DtLB has a ton of cute coffee joints, and this is no exception! I adore when coffee shops offer the classics but also have fun unique options. My friend had a classic latte and it was perfect. I had the flower feilds latte which has lavender and rose in it. I found the drink itself too be delicious and beautiful, but I will say I found myself spitting out the petals they put on top- just a few would've lent to the nice affect without allowing a ton of petals to get soggy and their bitterness to affect the drink. The inside is really cute and clean, and they have plenty of seating indoors and out. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and were working so hard- our drinks were ready so fast!! Another thing I loved was the option to have a "dine in" cup, so paper or plastic can be avoided. Parking is street parking in metered spaces only. This can be tough depending on when you go, so just plan ahead for that. read more

First walked in, whole bunch of firefighters were there & first thought was that this coffee will be good. Atmosphere was very clean. Staff very welcoming. A lot of options in the menu. Tried this little spot this weekend and let me start by saying that if you're going to have a small coffee shop in this city you're up against some big competition and the fact that this owner is super rude is one way to drive your business into the ground amongst all the heavyweights you're up against. I wasn't even sure if it was the owner that was absolutely mad dogging us the entire time we sat there, but after reading other reviews I'm certain it was. He looked like he was around mid-late 50's, white dude and a staaaaank look on his face the whole time we were there. I went with 3 other adults and 3 kids in total and yes, I get it, we have kids. Did my 1.5 year old have a 7 minute tantrum - yes she did. Luckily there were only 2 other people in there with headphones on, and trust me I know a crying child is not pleasant but I was solo parenting for the weekend and doing my damndest and I was also able to calm her down pretty quickly. That said - one of the other kids in our group is an angle child and he touched the little shade chord that goes over the window and we thought the owner was going to have a heart attack. He didn't audibly yell but if you've ever had someone silently yell at you..it's almost worst. His face winched up and turned all bright red and the dude looked like he was about to burst an aneurysm. Kid was barely touching the chord. And we stopped him right away too. So as the saga continued - the owner stood there behind the counter literally glaring at us. How dare we go in there and spend over $100 on bad coffee and bland food. How dare we bring our kids of all things! It was super uncomfortable and felt very icky. Not a fan at all, definitely won't ever go back. That all being said - I felt bad for the employees because they were all very nice. They were also a young group and had exponentially better customer service than the guy supplying their paycheck. We got 5 food items that were all very overpriced - I got the avocado toast and it was a large portion but so bland. I didn't get any egg or bacon on top because I refuse to spend $15 on a piece of stinkin toast. The bread was really good but literally just mashed up avocado, maybe some salt and pepper, three cherry tomatoes cut in half and a handful of microgreens. All with pretty much zero flavor. Needs some heavy seasoning or a drizzle of olive oil or to cost $8 so I can actually afford a topping on it. Got the blueberry latte iced and it was nothing to come back for at all. Very little blueberry flavor, espresso had a sour tinge to it I didn't care for. It got a little better after a lot of my ice melted but yea...not great. Just so disappointed in this place. I used to work at a restaurant in college and the owner reminded me way way way too much of this guy. Here's a pro tip: if you don't like people and you don't like making coffee for people or having people sit in your shop then maybe you're in the wrong business. read more

It is a very aesthetically pleasing coffee shop. The drinks are all very unique which is great in a world where coffee has become copy and paste. Worst coffee in Long Beach by far. I used to live in the neighborhood so I would frequently visit and it was decent coffee. I came back today to get a coffee and get some assignments done for school. The person taking my order made an offhand remark about my name. The people working there seem like they'd rather be anywhere else. I asked for the WiFi password so I could get do some homework and the owner rudely remarked that it was for customers only even though I bought a coffee 3 minutes prior. My sisters came to visit me this weekend and I thought it'd be fun to go for a short walk and try this place I've never tried before (I moved to DTLB a couple years ago), specially because they're big time coffee drinkers. Food: we got drinks which were good and that's why I'm giving it some stars. Ambiance: the place is super cute and cozy. Looks great for a casual breakfast spot to meet up at. The baristas were great and very nice, gave us what we asked for. Service: the lady at the register was flustered and took it out on us. I didn't appreciate her attitude when we asked a simple