At this point in my life I've seen a lot of enormous European churches...this one ranks in the bottom quartile. The exterior isn't anything shocking, and the interior isn't rich and fancy like the the others I've seen. There are some nice stained glass windows, and the wooden roof is still holding up. It a small town that probably doesn't have a lot of money to support major renovations. But the staff is friendly, and a kind older Dutch gentleman gave us a big welcome spent a few minutes giving us the history of this church...he did his best with his limited English, but was very enthusiastic in talking with us apathetic Americans. I donated a couple €, and used the WC as this is the only public WC in Edam. Otherwise its free and worth a brief peek if you're in the area. read more
