting a cabana for a day or more. It comes with its own food/drink service (although sometimes we didn't see them for long stretches of time). You also get a free 5 minute facial for two people and two complimentary coconuts. Highly recommend because the bench chairs get taken up early in the day with people who simply put towels on them and walk away. The views here are amazing. The water is warm and blue. Everything I learned about cancun was real lol. I'd definitely come back here again in the future!

It's open bar. But all the drinks are pretty bad. The beer- Tecate Light poured from caguamas. I'd never heard of the rotgut tequila. You apparently have the option to get a bottle and a table for a few thousand pesos. Party next door for warmup at the Oxxo or Senior Frog's. The staff were all friendly, and acted like they loved their job, and had seen it all. My favorite thing was that the urinals were in the shape of mouths. The decor is amazing. The shows were fantastic. I had an amazing time. I can't wait to go back! I've never paid a cover this high, but the costumes, the cleanliness, the professional friendly staff, everything felt safe, even though there was massive amounts of booze being consumed.

Once inside, we encountered further issues, including bartenders attempting to charge us for drinks that were clearly included in the package, which felt misleading and unprofessional. More troubling, however, was the lack of safety and staff responsiveness. My sister was repeatedly harassed by another guest, who persistently kicked her seat and attempted to provoke a confrontation. Despite this ongoing behavior, no staff intervention occurred. The situation escalated when the individual poured a cocktail on my sister--only at that point did security step in. This delayed response created an uncomfortable and unsafe environment, which is unacceptable for any venue, especially one offering a paid experience. Guests should never feel at risk or unsupported in such situations. To add to the frustration, our return transportation was also delayed, as the driver arrived late. Overall, the combination of disorganization, questionable practices, and lack of adequate security made this a highly unpleasant experience. I would not recommend this venue based on our visit.

Unfortunately, for the past two years, our experiences have declined significantly. The hotel no longer maintains the level of service and standards we once loved. The atmosphere feels different, the staff are not as welcoming, and there is a noticeable lack of attentiveness and care. During this stay, we had a particularly unpleasant two-day experience at the beach regarding the setup of lounge chairs and umbrellas. Rather than going into every detail, I will simply say the situation was handled poorly and left us very disappointed. What was most upsetting was that no meaningful effort was made to resolve the issue or make up for the inconvenience. Even after speaking with Guest Relations, who mentioned contacting the General Manager, nothing improved the following day. No accommodation or gesture was offered, which was surprising given the hotel's luxury positioning. It is also noticeable that the property feels quite empty during weekdays, except on special occasions or long weekends. Even then, the warmth and hospitality we once associated with this hotel seem to be missing. That said, I want to sincerely recognize Valenzo, who served us daily. He was professional, kind, and incredibly attentive. We never had to ask for anything, he would notice small details, like refilling ice before we even realized it was melting. His service was outstanding and he truly tried to make our stay better. Thank you, Valenzo. You made a difference. It is genuinely sad to see a place that once meant so much to us lose its standard. We hope management takes guest feedback seriously and invests in retraining staff to restore the level of service this property was once known for.

To be honest, we can't imagine spending New Year's Eve anywhere else. Both times have been absolutely fantastic; the team didn't skip a beat. The resort is stunning and impeccably maintained, but what truly makes this place a gem is its incredible team and vibrant atmosphere. Entertainment The entertainment is top-notch, with a variety of high-energy performances each night. We were absolutely blown away by the Freddie Mercury tribute act. The resemblance was uncanny, and his energy was simply amazing--he had the whole place rocking! It's shows like that that make the evenings so memorable. The Heart of the Resort: The Staff As wonderful as the resort itself is, the staff are the real reason we started planning our next trip back before we even left. They made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived and are the key to the entire experience. We spent most of our days at the Excellence Club pool, and our waiter, Floricel, was a true standout. He was wildly attentive and responsive, ensuring our glasses were never empty. He didn't just take orders; he helped us discover the most incredible new drinks and his fun, engaging personality truly made our days by the pool so much more enjoyable. Our concierges, Edgar and David, were unbelievably helpful. From the moment we arrived, they helped us navigate our time at the resort, making reservations and ensuring every detail was handled. Having a dedicated concierge team like them is so important; they remove all the stress of planning and make you feel completely prioritized and cared for throughout your entire stay. We truly felt like their only guests. We also have to give a shout-out to Cesar at the lobby bar. We were so impressed that he recognized us from our previous trip, and of course, we remembered him! He is exceptionally attentive, and man, that guy is fast. He's a true professional. Last but certainly not least, a special mention goes to the man running the pizza oven at the main pool. He deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his craft. He was just killing it all day, every day, serving up perfect pizzas with a smile. It's this level of service and genuine warmth from the staff that makes Excellence Playa Mujeres feel like a home away from home. We came back home so refreshed and can't wait to return.