question of possibly substituting something on a breakfast item. Her response could have landed nicer and not so rude, it's about the delivery. I made a promise to my boyfriend for the new year that I will start drinking local coffee shops instead of going to Starbucks. so this morning was the day to start our local coffee shop adventure in Long Beach, and my boyfriend told me about this place which when he lived in Long Beach he used to come here all the time he knows the people inside. I literally live not too far so we decided to get our dog ready for a morning walk and decided to come here for some breakfast and some coffee. I was a little hesitant only because I'm so used to a certain type of coffee at Starbucks. I'm not a coffee drinker I just love the sweet taste but as I'm getting older coffee is definitely something that's very much needed for energy wise so just gonna drink coffee at least once a week, but I live in such a beautiful area that there is a lot of coffee shops. I looked at the menu as we approached and I seen that they had a white chocolate mocha which was perfect because that's one of my favorite drinks that I usually get from Starbucks so I told my boyfriend that I want it that and a breakfast burrito. My boyfriend went inside to order me and my dog sat outside in the seating area and which was my dogs first time actually being out and sitting down which she did really good. I would definitely give this place a 10 out of 10 the coffee was great. The breakfast burrito was 100%. My boyfriend ended up getting an avocado toast with some bacon on it and he added bacon in my burrito as well which I did share with my dog with the bacon not the burrito. Definitely this might have to be my go to place on a Sunday with my dog. The cafe is cute. Limited seating inside but still nice. Food is okay. Not worth the price. The service isn't that good, as I felt the cashiers could be nicer. I spent $40 on an avocado toast, a tea, a coffee, and a coffee cake. From my knowledge, coffee cake usually doesn't have walnuts. The cakes weren't visible, as the wrapping covers it. After ordering we received the coffee cake, which had nuts on it and we weren't sure if they were walnuts (my bf has a walnut allergy.) I checked to see if it was walnuts, and he took it back to tell the cashier he didn't know their coffee cakes had walnuts and if he could get something else. We were told because we touched it we couldn't get anything else, and he paid for a muffin which was the other option. It was $5. She was not rude about it, but it was an allergy, not a case of disliking an item. I'm definitely not a karen nor do I feel like an entitled customer, but I've experienced much better customer service. I thought that was silly after we spent $40. wouldn't return, better options. customer service is what brings people back to a small business. also want to note the owner replied to someone complaining about their coffee saying "we could have remade it had you told us." don't see how you can remake a $8 coffee but not replace a $5 coffee cake. read more

I've been meaning to check this coffee shop out and after a long WFH day I decided to spend my last 2 hours of work outside. The shop was very busy when I arrived and the server taking orders was helpful in my decision. I got their matcha rose in a medium and I'm glad I did. Let's talk about service: Last time I checked, when a store markers closing hours at 4pm - they take orders, let customers use the restroom, & allow customers to seat comfortably at their tables UNTIL 4pm. Sure, it's nice of customers to leave a little earlier to give you time to clean/calculate totals/bring chairs and tables inside/etc, but there's a difference between closing at 3:45pm and 4pm. Here's my experience: - Walked in on a weekday around 2:45pm. - placed an order & approached an empty table to a lady (maybe the owner?) cleaning the floor near it. - "you can't sit here. I'm cleaning it." - "... okay." I proceed to sit at the table next to it. - her: *looks at her watch then says "we're closing soon." - me: "in around an hour, no?" - she looks at me: "yeah." - alright lady, point taken. In the next hour, I hear the same lady inform new customers who came in after me that the store will close in 15 minutes. She says this at 3:30pm. At 3:40pm, three gentleman walk in to order coffee: - "the restroom is closed." - "no credit card now, just cash. The register is closed." - "no espresso drinks also." These three gentleman then proceed to leave to find another coffee shop. While I was excited to try this spot out, I won't be returning due to the service. If you have an occasion or event that you need to close your shop for, at least inform customers instead of making them feel unwelcome for the last 75 minutes that your cafe is open for. As someone who has closed many, many times for a restaurant myself - I was taught never to rush the customers until the absolute closing time, down to the minute. I realize these are just my values but I feel like it should resonate with all food/beverage spots, no? But these are just my two cents. read more

