I visited Dave's after work last night and got a great hair cut. I have thick, Mediteranian hair…read morewhich should be pretty easy to cut properly, but I got fed up with chain stores where sometimes you get a good cut, and sometimes not. He also didn't ask for my name/age/address/birthday etc to enter into a computer. Dave's is a classic barber shop that's apparently been in the family for two generation. It has all the classic barber shop stuff around, like straight razors, "unbreakable" combs, and bottles of bay rum that look like they actually get used. The walls are covered with eclectic... stuff. Old hunting decoys, fishing knives. Guy stuff. It looks kind of like a man cave, which is just fine by me. I had the opportunity to shoot the shit with Dave for a while. Turns out, they don't take plastic and I didn't have any cash or a check book on me. My wife dropped me off, so I had to wait for her to come back with some cash. She was in a store and didn't get my calls. Dave kept the place open for me (they close at 6:00 on weekdays) and we both waited for over a half hour, talking about sports, hunting, junk scavenging, you know, stuff you expect to talk to your barber about. I apologized for keeping him, but Dave was very welcoming and didn't want me to worry. (Almost) anyone can cut hair, but it's pretty clear that Dave wants repeat customers and is willing to work for it.

Even if it did need to be, I had already told him I was attending a wedding this weekend. He should've given me the choice to wait until after then to make such a severe change. Hairstyles are a part of a person's identity, and a guy puts a lot of trust in a barber to maintain it. He betrayed that trust. When I said as much, his casual "well sorry man" response did not feel genuine.

Worst experience I've ever had in a barber shop... My wife and I stopped in on our way out of town…read morebecause my normal barber shop was closed that day... The barber went on and on saying that my wife is the most beautiful woman he's ever seen (making both of us very uncomfortable), and he kept saying that she is way out of my league and how did I get a girl like that which just seemed mean and uncalled for.... He also kept low key putting me down during the cut making weird comments, lol and I didn't want to stand up for myself since he was cutting my hair and I didn't want him to purposely mess it up.... The haircut he gave me was pretty mediocre and not good..... I highly recommended avoiding this low vibe guy, check out The Barber Sharp north east, they are incredibly friendly and give top notch cuts every time....

I started coming here after I realized that I didn't want to patronize the businesses that don't support real people, find a barber that cares about their community, and wanted to support a small business run by good people. They certainly check all the boxes, and are still affordable. Thanks for the great business.

I also like to get cuts whenever I travel and being a simple man, ya really can't goof it up (exception! Mexico City). So anyway, Teaj is who I work with and she always gives me a great cut. LJ, who is also working there, seems to have a steady clientele and every time I've gone, it's an easy in-and-out. Cash is king and but they also take cards. I also really like their online scheduling system. It makes it so easy. Plus it is a pooch friendly place (always ask first), as you can see, my boy Rudy was a little stressed as he had no idea what the hell was happening to me. But when all was said and done, he approved and so did I.

The end result is usually a bunch of lines in my head and I end up buzzing it. Worst haircut of my life. I went in on Sunday and booked with Freddy. I asked for 1/2 to 3/4 of an…read moreinch off the top. Freddy completely misheard/misunderstood me, and thought I said 3 to 4 inches. He didn't even bother to double-check or verify before hacking off hair. By the time I noticed, it was too late. My hair is now so short that I can't even style it anymore. Because the top was beyond repair, I tried to ask him to just square off the sides for a more fitting shape, but he couldn't even understand what I was saying. I ended up having to schedule an appointment with a different barber elsewhere to fix the shape. I was planning to re-perm my hair in a month, but now it's going to be 5-6 months before I'll have enough hair again. The absolute worst part was the customer service. When I went back to ask for a refund, Freddy had an attitude like it was my fault that he misheard my request. In fact, I wasn't even going to write this review originally, but the attitude was what set me off. Freddy, if you're reading this, you need to learn to double-check how much people want taken off the top. At other barbershops, they usually pull the hair up between the fingers to visually show the client and confirm how much length is coming off. I can't speak for the other barbers at this shop, but I would not recommend going to Freddy unless you want to risk getting a botched haircut because of a language barrier.
