Mistakes were made when we decided to see Taylor Swift in Lyon. We were warned by our Uber driver that the concert the night before was a disaster and it would be a nightmare to try to leave Groupama Stadium but, being optimistic and having no choice anymore, we thought the experience was going to be better.
We bought tickets for the special tram that goes from Part Dieu Villette Sud to Groupama in supposedly 15 min through the stadiums official website. Getting on this tram and getting to the stadium was easy but rough. It was so crowded and hot, like sardines ready to be sealed off in a metal tin. The journey was closer to 30 min than 15.
Getting off the tram, there is no signage of where to go so we ended up in front where the food trucks are and realized afterwards we should have gone much more to the right than we thought.
Once inside, our entrance was, of course, on the complete opposite side of the building so we walked all the way around. Again, not enough adequate signage.
The concert acoustics were ok.
The biggest problem was leaving the concert. No marked pathways to tell you which way is where. The staff blocked us for at least 10 min from being able to go down the ramp to exit by the tram so people kept amassing and I was actually really worried about people getting trampled, especially seeing young children being ripped from their parents by the crowd. There were no barriers, no signage so it was a free-for-all that kind of felt like the apocalypse. The tram was no longer just for tickets holders. So imagine 50,000 people vying for the same space on a few trams. We happened to get on one of the last ones by literally fighting our way through. Nightmare that kind of marred the concert experience. read more
