There's not much else there that's walk-off-the-street commercial. The decor goes a bit overboard but not too much so. It still has a certain appeal. The interesting part to me is that they call themselves the Kentucky Saloon and Steakhouse, but it appeared from the environs and the menu they were going for more of a Southwest or Old West theme. But those are details. That does not take away from the fact that the atmosphere was pleasant and my experience was quite nice. It starts with the personnel and the wait staff working at the time of my visit were terrific. They were friendly and attentive. I was seated right away and there were no gaps in service. The menu featured some interesting American-style choices, with steak options being the most prominent. I started with the pumpkin soup which was rich and hearty. Bread came with this to make it the perfect opener. I generally go away from red meat most of the time and they did have a few chicken and fish items. I chose the Dragon Fire Chicken. It was served with a generous covering of barbecue sauce on a small bed of beans. Accompanied by vegetables and a baked potato, it was a very filling meal. The Malbec provided a nice complement and the finishing coffee was reasonably good. The prices were expensive but that's more to do with the fact that it was Switzerland. My final bill with a small (10%) tip was 62 CHF (included starter, main, 330-mL water, 1-dL wine and coffee). Given the fact that I find Swiss restaurants to be nearly twice as expensive as comparable US restaurants, the cost was about right in my estimation. I was generally pleased with my visit to this interesting establishment. Given the fact that it's within walking distance of my preferred hotel when I'm in Basel, I'm likely to try it again.

I was recommended to visit this restaurant for traditional Swiss cuisine by a few locals. My friend…read moreand I came here for lunch. The place is located in the heart of Basel, right on one of the main promenades, so it was quite busy that day, mostly with tourists. The restaurant has a big indoor area, plus outdoor seating. We decided to sit inside to enjoy its classic Swiss design and cozy vibe. You can sense the historic charm in the atmosphere, but everything inside was still well maintained and spotlessly clean. Our waiter was very nice and helpful - he gave us tips about Swiss food and recommended a couple of dishes from the menu. The menu, by the way, wasn't very big, and it focused on traditional Swiss classics. We decided to share two dishes: Wienerschnitzel and Cheese Fondue (Käsefondue). The food came out quickly, within about 15 minutes. The pork schnitzel was flavorful and tender, with a perfectly enjoyable texture. We chose French fries as the side, and they were cooked really well. But the star of our lunch was definitely the Cheese Fondue - absolutely delicious! The cheese they used was incredibly rich and flavorful, and the fresh bread served with it was also tasty. Dipping the bread into the melted cheese made it a truly delightful experience. Both dishes were generous in size and more than enough for two people. The only negative about this restaurant is the prices, which are extremely high. The Cheese Fondue cost 38 CHF (about $48) PER PERSON, and the Wienerschnitzel was 40 CHF (about $50). Even though the food was excellent, I found these prices far too steep. The soft drinks we ordered were also expensive - 6 CHF ($8) for a cup of black tea or a Diet Coke. I'm from Miami, where restaurants are pricey too, but not this expensive, so even I was shocked when we got the final bill. Finalizing my review, I can say that I loved every part of my experience at the restaurant except the prices. It's definitely not a place I could afford to eat at every day (like I do in many restaurants in Miami, since I don't cook), but I still recommend checking this restaurant at least once for the experience - to try truly delicious Swiss food. Trust me and order the Cheese Fondue for sure!

They really do a great job at pounding it thin, egg wash, flour batter and lots of butter. You can literally smell butter as you enter the restaurant and on your clothes as you leave Service top notch. Make reservations as this place always packed.

Most times I buy a sweetie to go with my coffee, sometimes I have my own chocolate or sweetie to enjoy with my coffee. This particular day Today I was sitting outside drinking my cappucino with a friend and enjoying 1/2 of a macaroon with my friend that I had just purchased around the corner and I was confronted by our waitress who said I couldn't eat that here. I was very shocked as I had did this numerous times in the last 6 yrs. I understand they have a few sweeties to sell as well but it wasn't like I was eating a sandwich or a croissant. When I left I went to tell the blonde witch behind the counter that I have been a client for 6 yrs. and have referred many clients there but I would never come back. As is normal in Switzerland she said " good goodbye, bye bye" as I was talking to her. As is normal in der Schweiz there is non existent customer service. She could have said, "we are sorry this is our policy and sorry to inconvenience you etc.." I can respect this. But to tell me "good, goodbye, bye bye" like I am not needed there was really way too far!! I have lived here 7 yrs. in Basel as an American they dont give a crap what your experience is like. Poor taste from poorly mannered people. And they want a pay raise in this country. To make 4000 chf a month as a minimum salary for untrained & unkind and ugly mannered people.
