Can't recommend enough of them! Joe came for an estimate and right off the bat we felt that they are extremely professional. The quote is valid for 30 days, but we were just so hesitant on whether to choose Joe or let our own gardener do it so when we reach out to Joe again, it was around 40 days, and Joe was super communicative and still honored the quote and made adjustment according to our budget. During the days leading to the scheduled starting day, Joe always kept us updated on whether the schedule was still on track. After the job started, our foreman Chilo did a great job of communicating with us, and the crews were always very respectful of our dog. (they even offered to wait in the car for the pup to go potty since she was scared of strangers). They tried to accommodate all of our requests on the design and we felt heard, which was all I ask for. They even helped us install a retractable water hose after they finished all the quoted work. And every day after their work, they blew our yard so the yard was never like a construction site. I reached out to over 15 landscapers in the OC area and Joe was the only one who was able to take on our project given that I had a pretty limited budget to landscape the area in front of our office building. He came out to check out our property the same day I contacted him, drafted up a proposal that night, and within 1 week we had our project scheduled, and in 3 days it was complete. If you want hire someone who just does the job and leave, then look elsewhere. But, if you want to hire a company who GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND, then you should call Growscapes. From the beginning until the end (and after the completion of the project), they will go an extra mile to take care of you! We just converted our 2000+ sq ft grass into drought tolerant landscape and ~4000 sq ft irrigation into a drip system, and added drainage. Joe, Chilo, and the team did an EXCELLENT job giving us a vision and translating it into reality (and incorporating our existing landscape)! Chilo and his team worked hard every day and cleaned up before they left. He was very patient answering all of our questions (and we had a lot). Chilo was also patient enough to take us to the nursery to pick every single plant that we wanted since we did not like some of the plants in the original design (yes, we are picky!). He then used his artistic skills to arrange all the plants (since we did not know what to do with them after we picked them). It came out VERY BEAUTIFUL, better than the original design. We got so many compliments from our neighbors! After finishing the work, he would make sure that we're happy with it. For example, there's a small curve on the bender board that we did not like, he asked his team to redo it until we're happy. Chilo and his team are the BEST! Chilo also took the time to set up and test the irrigation, and educate us on how to operate it. He wanted to set up the irrigation based on what we're planting (not just a blanket approach). There's a small area in our backyard that we were not 100% sure what to do yet and we asked him to just leave the drip hose for us to do it ourselves. At first they were hesitant to make any changes...but with the new watering restrictions their grass would be dead before the end of summer and it would not have been a pretty look. His secret mixture of decomposed granite, mulch, and rock created a functional space that was easy for me to maintain without breaking the bank. Perfect! However, with that being said I feel the employees might not be 100% on top of their projects ir this place is so busy they just don't have the time to follow up with their prospects. Great back yard transformation by Growscapes! Our project just finished today and we're ecstatic. When we purchased our property, it had a koi pond and, come to find out, another koi pond had been buried in the back corner. Both of these prevented us from using the yard and were safety hazards for our dogs. Additionally, the prior owner tried to create a Japanese garden with random plants that were not indigenous and, frankly, just not practical in Southern California. The yard was also uneven with a sprinkler system that was truly wasteful. After speaking with several contractors and getting different quotes, we decided to go with Growscapes because: (1) their quotes were specific, accurate and reasonable; (2) Joe, our project manager, was incredibly knowledgeable and had great design and plant suggestions - he was accessible and responsive to all our inquiries (even before we committed to the job); and (3) their DG work looks beautiful and that's what I wanted. Also, I like that this is a woman owned business- I was treated with respect and all my questions/inquiries were timely addressed. I have dealt with other contractors who seemed to blow me off because I'm a woman (I will not name names). The extensive demo was completed in one day!! It was a lot of work. The workers were extremely respectful of my property and left it clean. When I decided to move forward with phase two, Joe got my project started the very next weekend despite a hectic schedule. Plants and irrigation were completed the following weekend. Joe was able to get beautiful tall queen palms at a very reasonable price. Because our DG was special order, it took another two weeks to complete the DG process but it was worth the wait. We are very pleased and our dogs are too! We now have room to run and play ball in our very low maintenance drought-friendly backyard. All in all, a great experience. I reached out to Growscapes along with 2 other landscaping contractors thru Yelp. Growscapes was not the first company responded me, but they were the first one scheduled the appointment with me and showed up on time. The other two companies, both with 5 stars Yelp reviews, one said they would call me to schedule an appointment but never did, the other one showed up an hour and half late without letting us know in advance. Joe, the owner of Growscapes is a straight shooter, honest and no nonsense. The reason we didn't pick Growscapes for our project was because we needed some electrical work done and Growscapes doesn't do that. We are still in a process of locating the right landscaper who does both hard scape and soft scape. Growscapes recently helped us fulfill a long-time pending project for our home. Our Spanish-revival home landscape needed some love to not only update the look of the house but also reduce our water consumption. We were inspired by a neighbors garden and were lucky to get a referral from them to Growscapes. Joe came out to look at our yard, and I was pleased right off the bat with his suggestions. He was professional, he documented our must-haves and had some good recommendations. We previously had landscapers come by and I was often skeptical due to the informal nature of their intake and quote. I would often get a large quote, with no breakdown of how they came up with the price. Joe provided an itemized quote explaining everything, making decision-making much easier. He was flexible to add or remove items as needed to make the pricing work where possible. The crew was great. Javier, the foreman, is professional and communicated expectations daily. The crew worked incredibly hard and always ended the day by cleaning up any mess off the walkways and putting away all their gear. The end result was wonderful! We've had many compliments from folks in the neighborhood and I can't wait to see some of our succulents and grasses mature and fill in some of the decomposite granite space. [EDIT] In response to Growscape's response, you say you're not sure "what more could be done." I already suggested in my review what could be done: Let your customers know well ahead of time that we're *required* to check in on the morning of in order to keep our appointment. Don't wait until a few hours before the appointment to fire off a string of last-minute messages demanding that we check in, and then blame us if we don't respond quickly enough. As I said, I had my phone set on do-not-disturb (that's what I meant by disconnected) and was not checking it this morning. Not all of us are tied to our phones all the time. When we made the appointment, my obligation was to meet you at a certain day and time, not to reassure you a few hours before the meeting that I was ready to meet. If that was part of your rules, the least you could do is let me know well in advance. You never mentioned this until today. My dentist's office asks patients to confirm the appointment, but they send that message a week ahead, not several hours before the appointment. Also, I just saw my doctor at Kaiser. They don't require you to reconfirm the appointment at all. As long as you show up like you're supposed to, you're good. "What more could you have done?" Maybe have your guy come back and show up for the appointment like he was supposed to in the first place. You offered to reschedule us for next week, after we'd already waited nearly two weeks for this appointment. "What more could you have done?" if you're going to blow off the appointment with us for no good reason and waste half our day, be accountable for the error and don't try to gaslight us into thinking it's our fault or that you were doing us a favor in the first place. Instead you throw it in my face that you give free estimates (?)...I know it's a tough part of the job, but most landscapers (and contractors in general) give free estimates, and that free estimate--which your guy didn't even show up for--could have easily turned into a 20K job instead of a negative Yelp review. My unsolicited advice? Be willing to listen and improve your policies, treat your (potential) customers the way you'd want to be treated, and this won't be an issue. I understand why they would have a policy like this, to avoid people's wasting their time, but the proper way to enact this policy would be to give their (potential) customers advance warning that this policy's in place, like leave us a voicemail a day or two ahead of time that you want us to confirm the appointment.