Let's start by saying this cute little coffee shop is walking distance from my place and today was the day I actually got the chance to sit down and embrace the ambiance. The food is impeccable today I tried the sunrise sandwich. The egg was perfectly runny and the bacon was cooked with that lovely crispy texture and subtle softness at the same time in the middle just how I like it. It included onions and tomatoes as well as arugula which complimented the sandwich. But what really struck me by surprise was the kick from the habanero jam which gave the sandwich added flavor with the little extra heat which I appreciated. The service was excellent warm welcoming upon arrival from the baristas. It was helpful to have pictures of the food options to make your selection easier. My iced hazelnut latte with Oatmilk was the right ratio of espresso and creaminess from the oatmilk and hazelnut flavor. Upon sitting down I was brought over my food to my table which I appreciated. In all my years apart of this community as a neighbor & biz owner in DTLB-I've NEVER had an experience like today's horrific "interaction" with the self proclaimed female "owner" of Ground Hideout. Let's say for this business' sake this deranged woman is not the owner, if so, this business is in serious trouble having someone as nasty as she representing it. For context, I've been coming here DAILY (5-6) times a week since the closure of BB, so a year+ of consistent patronage DAILY. This woman is often on-site & never social/polite, but anyone who frequents GHC will tell you this place is not known for its sociable staff. Thats fine. We come because its a convenient location. Despite daily patronage for over a year, none of the baristas ever bothered to learn my name, that's also ok. But today I was verbally & almost physically assaulted by this woman & captured the partial exchange on video. I proceeded to order a Chimmi sandwich w/o meat-very simple. In fact I've placed this exact order 3 times in the last 10 days. Then the barista confusingly stopped me & turned to this "owner" asking if they could w/h meat, she rolls her eyes & says no. I was like ok cool, I'll just get the coffee then but felt it appropriate to point out both of these 2 individuals had allowed me to order this exact same order twice in this past week. I wasn't even asking for a price adjustment? I mean NOTHING! I asked why their decision had changed- she looked at me - blatantly lied to my face and said aggressively "id never approve that, if you want something without meat then we have a veggie sandwich". No way was I going to argue with such a bizarre retort that made no sense & was a known lie, so I just shrugged. While I waited, I verified my memory was accurate by checking both my bank transactions & my phone pics - finding actual photos of this EXACT sandwich that she claimed never happened. When she rudely came outside to drop my drink, I kindly just pointed out to her that it was in fact her who had approved of it -showing the pic. As a biz owner myself (which I also told her) transparency/honesty are most valued & its ok to be mistaken or have made an error, just admit it - no need to throw a patron who comes DAILY under the bus because you the "owner" lied & were caught. I was laughing about it! I just wanted to point out to her that she was the one who had done it before. She then went from 0-100 SO FAST & began screaming at me, took away my drink (that i PAID for) & instead of apologizing she threatened me because I then asked for her name (and provided mine first)& said she was calling the police, which I suggested that she do-she didnt of course. I wish she had...as if an officer had arrived they would see this "owner" threatening a confused patron. She got in my face (called me lady/cursed me in Spanish).Clearly, this woman is suffering from mental illness which is NO joke, but it makes me worried for any patron who may ever point something out -if she's in charge? I then went inside expecting my refund since she took my drink back & she continued to refuse to give me her name (even when I calmly had twice + shared my biz details) which indicates to me she knew she had gone WAY too far..In front of multiple patrons (one recorded it & followed me out offering to airdrop me their content, which I now have).When I began filming-she surged toward me from behind register, trying to grab my phone (see photo stills) as again, she knew she was wrong. When I expressed its a shame that her actions had to warrant a loss of daily patronage (where I spent 25-30$/daily) she MOCKED me saying that Im "nothing" & that she has patrons who "spend 100$ a day!". Obviously this is nonsense, yes they're overpriced, but even that is a bizarre claim. Just further proving my point that she's unstable & ill equipped to run a safe business. The male barista pictured in the background was so embarrassed he kept his head down claiming he didn't see anything when I asked for his help to verify this. Despite him being one of the people who processed my order last week! To summarize, this owner 1st blamed the issue on her "brother" & other employee who conveniently weren't there today, dismissing them as "only employees so therefore they don't know the rules & only I get to approve things", cursed me/screamed @ me, made patrons feel unsafe, lastly verbally & nearly physically assaulted me. Her grabbing my private property in an effort to not be filmed CROSSED the line & I went straight to file a police report