I received a response from Justin within minutes of requesting a quote on Yelp. He was able to come out, give us an estimate, and get the work scheduled relatively easily. However, the basement was not finished, but had rough-in plumbing installed. We were looking for someone to finish the basement (4 rooms total), including adding an additional bedroom with closet and full bathroom. This included all electrical, plumbing, framing, drywall, door installation, flooring, trim, and painting. Mike was quick to respond to my original inquiry, come check out the space, and provide a quote. He was timely, friendly, and easy to collaborate with. We changed our mind a few times on final design - we appreciate how patient he was with us while we narrowed in on the final plan. The final quote was very detailed and he provided helpful information on the areas for potential cost increase (given that the home is old and there could have been unexpected things identified after work begun). This helped us set our expectations for the project. During the project, he kept us up to date on progress or concerns and kept the area very clean (ensuring very little debris made its way outside the basement into our home). He managed all of the subcontractors (electric, plumbing, carpet, etc) so we didn't need to worry about a thing. Made it super easy by having one point of contact! His work speaks for itself. There were a lot of difficult aspects of the basement to figure out (i.e. uneven walls and ceilings, tricky vents or pipes along the ceiling, water/electrical shutoffs needing to be accessible, etc), but he managed to turn the space into exactly what we were looking for. The attention to detail makes all the difference! In the end, the project took about two months (including carpet installation) and final cost was in line with the estimate. He gave us a quote and we agreed. Brett told us it would take 2 days. Brett was at our house two days. He saw my wife on day 1 and saw me on day 2. He commented that things were going well and he would be done at the end of day 2 as originally stated/quoted. Brett never stated there was an issue with supplies or time. Two days later via email, Brett lets me know that he will be charging us $400 more for the job because of the extra supplies he had to buy. Brett, said he was being "gracious" and not charging us for the extra man hours he put in on the project, even though we were originally quoted 2 days and the project took two days. Him not being upfront and communicating when he was onsite, as his website says (he has a new name Haus Craft, formerly Fairly Handy, and you can't find any reviews online of Haus Craft), was disappointing.

Justin Gardner is very unreliable and scammed me out of over $10,000. Two years ago I hired him to…read morebuild me a nice deck and he assured me that he knew exactly how to do that. He showed me pictures of decks he built, and after seeing how he did mine, I'm sure they were not decks that he built himself. upon further investigation, after I noticed, my deck was sinking in the middle and lifting up on the perimeter, and pulling up all the railings and posts, I discovered that there were no footings under the deck at all. My 30 foot deck is sitting on top of two by tens and nothing is supporting those two by tens. He has not responded to my comments or pictures and I will be calling an attorney next week and also letting the IRS know that this guy is most likely scamming them as well as his clients. Justin, you are the worst person I have ever done business with in my entire life. I can see why you are no longer in business and I fear for everyone that you're going to rip them off in some other shape or form.
