Fantastic, Imagine a Scottish/Irish restaurant / bar serving Cajun / Creole food. Oh yes, and it is on a golf course. Sounds odd? Yes, but it is awesome. Great food, nice atmosphere, and amazing service. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is that the design is such is that it is very noisy. There were only a few people in there, and we still had to raise our voices to be heard. Christopher had a burger, it was very good. I had a few appetizers. They were amazing. Pulled up to a place that looked like a forest preserve golf course and had second thoughts. However, we decided to give it a try and are happy with that decision. Had the Stuffed Jalapenos and the Chicken Po Boy. Both were completely awesome. Mixing different concepts, flavors that went very well with each other. Both the Mac-n-Cheese and Cajun fries were awesome. For the fries, get the Cajun Ranch dipping sauce. Beer selection was awesome.Facilities are very nice, updated and an awesome view. We were leaving before the dinner crowd but it looked like it was getting very busy. We'll be back. There are at least 3-5 others entrees or sandwiches that caught my attention. read more

I'm just going to say it- I love CAJUN food. I adore it. My family is from the bayou of Louisiana so needless to say, my expectations are high. I was delighted to find that this little gem served up some amazing, spicy jambalaya. Their dirty rice was to die for as well. The food was served piping hot, fresh and tasted just divine. They had an amazing selection of alcoholic indulgences as well- for me, an Old Fashioned. I believe it was peach and ginger- WHAT?! So good. The only thing I cried myself to sleep about was the lack of grits because honestly- they make any cajun or creole dish taste better. The Grumpy Goat has a great bar area and very good food. My wife and I have come in several times on Tuesday for dinner for their half price burger nights and we started bringing my parents to the restaurant. Their wine/beer/whiskey list is extensive and above average for the area. The servers are attentive and warm with great personalities. I gave the Grumpy Goat 3 stars for one reason only. We arrived at the restaurant early this evening and I was excited to see a few open tables by the fireplace. I requested a table close to the fire for the four of us and the hostess said, "No, those tables are for parties of five or more".... What a terrible thing to say to customer! We sat down in a different part of the bar and a party of three was sat at the table I previously requested about 45 minutes later (to add insult to injury). Also, the restaurant was relatively empty all evening...it's not like they were saving it for anyone specific. In summation, I always enjoy my food at the Grumpy Goat, but this experience has left as extremely bad taste in my mouth. I may or may not come back with my family. Excellent! Service is wonderful and friendly. Food was very good. Enjoyed the jalapeño cornbread and butter very much. We went on a Tuesday and it is half price chicken sandwiches and burgers were a great deal. I had the Cajun chicken sandwich with goat cheese on pretzel bread with a side of the dirty rice - all really good with a nice spice. Husband had chicken and biscuits which was almost like a stew with biscuits. My friend had another of the chicken sandwiches and a side of their famous macaroni and cheese which is amazing. Last time I tried their shrimp entoufee (spelling??) and is was so memorable I couldn't want to have it again but their chicken sandwich deals on Tuesday were too good to pass up. We have always been happy when going for lunch but this Saturday we decided to make reservations and eat in the dining room. When we arrived they seated us at a small table set against the wall between what appeared to be 2 staff doors. It would have been better to sit in the bar room. The boy can be a serious burger junky sometimes. I try to seek out a good joint for the beef between the buns so he can get his fix! I did a scan of the Yelp app and found this joint. I really liked the flavor of the bourbon sauce and it paired nicely with the sweetness of the onions and the gouda which I switched out. I had the Fried Polenta as my side. It was ok. It didn't have a lot of seasoning and was on the bland side. The boy built his own Burger with Duck Bacon and White Cheddar. He was a little disappointed with the quality of the bacon. We've had much better duck bacon and to pay $4.50 for it, it better be really good! Well, we know better now... The boy had the mac and cheese as his side. It was ok. We actually tried Grumpy via Door Dash. We ordered Louisiana Fried chicken, bread pudding and iron skillet brownie and 2 sodas Louisiana Fried Chicken -it was great idea. Very tasty. My portion of chicken was perfectly cooked, however, the breading failed to coat the chicken. My friend's portion, unfortunately, was nearly raw. Veggies (mostly carb veggies variety of root crops) my friend like the idea of sweetness like caramelized vegetables but it did not appeal to my taste. Both of our veggies were undercooked. The Polentas were nearly burnt. Don't get me wrong. If the dish was executed perfectly, it will be a great dish. It was very tasty. Iron skillet brownie - there was an after taste in the brownie, like the oil used was old... the outer portion was very hard and dry Bread pudding - I never liked pudding but this one is a good almost great pudding. Almost great as both of my friend and I was just not a fan of bacon or savory in a dessert. I did not notice that it stated that there'll be bacon ( not their fault, I didn't read it thoroughly). I like the crusty edges of the pudding( best part) and if I wasn't full, could've finished it (minus the bacon) Sodas - I just thought that they used a highly chlorinated water in the ice that made the soda taste have a hint of bleach. This is a good place to eat with some unique meals. Many of the dishes have a very different flavor and many with a Cajun flair. They have about 6-8 of each type of entree (salad, burgers, sandwiches, etc) and if you can't find anything you like, they have a build your own burger menu. There are a lot of beers on the menu, both on tap and bottle/can. Only real knock is on service/food prep. We had one in our party ask for sandwich prepared without mayo. When the item came out it was loaded with mayo. They fixed it by replacing the bun but using the same meat (which still had mayo on it). read more