today.Alerting our beloved food community is next. To feel unsafe in a coffee shop Ive supported w/ my money is totally crazy & her aggression was dangerous & unhinged. The coffee here is amazing and it is so cute inside, but the environment of the shop was not to my liking. For me the service that is provided is much more important than the product. While sitting in the coffee shop I could over hear the employees talking about how other places coffee are bad because they don't have the right grinders. Then there was a lady who wanted milk in her drink and the employee wouldn't allow her to have milk in her drink because it ruins the "flavor." To me these experiences even though I was just witnessing it gave the place a negative aura. I don't think it is professional to talk bad about other places and to not allow someone to have their drink the way they want it. The coffee is really good but I have decided that I will be going elsewhere. The business just messaged me and was completely inappropriate in the messages ): Instead of the business listening to my concerns they defended the incident that happened and disregarded my feelings for what happened. Seriously, never been treated so poorly in an establishment before. I was screamed at for attempting to wash my hands before ordering food. "Bathrooms are for customers only" multiple times. I told them I was going to order food but needed to wash my hands. They screamed at me and told me it wasn't allowed. No wonder it's dead on a Saturday. Learn how to treat your customers. Our FAVORITE coffee shop in DTLB hands down! Since we moved to DTLB we have been looking for a mom & pop coffee shop nearby. We try to avoid the typical Starbucks coffee unless we're really desperate. We were searching on Yelp to see what coffee shops were near our apartment. Originally, we were going to Recreational Coffee just a block away but somehow ended up here when we took a wrong turn. And I'm so glad we did! It was like fate brought us here. Ground Hideout Coffee is a family-owned coffee shop that has exceptional coffee and delicious breakfast foods! I usually get my regular coffee which is the Mocha Expresso with oat milk. I must say, this place beats all the other coffee shops I have ever been to when it comes to their mocha. I like to get Mocha at every coffee shop to try it and compare. Ground Hideout is definitely number one on my list. I have also tried the White Mocha and let me tell you, it's way better than the white mocha at Starbucks or any other coffee shop. The Mocha here at Ground Hideout is the perfect combination of chocolate and coffee. My husband likes to get the Vanilla Latte and he absolutely loves it here! He's usually picky with his Vanilla Latte and also likes to try it at every coffee shop we go to. And so far this place is at the top of his list too! Also this is one of the very few coffee shops where both their hot and iced coffees are equally delicious. If you are searching for a mom & pop coffee shop that has delicious coffee and food, this is the place to go! Ground Hideout Coffee is family-owned and the owner along with her three children all work here. The owner even approached us to make sure we were enjoying the coffee and food. She started a conversation with us asking about our 7 month old daughter and went on to talk about her family and also introduced her children to us. Could be the best coffee in Long Beach! I know that's a bold statement with high competition but this place is really great! Family owned and always really good service. I came into this place to sit down and work/do some work meetings as anyone would at a coffee shop and I was met with the rudest manager (possibly the owner). I know for a fact I will not be returning because of this experience. The music was blasted inside the cafe and I could hear it even with my AirPods on noise cancellation mode. So instead of asking them to turn it down I went outside to take my meeting and she came outside to let me know that she won't be taking any responsibility for my tote bag if it were to get stolen interrupting a very important work meeting. She was extremely rude when she came and approached me and was also rude to the other patron. First and last time I will be coming here. read more

Came here the day before and got a vanilla latte, it tasted great. Came back the next day and ordered the same thing, it tasted burnt and didn't taste like vanilla was added. When I asked about this, I was just told that they did add vanilla - there was no attempt to improve the drink or remake it. I didn't argue (because the barista responded aggressively and I didn't want any issues), but it was disappointing given that I enjoyed the drink that was made the previous day and was expecting a consistent quality especially for nearly $8 dollars. Update: the "business owner" who responded to my review seems to be the one who made my drink. She also responded within minutes of me posting this review (while I was still at this cafe). She was so upset at my review that she removed my connection to the cafes WiFi (while I was there doing work, and after paying for a latte). Her response solidifies that she is aggressive and if I had requested she remake my drink she would have had an issue with that. I stand by my original review. read more
