I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Music Circus!! If I could afford it, I'd get season tickets without…read morea doubt! Being a huge fan of musicals and theatre, this venue takes it to a whole 'nutha level IMO. I mean, I've NEVER been to a venue where you almost feel immersed in the performance, with the actors performing IN THE AISLES!!! Like, where else does that happen?!! Cuz I certainly don't know. Not only that, but this venue is so intimate with no bad seat in the house. Seriously!!! I'm constantly amazed at each production, how they curate the stage and change scenery...the costumes and of course, the incredible talent!! I walk away astounded every time. And from that last statement you can tell, I've attended many shows at Music Circus. I've always loved the circus in general, but what made me fall in love with Music Circus was my very first experience almost a decade ago with the show 'Beauty and the Beast'! OMG, I couldn't believe what I saw, especially the costumes!! Being a Disney fan, this has always remained a core Music Circus memory for me, kinda like "You never forget your first"! (Am I right?!? LOL) After that, I attended a show here & there. But in recent years, I've tried to make it a point to attend at least one show a season, feeling fortunate enough in these last 2-3 years to be able to attend more than 1 show in a season. Mostly with the 'help' of a coworker treating me to a show because SHE is a season ticket member and donor! Nice perks come with that, including special VIP seating area pre-show & during intermission serving complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and has several comfy couch outdoor patio seating to lounge in. They also have a private bathroom which might be the biggest perk! lol Last year's lineup (Summer 2024) I could've went to EVERY SINGLE SHOW of the entire season, again if I could afford such things. But THIS year, 2025, I was absolutely THRILLED to see TWO of my all time favorite movie/films come to the stage ("West Side Story" & "White Christmas"), along with the exciting news of a longer season that had shows going into winter!!! Typically in all the years past, Music Circus only occurred during the summer months. In fact, waaaaay back in the day, before my time of attending shows, this venue was really like a circus tent! My oldest sister & dad have told stories of 'the days of old' and when there was NO A/C during those times. And in SacTown summers, that could/would make for some VERY hot shows that were sometime unbearable. Lucky for me, I only started coming after they remodeled to what the theatre is today (yay for A/C!!). Anyways, when I bought my show tickets early in the year, I asked the reason for the pleasant surprise of the longer season. I was told that in the past, the local Sacramento Theater Company would use the venue during 'the off-season', but that they ended up shutting down after never really recovering from COVID. While that was sad news to hear of, I was glad to see MC would have more shows 'all year long' instead. Makes sense to utilize the venue and not have it going unused and idle. That's just not wise and bad business! So, with that, I hope these longer seasons will become a permanent thing and allow more experiences to enjoy!!! For anyone who enjoys theatre, Music Circus is EXACTLY where to go. I've even started inviting friends who don't typically do theatre to come and experience the magic of this unique venue. They never really are disappointed and I don't see how I ever could be either. If you've not been, what are you waiting for? Season schedules typically come out a couple times a year, but just sign up for their emails and you'll never miss it when they come out. What are you waiting for??? GO!!! And maybe I'll see you at a show sometime soon! You can thank me then. *wink, wink*

I enjoyed a wonderful night with the first run of White Christmas at the Broadway at Music Circus…read more What a great cast and performance, and the music (singing) was beautiful. It's a great play, to set off the holiday season. I was surprised to find the only actual Christmas song is White Christmas, because the play is about two servicemen, Army buddies, who develop a song and dance act during World War II, to entertain their battle-weary fellow GI's, and the find success as a top-billed professional duo. It's a really cute play, and my absolute favorite character was little Susan Wavery, the General's granddaughter, who was not even the focus of the play. I loved her, and wanted to see more of her. No photos of the play allowed, of course. There was a Photo Booth inside the gates, before entering the building, with complimentary photos staff took from your own cell phones. There were concessions inside, for popcorn, candy and drinks.