Excellence Club: The upgrade gives you perks that, in my opinion, are worth the splurge. You get a private beach area, a private pool, exclusive access to the Magna restaurant, and a lounge bar. In your room, they add fresh flowers, sparkling wine, and an upgraded mini bar. You also get a different room service menu and a hydrotherapy session per person. Staff: Absolutely every staff member gave us phenomenal service. Many returning guests said the staff is why they came back. Some other resorts are more technologically advanced, but Excellence is top tier for its service. Someone is always checking in, and anything you need is taken care of right away. Pools/Beach: There are several pools, including a main pool with a swim-up bar. I called this the party area because it has music and afternoon activities/games. My favorite spot to lounge was near the "lazy river" across from the ping pong and billiards. This area is quieter, and they also have some day beds available. People get up EARLY to save the day beds and the lounge chairs. One morning, I headed down just before 8 AM, and there were only two day beds left. People leave towels, bags, or books to save space. The resort does not allow this, but it's difficult to enforce because you can't tell if someone is away swimming or grabbing a snack somewhere. Be a nice human, and don't save a space for three hours while you're up in your room sleeping. The beach also has a lot of lounge chairs and day beds. I've visited the beach in the morning and in the afternoon around 1 PM and was able to snag a lounge chair. Both pool and beach areas are very well attended! There is someone going around every 10 - 20 minutes checking in on you to see if you need water, drinks, or food. Restaurants/Food: It is impossible to absolutely kill all food categories at a resort. I'm going to be honest, the American food was not it. I wasn't a fan of cheeseburgers, wings, or pizza. However, there were some restaurants and food items that stood out to me. For breakfast, you can't go wrong with the Kitchen Table. It's a brunch buffet, and my go-to was the made-to-order omelets, chilaquiles, and French toast. The freshly squeezed orange juice was amazing, AND be sure to order a cappuccino instead of their regular coffee. For lunch, I highly recommend the fish tacos at Lobster House or the agua chiles and the crunchy salmon tacos from Olas. You get a great view of the beach while you eat, and it's a great vibe. One of our favorite dinners was the interactive dining at Spice. This does require a reservation, and I recommend making this reservation when you check in. It's a teppanyaki-style dinner, and you're in a separate room with 10 people total. It's very intimate, and all the courses were delicious. Our favorite post-dinner hangout was at the Sports Bar. They have a small pool table and will likely have a game that you're looking to catch while you enjoy a beer or cocktail. Aroma was our go-to for our morning coffee and our nightly ice cream scoop before heading to our room. Their iced hazelnut coffee was excellent, and I loved their lemon sorbet. You also cannot go wrong with the 24/7 room service. Experiences/Show: Download the Excellence Collection app. You'll use it every day for entertainment schedules and restaurant menus and dress codes. There are daily fitness offerings like yoga, pickleball, volleyball, or Zumba and activities like Sip Wine & Paint and Cantarito painting on the beach. Some events have limited spots, so arrive early. Every Thursday is the Mexican Fiesta with mariachi and a huge buffet (and a ton of margaritas), so it's a great time. Shows we loved were the Burlesque, Elegance Circo, and the Magic Show. Seasons Transfer: If you stay 7 days, you get a free airport pick-up and drop-off. Seasons provided great instructions, and finding our driver was easy. The vehicle was comfortable with room for six. Our return trip felt hectic because of an accident that caused major traffic. We still made the flight, but I recommend requesting an earlier pick-up time just in case. Junior Suite: I still think about this bed. I took a picture of the mattress brand because I want one at home. The pillows were perfect, and they gave us four. The couch wasn't comfortable, and the TV options were limited. I wish there was a Netflix login option. I'm hoping this is part of the hotel renovation. There's a tub near the window we didn't use, but it was a nice option. The ocean-view balcony was 10/10. The bathroom has a glass door, so not super private, but the shower was huge with a rainfall head. Closet space was great, and the robes and slippers got daily use. Overall, I was very happy with our stay. It's worth the money, and I felt like I was in an episode of White Lotus when they greeted us with champagne.

I'd been to Royalton Riviera Cancun several years ago, but this was my first time there since they completed renovations at the end of last year, and I can happily say that the updated look of the resort is excellent, and the staff among the best of any resort in Mexico. I'm a big buffet fan, and Royalton has one of the largest, most impressive buffets (available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) that I've ever been to (this was one item I remembered with great clarity from my previous visit, and if anything the buffet is even better now). Staff members Graciela and Angel were particularly helpful. I also checked out Agave, the Mexican restaurant, and the food was superb, as was the service from my waiter, Jorge. And on my last night I hit up Taj Indian Cuisine, with excellent service from waiter Marcelino and hostess Suleman. The appetizer I ordered was so good, I requested a second plate of it. I like the way Royalton proper and the adult side, Hideaway, sit next to one another. It's easy to get between the two, but if you need some quiet and it's too loud by the main pool, you have several other options. I particularly like the small swim-up bar located just around the corner from the louder main pool/swim-up bar. The Hideaway Beach Bar (with excellent bartenders Manuel and Frank) is great for people like me, who enjoy being at the beach but get too much sun very quickly. The lobby bar just inside Royalton is also really cool. Lots of selection, and friendly bartenders like Alberto, Angel, Mateo, and Antonio (I may have spent more than a couple hours at this bar). Alejandro at the Martini Mix bar was also very nice. And Yuriana on the housekeeping staff--I can't say enough good things her and the housekeepers in general. If you want them to, they will do a comprehensive cleaning of your room, including sweeping and mopping the floor, every day. I greatly enjoyed this resort. Their renovations were well done and the staff and food are great. Seaweed is an issue this time of year, in this area, but they've got trucks hauling the stuff away, morning to evening, to clear it up as much as possible. I can recommend this resort without any concerns/reservations.
