Pretty good place! I came here for an avocado toast and a PB&J sandwich. This family owned coffee shop is the best in long beach. They have seasonal lattes, pastries and other goodies here. They have tables and chairs outside along the sidewalk and the area is very relaxing. I always hear the latte and drinks are some of the best in town but i was here for the food. I got the PB&J toasted on brioche bread and friend got the avocado toast with (smashed avocado, cherry tomatoes, micro-greens, salt + pepper on toasted sourdough bread) I had a piece of both and very good and fresh tasting. I want to come back and try the almond oatmeal mylk lab drinks which looks good. The only downfall is you will pay to park. My first order here was a matcha honey latte with oat milk, and as a lowkey matcha snob, I'd rank this as top 2 spots for matcha in Long Beach. It was the ideal ratio of matcha, sweetness, and milk. A bit pricey, but the quality made it worth it. The cashier at the time was sweet and patient in explaining all their unique drinks to me. I looked forward to trying the spring seasonal menu for my second visit, and was intrigued by their blueberry latte. As I ordered, I noticed I had a 15% rewards, and asked if I can apply it. The cashier said she didn't see anything, and I thought oh okay probably misread. I didn't, I looked on my 5 Stars app later to see I did have the reward and it was set to expire in two days. A little annoying but it's a small mistake. I regret to say my experience at Ground Hideout was soured (literally) by the blueberry latte I ordered. As pretty as it was, there was no aroma/taste of espresso, and it was sour?? I mixed it up with the blueberry milk in hopes the flavor will blend together well - it didn't. I ended up with a stomachache 30 minutes later. It had to have been rancid. I have never tasted a latte/espresso drink that lacked ANY taste of coffee like this before. I am still so perplexed, how is it sour?? It certainly isn't from the milk. I am beyond disappointed and now miffed at the $7 price point for questionable espresso that ruined the blueberry milk. Overall, recommend the matcha here, stray from the coffee in my opinion. But maybe I just went at the wrong time. read more

This place was actually really good :) me and my boyfriend spent a weekend in long beach and decided to try this place out because why not? I tried the chaga matcha and he tried a hazelnut latte with the Turkey pesto sandwich (highly recommend) and it was honestly pretty awesome. My first time here did not leave the best impression. I had been eyeing Ground Hideout Coffee for sometime and decided to meet up with friends here instead of our usual local coffee shop. I got here early and really needed to pee before ordering my drink. There was a woman already ordering so I thought I could ask the barista for the code instead of waiting. The bathroom is for customers only as clearly stated on the door sign. I asked the barista and then the cashier who asked another woman (who I assumed was her mother) that responded in Spanish. She relayed to me that I MUST pay first. I said I was meeting friends there and was going to make a purchase but REALLY needed to pee first. No budge. I would have gladly left my phone or wallet as collateral. So, I hurried a look at the menu, ordered a drink, paid and then they gave me the code. It's really unfortunate that they must have had bad experiences with unhoused or something to make them so firmly unwelcoming to & untrusting of me. When my friends came, we enjoyed the patio seating. It's a cute shop and the drinks were good. Chocolate chip cookie was dry and crumbly. We likely won't be coming back. read more

What a CUTE place, oh my! I love how they have some bench seating at the front tables with uber cute pillows. (There is also a normal table or two--I just love the front table the most.) The coffee itself is decent, but the way she treats customers is shocking. She's incredibly rude, dismissive, and seems to have no patience for simple questions or requests. They were offering Barbie themed coffee, so I said "why not?!" to be honest it wasn't very great but my friend ordered a regular iced vanilla latte and it was actually pretty delicious. I've never been to this location before and have never heard about it, but it is around the corner from one of the places that I get lunch often. i wanted to like this place but i will never come back. so trash the cashier said the drink i picked wasn't too sweet but it ended up being extremely sweet. I wanted to switch out the drink after spending $50+ here with breakfast I figured it wouldn't be an issue. All i asked for was a simple drink change and I was told no because they can't please everyone. I have never been to a coffee shop that doesn't change your drink if you are displeased with the way it was made. Such a simple request turned into a hostile issue that didn't even need to happen. Recreational Coffee is super close by and is super welcoming and friendly and will change your drink if it's not made to your liking. Take your business elsewhere. This place needs to learn how to treat their customers. All the 1 star reviews have the same conclusion the people who run this place are rude and lack customer service skills. I am a very loyal customer to this place and come here often for coffee and am a pretty loyal customer. I took my friend here to show her how amazing it was and they kicked us out because they said we weren't wearing any shirts. We were both wearing crop tops but all cleavage was coverage. At first i thought she was kidding but she rudely told us we were not allowed to be inside because it was a family owned business. Now if we were wearing bikinis i could see how this would be an issue but we werent. Even so, a more appropriate response would be asking us to order online outside (we were trying leave after ordering). We just couldn't pass up this cute little coffee shop. There are a few tables which line up against the window with seatings on the window ledge. Pillows make it super cozy. And supporting any small business brings us joy. So we stopped in and grabbed a latte, straight up. wow, great coffee. They source their coffee beans from Verve (out of Santa Cruz). What a good tasting coffee. Due to the recent rise in covid-19 cases, we had our coffee to go. What a cool lid - a pentagon-shaped bowl to prevent any spills. This lid impresses me. It goes to show how important choosing products for your business is. Maybe next time we will enjoy our lattes there and grab a snack. They do have some pastries and egg plates on the menu. Be safe. I have to say the drinks are really good. There is an older lady who works there pretty sure it's the owner too, that is really rude and not welcoming at all. I was holding the door open for my friend to come out and she yelled out for me to close it in front of everyone . And that's just one of the things she did.