Between the three of us we drank three Daisy Cut, three Oberon and one Guinness beers. Absolutely no complaints...until the bill arrives! $86 PLUS $8.50 tax. Understand Yelp is not a place for political comments, but a 10% tax on food and beverage is a reason many people cannot afford to dine out...even higher in Chicago! Illinois is a state that is running on "empty" but taxing patrons almost 10% on food and beverage is ludicrous and will chase business away! But from a server's point of view, she did appear to have her hands full and got to us as soon as she could. Four of us went to GG last night, all of us have really enjoyed it in the past. I thought the Louisiana fried chicken was one of the best dishes I have had anywhere. NOT this time. The chicken was way over cooked. The last time I had it, you could cut it with a fork. This time I gave up cutting it with my knife about third of the way thru. Burned flavor, black on the underside, dried out, and completely uneatable. Yes the waitress, who was very apologetic, got my entry removed from the bill, but I ended up not having dinner. Never saw or heard anything form the manager who was there. Of a bigger concern, the more I think about, it is that we ordered a bottle of wine that some genius decided to stack up in a vertical "wine rack" with 6 or 8 bottles stacked on each other with nothing separating the bottles. When the waitress tried to slide our selection out of the stack, one or two bottles fell hitting a stack of glasses, that she had to reach over. Several glasses shattered, sending pieces of glass at least 20 feet across the room. For the manager's info, in case he reads this, we pointed out a couple of pieces that landed next to the fireplace. Accidents happen, and loose pieces of glass can be a nightmare to a restaurant. the pieces scattered within a foot or two of two tables with a total of 8 people. A diligent manager would have immediately moved everyone to different tables, replacing all food and drink from the table. Guess what, the closest thing to a manager that came out was the busboy that cleaned the mess up. I probably will not return. read more

I go here when I have a hankering for Cajun/Creole cooking. They do a solid job of it. You can do a bit better at Heaven on Seven if you wish to go all the way into downtown Chicago. Crawfish Ettouffee was disgusting. Tasted like crawfish in brown beef gravy. Dirty rice was in the center of it, bathed in the same disgusting brown gravy. Cafeteria like seating, pretty empty. This is more than just a place for good burgers and drinks. Try some of the creole and Cajun dishes such as their version of chicken and biscuits which is truly unique. Cajun grilled chicken with hot cheese and spinach was very good but could use more of the goat cheese and spinach with golden raisins. It adds balance to the spice. When we went on the day after Memorial day, I think the dirty rice was a little old or something so perhaps the dirty rice is better other days. The atmosphere could be improved for sure and the amount of grease in the food was high but overall, after our second or third time there, we list it among our favorite places for an occasional treat. read more
