After coming here for 4 years for their overpriced and deceptive services, I'm taking my business…read moreelsewhere from now on. Granted that I don't know much about cars, I initially trusted the highly rated google reviews on this place since they seem to be run by honest people who are trustworthy. I really should've trusted my guts after my car's AC suddenly stopped working after taking it in for a yearly inspection here a couple of years ago, but I kept coming back in hopes that it was just a one-time thing (when I took the car back to have them take a look at it after that incident, they claimed the issue was not reproducible that there's nothing wrong with it. As if by magic, my AC suddenly worked after I picked up my car from them). This year, I dropped my car off with them for the yearly inspection and oil change (each of those services cost at least $100 btw). I was pretty busy at work when they texted me several images of my car tire. When asked if it needed a change, I was told it's highly recommended but not needed to pass the inspection. On the other hand, since I just replaced my car battery, I needed to drive my car in order to generate sufficient emissions data for the inspection. When I called them to ask about the tire issue on the phone, I was also told that the tires would only last around 25 more miles before they gave out. Since I don't wanna risk having a flat/blown out tires, I asked them to give me the quote for the cost of the tires. On the phone, they mentioned a set would be around $621. I thought it sounded a bit expensive, but after checking online, it seems like a reasonable range so I proceeded with it. They later sent me a text that all services (oil change + state inspection + 3 tires) would cost around $840. Mind you, whenever someone mentions a set of tires, one would assume they meant the entire set of 4 tires unless you're driving a tricycle. I didn't pay much attention to the part where they mentioned 3 tires since I thought it was a typo. Nope. I was fooled. They REALLY meant the change was only for a set of 3 tires. Since I picked up my car at the end of a workday, I didn't have much energy left for anything else than to just get home and rest. Granted that I've been going to this place for the past 4 years, I also thought that my loyalty to them would allow me to trust them with a high level of service. To hell with that expectation since none of the following were provided on the day I picked up the car: 1) the digital invoice (they link they sent on the day of service did NOT work), 2) the physical copy of the invoice, 3) the information on the tires' warranty, which they claimed verbally was only 6 months from the date of service or based on the tires' thread life, and 4) the safety inspection results. Before I picked up my car, I looked up Yokohama tire's website (the manufacturer of the kind I purchased), and it clearly states that they offer a warranty up to 65,000 mile and a 30-day trial satisfaction guarantee. After mentioning this to Ken's Auto on the call, they said that guarantee is only applicable if I were to 1) purchase 4 tires, and 2) submit the claim on my own on Yokohama's website. Granted that I last changed all 4 of my tires at Costco at the same time, I fail to understand why they'd only change only 3 of them ESPECIALLY if it would limit me from being able to get the manufacturer's warranty honored. Any automotive resources would also tell you the replacing either a set of 2 tires (front-wheel drive) or 4 tires (all wheel drive) simultaneously would be optimal to prevent uneven wear and tear and maintain balanced handling. This place has snake oil dripping down their teeth when they mentioned that the last tire didn't need to be replaced since it's still in good working condition and that I'm being charged fairly since I wouldn't be able to find a business that'd install my tires without charging for the labor costs (hello, Costco does this ALL the time). The part that pissed me off the most was how gaslighting they were about all the things they mentioned on the phone call and texts as follows: 1) they claimed they never told me my tires would only last 25 more miles, and 2) they claimed they DID inform me that I'd be charged for 3 tires by the 3 text images (despite the fact that they look like they're pictures of the same tire but from a slightly different angle) as well as on the phone (a complete lie). If you're looking for an honest and trustworthy car shop, this place isn't it. Keep looking elsewhere and save your money. Update: In response to Ken L.'s reply, I'd like to clarify that the estimates were provided AFTER the complaint call. The link to the invoice on the date of the service only says to "contact the shop to reshare the link". I was probably put on blast/speaker by the business during the complaint call rather than when the original conversation concerning the tires issue and pricing. So much for customer service...

Came here two separate times for service…read more For the first time, I just replaced my brakes and rotors and might have introduced air into my brake lines so instead of bleeding my brakes and changing the fluid, I decided I'd come here instead. The service advisor was Angelo. He made sure I got taken care of as quickly as possible and despite forgetting to bring in my wheel lock, he was able to get the tech to bleed my brakes. The tech also said my brakes are fine but Angelo got him to check it again and bleed it anyways to get rid of any air. My brakes felt instantly better. Unfortunately, the reservoir was completely overfilled when I checked it so I had to go buy a syringe to remove some of the fluid myself. I also saw some fluid near the brake booster so I had to monitor it for leaks for the next couple days. This wasn't exactly the experience I expected. The second time I came in, I spoke to Angelo about getting my tire/tire valve looked at due to a flat tire. It was an hour before closing and he wanted to help but couldn't since most of the techs went home. He told me to return in the AM and he would get me helped asap. I did so the next day and he got my tire looked at, got the valve replaced, and I was good to go. It was a pretty painless experience this time. Shout out to Angelo because I was really expecting poor service but he did the best he could for me. He always kept me in the loop for what was going on while my car was in the bay.

