If you look up 'integrity' in the dictionary, the lady who was managing this place during our Nov…read more 2017 visit won't be anywhere in the picture.  My two stars here are for the view and the likelihood that I caught this little mom and pop business on a bad day. And then there's that whole 'integrity' thing... Based on the excellent Yelp reviews of this joint, my wife and I made it our first (lunch) stop during a four-day visit to the island. Like so many other structures here, it's an open air concrete building flimsy plastic chairs and sticky vinyl tablecloths. (And I loved it!) It sits right off the street with a decent view of the water on the island's east side. Wonderful atmosphere! Our food was lackluster. I ordered the whole fried fish. While it came out looking beautiful, it was very dry and overcooked. In other words, it took and fork and a knife to separate the jerky-like meat from the tiny bones ... and most of the time it was near impossible. As a cook, I know this is because said fish was pulled from the freezer and rinsed until it was almost thawed. Then, it was over-fried. Plain and simple.  My wife's coconut shrimp was just OK. It was overcooked as well (see the photo), but shrimp is more forgiving than it's finned brethren of the sea. Sides were OK. Not bad, but nothing special. And then it came time to pay in U.S. Dollars (our mistake). "The exchange rate on the island is 16 Pesos," the lady told me.  "Ma'am, there's no such thing as an island exchange rate. Banco de Mexico sets that." "No," she argued "the island's exchange rate is 16 Pesos!" With that, we knew she was going to stick with her lie, so we paid her the few extra dollars and went about our way. I sincerely hope that this was a one-time falsehood on her part, but I get the feeling it wasn't. Live and learn, I suppose. But I don't see myself ever returning to this place, no matter the currency. Feel free to give this place a try, but be smarter than we were: bring Pesos. Because the lady operating this place just isn't honest.

Not many Yelp reviews for this restaurant, but it has a great reputation. Came here with a lady…read morewho told me this is the best place on Isla for "Pescado Frito Entero", see photo. Located right on the main drag, on the beach side. You can choose to sit in the main section of the restaurant, or, with your feet in the sand as we did. Didn't get a photo of it, but our waitress brought out two different types of fish, both gutted and cleaned, but still uncooked. Pick the type of fish you want, the size and how you want it cooked. She chose what I believe was a snapper, fried whole, I had the Camarones a la Diabla. Both were great, have to say though, the Camarones, were very much on the Diabla end of the scale, 8+ on the heat meter! Server was friendly and somewhat attentive, understand though because we came in fairly late and they had to wait to close until we finished. Hopefully the tip made up for her wait. Thought the price was fair, both dishes, chips, pico, guacamole, torts and 4 beers, $26.25 US. Would return, and would recommend to anyone looking for good seafood.

It's a small, intimate spot so I'd definitely recommend booking ahead. We weren't very hungry, so my husband and I shared a few items: the homemade chips with guacamole and the lobster bites. One cool feature is that they let you choose how much lobster you want. Every dish was seasoned to perfection and absolutely delicious. For dessert, we shared both the flan and the brownie. The flan was creamy and rich, but the brownie was a bit burnt. Still, it was tasty enough that we didn't leave a bite behind. Overall, a great dining experience. We'll definitely return the next time we're on the island

The food and the drinks were so good! I had the skirt steak and it was SO GOOD! The flavors were good, the medium rare-ness was good, the sides were good, the drinks were unique! The only thing is the servers were nice but rarely came to check on us, and we had to flag them down for the bill. It was also a bit hard to hear with the music loud by the table. Otherwise, fantastic!

Mmmm, Dopi's. I love…read moreDopi's. When we first got settled onto the island, we jumped on Yelp to find some lunch. Dopi's came up on the list - so we started the trek. The pin was wrong but two blocks, so I updated the location on Yelp. In any case, once we got there, we ordered some quesadillas, tacos, and guacamole. Everything was on point. The flavor of the meat -- awesome. The cheese? Well, the person that took our order and, oh by the way, was the same person that cooked our food -- he told us that they make their own cheese. The cheese was sooooooo good. Seriously -- that quesadilla was a symphony in a tortilla. We have been back several times since the first visit and will try to go back more times before we leave. If you're on the island and want some good grub, go here!

So Fresh. So when we went back last night we wondered if we had oversold the memory in our own minds. Nope, the food is was AMAZING. Lobster quesadilla still as we remembered and Mango Mahi Mahi was incredible. We've eaten at a few places on that street and Dopi's dinner has been our favorite in 2017 and again now in 2019. Best restaurant in Isla Mujeres!
