This was such a lucky find! My family and I were visiting Calabria to see the towns where my mom's ancestors came from. These areas feel very rural and mountainous compared to what were used to, and Griglieria Vallefiore was large and bustling compared to everything else we passed.
We went in and found that the staff didn't speak much English, which did not surprise nor disappoint us. We used our phrase book and asked the questions we could, and ended up with one of the best meals ever! Five of us split the vegetarian antipasto platter and it was plenty of food and delicious (a bargain for the price!). The cheeses were amazing and varied and they seemed to make everything- meats and cheeses- in house. Four of us for variations on porcini mushrooms and pasta and we've never tasted such fresh and delicious mushrooms and pasta! The fifth member of our party got a hamburger, which we all tried (well, except for one vegan family member) and agreed was amazing and fresh.
This was such a good experience for us, trying to interact with locals and enjoying their cuisine. I would highly recommend this place for anyone passing by! read more