Latest Update: My Engine Diagnoses Report provided and texted to me by Pep boys was automatically deleted after I posted my first review here. Before I made appointment to meet the shop manager named Aaron, the receptionist and the Aaron said when I came back to see Aaron again, he would give me a transmission engine report which would include all the diagnosed transmission engine codes. After spending some time and efforts, I eventually could meet Aaron, the shop manager on Saturday March 7, 2006 about 2pm. When I first met him, he took the key of my car and left. After I waited for a while then I asked receptionist why Aaron did so. The receptionist said he wanted to take your car. I told receptionist, my car was not here. Then, receptionist came in and let Aaron know. When Aaron came out, I asked him, why he wanted to take my car. Aaron said, he needed to redo the engine diagnoses to have all the engine diagnosed codes. I told Aaron, my car was not here. I then asked for my last original engine diagnose report, Aaron said it was deleted. Other mechanics said, the diagnosed engine report without diagnosed codes was considered invalid. Without diagnosed codes, they would have no idea what wrong with the transmission in this case. I have been calling the Pep Boys customer service several times, they always refused to refund me money for doing nothing and charge me $118.xx

Took them a week to inspect my car after making n appointment and confirming they weren't backed up - and had to call to inquire them twice. I kept walking by the business and they were constantly parking my car in different spots/moving. When they finally called me (after I kept asking them about it) they claimed my car was completely run down and I would need to pay a few thousand in repairs or I needed to take it away. First, they almost lost my car keys. Then, they said my battery was dead which was untrue, as it was not old and ran fine after jumping it - I suspect they just ran it dead. They also tried to say I needed new breaks, needed tons of engine work, my AC was broken, there was massive underwork on the carriage needed, the list went on and on to pass state inspection - 90% wrong. Their response raised red flags as I often keep up with work on the vehicle as Subarus have a long life if looked after and a lot of these issues were never brought up before. Upon getting a second opinion elsewhere, two separate mechanics at other places confirmed that most of what was listed was completely inaccurate and was very confused by what All Tech Automotive was claiming on the report I was given. I would suggest you to be VERY careful going to this place for work or state inspections - I suspect he either massively upcharges, tries to get you to buy into extra work for the car, or the mechanics are just bad at their jobs. I was a young looking college student at the time so I think he thought I didn't know better. I get times are tough with inflation, and most of his clients are probably wealthier off than me with my older car due to the neighborhood he's located in, but I don't appreciate being lied to in such a severe manner when I'm trying to give a place business. Hopefully, this saves someone else tons of time and money, I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone posting this as the other reviews claimed he was such a decent guy.

Listen!! Let's be real. As a woman, if you (like me) know nothing about cars, getting car stuff…read moredone can feel like a crapshoot because it's 50/50 on if they're gonna rip you off. Never ever that at Schafer's! They're incredible. Everyone from front desk to the techs are patient, kind, and so willing to explain what's going on, lay out the options, and help w/ pricing when they can. I go to them for everything, inspections to major repairs, and the twice-a-year tire alignment (thanks, south Philly roads). A feature I really love: they send you a text after each appt with a link to a full diagnostic where each aspect of the vehicle is graded great, okay, and needs work, which is so helpful for planning for big expenses. Just another example of their transparent, customer-focused perspective.

Went in for a rough idle, which started after a high (but within spec) rev during downshift…read more Online research had indicated that it was likely a timing belt tooth slip at best, and at worst was valve or piston damage. I had been told on the phone by Schafer's that they had a diagnostic machine that could drill down to the exact cause of the error code. Not so. Their second level diagnostic, which would have cost over $200 except for a discount coupon I had received, did not diagnose the specific cause of the rough idle. They wanted to replace my entire EGR system and also fix a leaky valve cover, for a cost of over $2,000, just to start. They only gave all that a 50% chance of being the problem. The components in my EGR system are easy to test and do not require replacement if they are good. They listed a $241 charge for an EGR valve control solenoid, but my car's EGR valve is vacuum operated only, so I don't understand why that part was needed. The installation time was taken from "the book," and was hugely inflated over how much time is actually needed for this work, much of which I have done myself in the past. If a spark plug seal is bad, they should have been able to know which cylinder is misfiring from the diagnostic. When I asked for a pricing on a timing belt replacement, which they refused to do without the other work, their price was much, much higher than the estimate I received from a dealer. I previously had brake work done by Schafer's, which was unrelated to the current problem, and found their prices to be high for the work done, but lower than what Meinicke had wanted for the job. That led me to have confidence in Schafer's, but at this point I have lost that confidence.

Recently my car was hitting bumps really hard and I took the car in to get looked at. I told them that I think its the rear struts but they insisted it was the tires so I replaced all the tires at their recommendation. After replacing the tires I thought the car was fine for a while until I got on the highway and heard a loud humming sound. I took the car back in to get looked at and they tell me that the sound is coming from the tires wearing uneven. Now im getting angry because I just replaced all the tires. He tells me that I have to REPLACE THE STRUTS AND SHOCKS to resolve it. I assumed that the new tires woul be covered by them for misdiagnosing the car in the first place. He tells me no the tires are not covered and on top of that they want another 243.00 just to flip my DAMAGED TIRES to make an attempt at reucing the tire damage. UNBELIEVABLE!! So not only do i have to buy shocks and struts that i suspected was the issue in the first place I have to pay for them to try and reduce the tire damage on my new tires. Needless to say I wont be going back but I hope this review helps others. I see there is another review of them doing the same thing to someone else. Damaged their engine and didnt take responsibility. They wanted to bill the customer for more work.
