Not bad for a veggie burger in Lyon!…read more My husband and I stopped here for lunch as we were craving burgers. He ordered one of the beef burgers and said it was okay. I had the Patulacci, (veggie version, obviously,) which was a soy patty with grilled eggplant and zucchini, red pesto, mozzarella, and arugula. It was tasty and fresh, though nothing really special. The bun was quite good though, obviously not just a grocery store bun. We shared an order of large fries, which was actually really small. There weren't really enough to share (especially not with a toddler munching on them also.) They were also a bit on the soggy side. For a veggie burger, a king size beef burger, and one order of large fries, we paid 22€.

This is a five star and a two star restaurant all at once…read more On North African food - total five stars all the way. Don't miss this establishment if you are anywhere near Charpennes. They also do globalized fast food like burgers, chicken strips and tacos. That is where the two stars fits in. Absolutely positively avoid the fast food globalized menu. But if you are looking for doner kebabs, This is the place you TOTALLY want to go to. Don't even think about going anywhere else. * * * Villeurbanne has a very large North African community. There are fine Moroccan, Algerian and Lebanese restaurants all up and down the street, along with utterly superb halal butchers - and a few very fine European-style French restaurants with excellent North African owner-chefs. Villeurbanne has good eating. There are many fast food doner kebab places. However, if you look at the doner kebab places, Most have anywhere from zero customers to two or three customers. Topkapi is always packed. It has a ton of customers day and night - any time that the restaurant is open. Nearly all the customers are North Africans. People who know their North African food clearly give Topkapi a big thumbs up. * * * Kebabs or "gyros" as Americans call it are much better in France generically. In France, all the doner kebab places serve kebabs that are 100 percent veal. In America we use beef. PLUS French veal is absolutely positively superlative. American veal is awful. Doner Kebab places all make their own kebabs in house. So the quality of the meat itself is a huge part of the story. * * * So ANY French doner kebab place will have a fundamentally better kebab than will the same establishment in the United States. Now we add what Topkapi does that puts their sandwiches over the top. a) They put an amazing char on their veal kebabs. b) The kebabs are served with generous quantities of caramelized onions. The effect of a) plus b) is to give you a dish that tastes remarkably like very very good bacon. No Moslem establishment would serve bacon because pork is absolutely forbidden. But the light taste of veal rather than beef pushes their kebabs towards the taste of the "other white meat". The charring and the spicing gives you the savory quality of American bacon. In fact, the taste is much much better than American bacon because it is not greasy and fatty the way American bacon is. You also don't get salt masquerading as flavor. So the veal kebab gives you a "better" bacon. Much much much better. * * * Now add to this very thick very fine pita bread. Not the typing paper thin pita breads we get in the United States. Now char that bread the same way you charred the veal. * * * You have die and go to heaven stuff. * * * Topkapi serves thirteen sauce options with the kebabs. Avoid Western options (such as a nearly tasteless gruyere sauce.) DO go with North African options. They have a harissa that is absolutely positively outstanding. * * * Perfect kebabs. Perfect vegetables. Perfect pita. Perfect sauce. * * * If I lived in Villeurbanne, I would eat here once a week. Even as it is, I try to sneak in a meal from Topkapi whenever I can. A good doner kebab is a great thing.

Warm, cozy and happy after my meal at Yabio. Very happy to see an all organic burger restaurant…read morethat is convenient. The burgers are definitely on a more rare side in terms of doneness. Their french fries are quite lovely. This is a very popular restaurant among the locals. The location is very nice and their facility is clean and chic. Great casual spot to stop by for some good eats. They offer the option to have two parties instead of just one. No reservations required, available on some food ordering aps, and no toilet available.

The good: - the fries - small portions (maybe not such a bad thing!) and amazzzzing seasoning. We couldn't get enough. - the homemade lemonades. Yum. - the branding and decor. This place is tiny and hip. By 12:30, it was already packed. But... ...the burger was good, but we weren't blown away. It's certainly good quality, and the sauce is tasty, but my boyfriend left hungry (maybe because I forced him to share his tiny portion of fries?) ...the green salad is just greens and meager dressing. (To be fair, it is called a green salad. I don't know what I was expecting.) If you like a tasty burger but can never finish the whole thing, or if you always feel gross after gorging on too many fries, this place might be juuuuust right (bring Baby Bear and Goldilocks with you). En gros: Pas mal du tout, mais en cas de grosse faim, prenez deux burgers.

Let me tell you Yelpers a story about a girl from Texas who lives in Lyon. This girl moved here…read morefrom Austin, TX - a vegetarian's heaven - and was extremely disappointed by most food she was offered at restaurants. Her standards began to drop. She became concerned that fresh, flavorful, vegetarian food was something only to be found in her kitchen from here on out. But then she stumbled upon Big Fernand, completely by accident, and had an epiphany. A delicious, delicious, epiphany. At the bottom left of the front page of Big Fernand's menu, you will see an entry title "Le Lucien". It is advertised as the "burgetarian": a portobello mushroom, with Tomme cheese, sundried tomatoes, pickled onions, chives, and a cocktail sauce. It is served on a fresh-tasting bun with sesame seeds and actually comes with 2 portobello mushrooms for extra thickness. The sauce did not taste like what I consider "cocktail sauce" (that red stuff you dip shrimp in), but whatever it was was tasty. And there was so much cheese - between the two mushrooms (to hold them in place, I assume,) and more on top. Divine! The portobello mushroom "burger" was something I was definitely missing over here. I ordered the menu, (of course,) so I got fries and a drink - all for 13€. The drink I ordered was a Ginger Orange Bionade - a malt beverage (with no alcohol - just deliciousness.) And then there's the fries. SEASONED FRIES, Y'ALL. I didn't think I would ever taste seasoned fries again in my life. Wait, let me say it again. THEY HAVE SEASONED FRIES. That felt good. I devoured the perfectly crisp and flavored little potatoes, dipping some in the "bbq sauce" they gave me (which did not look anything like the bbq sauce I'm used to but tasted just like it somehow!) So five stars for an amazing vegetarian lunch experience, complete with the attention of the entire staff who were all very friendly and even wrote "Texas Forever" on my burger wrapper. You guys rock. I'll be back.