This time we saw Father Mother Sister Brother. 3 stories about family dynamics. It was a slow movie with great acting according to my husband, but no action. I'm more of an action kind of girl. My husband liked the movie so much that we went home and the next week he looked up other movies by the director and found one. He was thrilled and really enjoyed that one too. The seats could be more comfortable. It's an old theater with old seating so you can imagine that they are only so comfortable for so long and then your butt gets tired of sitting on them and then you get the wiggles. Parking is great. They share a private lot with the Tower Cafe. Movie times are ok. It's tough to get the right movie time so you can plan dinner at the Tower Cafe while they are still open and not get out of work till 5pm. This movie time was at 4:15 or so and we had to get our of work early to catch the movie. Our bosses were nice and they let us out early this time, but it's a challenge.

There are no nosebleed seats like at some of the parks. Today we sat in section 102 row 22 seats 12 and 13. When we first arrived sun was right in our eyes, but it went down pretty quickly and it went from 81 down to 67 degrees. When you enter in you wish you wearing shorts and by the 4th inning you're glad you brought a jacket. We could feel the wind on our faces at times. The seats we had were great. I did move over a seat due to someone was sitting directly in front of me and it was hard to see. That is the only down side of the area, you are looking left and someone could block your view. We did not partake in any of the concessions, but boy did I want to. Everyone looked so good, but we had dinner right before the game so I couldn't justify getting more food. I saw a lot of people with crunchy chicken tenders and crispy fries. I could hear the crispness of the fries from the guy sitting next to me. One party of 13 all got hotdogs. I could tell as they were sitting 2 rows in front of us. The four kids got dipping dots. The adults also consumed pretzels with cheese sauce, garlic fires, and a pizza. They also brought cuties and boxed drinks for the kids. Sutter Health Park really go there money's worth out of that party. I was temped to the Cotten candy as I'm a big fan, but I was afraid it was too squished and loss of airiness due to it was all shoved into a bag. I'm a total fan of fresh cotton candy. They allow you to bring in a reasonable amount of Sun Flower seeds and Peanuts. I'm going to bring some next time. I just get the muchies at the games even if I just had dinner. All that eating around me and especially the garlic fries get my appetite going. My husband didn't even get a beer which I was really surprised at. He did indulge in a glass of wine when we got home and I solved my salty craving by having some Cheeze-its. We have tickets for 3 more games this season. By the end of the season we will have gone to 2 RiverCats games and 2 A's Games and 2 Giant's games in SF. For us that's a lot of baseball. We have the Caps, t-shirts, and jerseys so we are all set with the gear. I have numerous Giants Jerseys and I love wearing them. Though I do find them hot in the summer time.

Sutter Health is a nice minor league ballpark. But as a major league venue for which we paid major…read moreleague prices it was ...lacking. Background Attended a May weekday night game, Las Oaklamento vs. the Cards. Sat on first base side, I'd say the lower deck but Sutter Health has only one. St. Louis prevailed 6-4, fitting because their fans were far louder than those of the home team. Supposedly a nearly full house of 11,000 attended although there were a lot of empty seats. Stadium I mean, it's a AAA field, so you get what you get. Fans do sit close to the action and the weather is nice once the sun goes down and takes the heat with it (first base is the sun side, but not a problem after the first inning or two). There's a single scoreboard in right field, adequate. Other than that, amenities are quaint (limited) and intimate (limited). Food Basic ballpark fare available. One Yelp reviewer calls it "Aramark's finest" which makes me laugh. Hot dog was OK, just OK. What's Unusual Pretty much everything about seeing a regular season major league game in a minor league park. My wife first suggested we not go to a game here, but not sure when, if ever, we'll get around to seeing the team once it moves to Vegas. Then she said that I shouldn't do a review of Sutter. But look, the John Fisher Debacle* was not forced to Sacramento due to a natural disaster or other unforeseen concerns, this relocation was entirely self-inflicted. Summary Sacramento is a beautiful city, especially the areas surrounding the river, and the people we met were very welcoming. We look forward to seeing a Kings game there someday, the art museum, more of the old town. * Courtesy of another Yelp reviewer. I'd opine further on the state of the A's franchise but this is not the place.

Besides these two things, I think the California State Fair has much improved in the last two decades and has plenty to offer for different tastes and preferences. Rabbits, alpacas, llamas, birds, cattle dogs, guinea pigs, goats, horses, pigs, and sheep can be found in the Tractor Supply Co. Big Barn. Obviously most of my attention went to the adorable bunnies! In addition to this, there's a petting zoo outside for guests to interact with the animals inside their pen (for a fee) and pony and camel rides on site (for a fee). The fair also offered sky rides on gondolas over the Sky River, and plenty of exhibits and entertainment for festivalgoers. I enjoyed checking out the Insect Pavilion at The Farm where I got to view and read about the greenbottle blue tarantula, thorny devil stick insect, and painted lady butterflies, cooking demonstrations galore and free tastings (tea sampling, honey sampling, olive oil sampling), the Superhero Exhibit (which looked fun for kids), the beautiful California Flowers on display, the animal sculptures at the California Forest Center, and the All-Alaskan Racing Pigs, classic entertainment at the fair not to be missed. The Drumheads were awesome! (separate review on this). The Sea Lion Splash was new to me and quite adorable (separate review on this). Master hypnotist, Tina Marie, did her thing at the PG&E Center Stage with a massive seating and viewing area in the middle of the Expo Center, I've seen her show too many times to count, at different locations, but she does the biggest show at this particular fair. At the Exposition Center, eight expo halls each featured a unique experience for visitors. I explored several that stood out to me, including a "Candy Maze" with some sweet photo ops, "It's a Wild Wild World Adventure" (Conservation Ambassadors' Wild Things) with several species of wildlife on display like black and white ruffed lemurs, kookaburras named Chuckles and Giggles (their bird calls sound like human laughter), capybara, red kangaroo, african crested porcupines, and reindeer, "POPnology" with displays highlighting pop culture's impact on technology, and the "Rustic Charm Marketplace" selling antique signs, furniture, and more. It wouldn't be a fair without carnival rides and games, great for kids. But I'm more amused by the various entertainers roaming the fairgrounds on stilts and community stage performers throughout, with an endless schedule and diverse lineup of live music by numerous bands. I enjoyed the sounds of Dylan Vroom playing tunes on the acoustic guitar, Michael Country Walker rockin songs like Tennessee Whiskey, and Jay Rin (part of a father/daughter duo) performing hits like Cups (When I'm Gone) and Come Together by the Beatles with her guitar and vocals, as well as the Silver City string band with its classic bluegrass and country music. The food court had a great setup, a stage on one end, a ton of shaded seating, and endless food stands lining both sides as well as the outside of the food court. No shortage of fair food could be found throughout the venue actually, lots of options to choose from. I had a pastrami sub from Grinders Sandwiches and of course a chocolate and strawberry funnel cake from one of many funnel cake vendors (they had at least 5 different stands selling these yummy deep fried sweet treats!).

We came expecting nothing and ended up having an incredible experience with beautiful decorations well suited for a sweet, memorable Christmas train experience. Online reservations were simple, easy to obtain, and a lot more affordable compared to the exorbant Polar Express tickets. We're extremely happy that we chose this over Sacramento's Polar Express. It's obvious that their staff spent a lot of time putting work into the trains inner and outter decor - beautiful and creative! Parents and adults FYI - on your way to your reserved train car, there's a small bar after boarding the train. It's very important to load up on your magic drinks before heading to your seat. (Drinks.. not drink! But drink responsibly, of course.) Parking isn't far and although limited, it shouldn't be a problem with reservations handled appropriately. We sang a few Christmas songs with the elves, threw snowballs at the grinch (best part, IMO), met Santa, and had a little fun at Santa's (little) village after the ride. Every sip of their hot cocoa (included with your tickets) was warming and delicious, perfect for cold weather. Couple of cookies came along with it, perfect for our kids to snack on. Overall, this was an incredible experience for our kids! Service was fantastic, ambiance was very jolly and felt like home, staff members are very friendly, and the experience is fantastic for all occasions - family, friends, and dates! The memories are ever lasting and hopefully it becomes a core memory that lasts a lifetime. Highly recommended to experience, at least once, for your little loved ones. We'll be back next year!
