We did quite a bit of price comparison when planning our trip the the North Fork. This is a big factor when coming to this region with inflated Hamptons prices on both North and South Fork. We were happy to find Greenporter Hotel and loved it's retro 50s feel and generous outdoor space. Our kids enjoyed the pool and free breakfast with hot and cold items. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed and the staff went above and beyond. As for value-at $260 on a Monday-it was almost half the price of the other hotels in the area with no hidden "resort fees" or charge for parking. So do your homework and know the area before you go. We are happy we did and will be back! read more

We stayed at the Greenporter Hotel For the July 4th weekend 2025. The room was very clean, they are preparing for a renovation. Walking distance to everything in town. The restaurant was closed, but there are plenty of restaurants in town. The pool was enjoyable, staff always attentive with clean towels and cold water. Always a smile on everyone's face. We sat by the firepit nightly and enjoyed conversation with friends and other guests. read more

This place is not safe to stay. Someone broke into my friends' room a defecated in the room while we were at dinner. The staff was not helpful at all and the manager/owner could not be reached. They don't have extra cots so 3 of us had to share my king bed. They use metal keys not key cards. Do not stay here. read more

We recently stayed at the Greenporter Hotel. I cannot say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff were. We arrived before noon on a Tuesday, and the staff not only allowed us to enter our room before the 3:00 p.m. check-in, they upgraded our room when we mentioned it was our anniversary. The room was very clean and included a mini-fridge with free wi-fi. The heated pool and jacuzzi were great, and towels were on every lounge. They even had ice water with fruit available for guests. After we checked out, we could leave our car in their lot while we explored, and the manager let us know we could enjoy the pool if we wanted before heading home. I would certainly stay there again. We decided to stay here Valentine's weekend during the off season. We chose this place strictly on how close it was to Duckwalk vineyard. It was also walking distance to the town in Greenport. We liked that it included free parking, and free breakfast. We needed a space to rest for the night since we were doing a later dinner/wine tasting. The staff was friendly. The continental breakfast was good.However, the hotel was outdated. The bed and pillows were terrible. I had the worst sleep ever, so did my husband . The queen size bed seemed more like a full size bed. It's fair to say we will not be staying here again. read more

We stayed here for three nights as we had a wedding to attend at one of the wineries. The service was phenomenal, tiara and warner we are both so helpful and kind. The rooms were very clean. The bed was OK. The sheets were really comfy. The continental breakfast was lovely, they made fresh mini frittatas, and the yogurt parfait was phenomenal, some of the best Greek yogurt I've eaten. They even had fresh fig jam, from the fig tree that is right outside. The prices are high, but so is everything else in Greenport. We like that we were able to walk around town easily from the hotel motel. read more

Ijust spent the weekend at the Greenporter to attend my cousin's wedding. I have driven by the hotel so many times, but never looked closely. I was so pleasantly surprised!! The pool area is beautiful! Comfortable lounge chairs and service for food/drinks. I had a quick snack and drink at the bar. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. My room was spacious and very clean. The pillows and comforter were particularly comfortable. The location is perfect! So close to the heart of Greenport. I have stayed at the greenporter hotel many times. The staff is wonderful. They are professional, accommodating and really go all out to make your stay comfortable. They have a restaurant that serves a nice continental breakfast on Saturdays and Sunday from September into deep winter and during the summer months everyday. The rooms are exceptionally clean and there is always plenty of free coffee everyday, that you make in your room. It is also a very short walk to all the restaurants and local bars, a pharmacy, supermarket and a wine and liquor store. The location is super convenient! If you are ever in Greenport, check out the Greenport Hotel. You can't beat the price for the location and comfort. read more

Stayed here for a girls getaway for my birthday on 9/10/21. The room was tiny. Bed was a full, not a queen like advertised. Blankets were well used and dingy. Cot was not usable. Place needed an upgrade. And to boot, they have cockroaches. Yes. Cockroaches. When we called the front desk the manager promptly told me she needed to search our room with annoyance in her voice. When she came up she demanded to see the roach (we flushed it) and told us we are mistaken "in the country we don't have roaches". I grew up on Long Island. I am no tourist. One, we have roaches everywhere. Two, Greenport is not the country. Three, I know with 100% certainty what a roach looks like. She then told us at 10pm, two female who had been quietly drinking and relaxing, that it be best if we LEAVE. She then went downstairs and called us another hotel and told us to hurry and LEAVE because they close at 10. It was 9:50pm. She claimed "if I saw a roach I wouldn't want to stay here so I think it's best you LEAVE. ". Again. 2 females at 10 pm. Get out because we have roaches. And we are lying about it. The place was sub par at best and I would never recommend to anyone after the treatment we received. The manager needs a lesson on hospitality especially at almost $400 a night. read more

Meanwhile we had it on the day before and everyone had a great time and even commented how nice it was to have some music on. They have Roaches and Bugs! My husband and I booked 2 nights for my birthday in this hotel and we had to leave in the middle of the night because we found several bugs around the room and 2 in our bed ( Cockroach x 2). My husband went to the reception desk to report the issue and see what we can do about this, but the hotel doesn't have the night shift, so we didn't have other choice but to leave. We called the next day to explain what happened and the first answer was: "That's not true, we don't have bugs. You must have left your door open and maybe you brought them from the city. If you want to avoid bugs, leave the country." WHAT??? IS THIS REAL??? Then she said that she will go to check the room...What she thinks she'll find after 12h?? Then she gave us a call back accusing my husband of causing some kind of incident by the pool and that we are just complainers. She said that she checked on the camera...If she had done that, she would've seen us leaving out for dinner and that if that incident even happen it wasn't us. I am pretty sure that she made it all up, because it's hard to believe that a manager doesn't document an incident. The manager MUST KNOW: name, face and room number of that guest that has a problem and if they don't, they are just lame and unprofessional (they have only 30 rooms)! Instead, they've spent so much time in trashing me and my husband. They were very thorough on that! The manager will trash on me now again, I am positive, but I would like if he/she can also share if they ever offered a solution for this problem and what was it. We've never been so humiliated and disrespected in our lives! I am still in shock! My husband wanted to surprise me for my birthday and it turned out to be a nightmare!!! read more

I spent three nights at the Greenporter last week - my friend and I wanted a getaway to the North Fork without needing to rent a car, and the Greenporter did not disappoint. It's a 5 min walk from the train and super close to all the restaurants and shops in Greenport. The staff was lovely - anytime we needed an extra towel or had a question they were friendly and immediately responsive. The room was clean with all essentials provided. There's a comfortable and chill pool in the middle of the hotel, and a complimentary breakfast was served everyday. Appreciated the precautions they were taking in common spaces due to COVID (I saw the manager literally scrubbing the edge of the pool after it closed for the night). Overall, thought this was a great value, especially for the North Fork in high season. Looking forward to returning next summer! read more

UPDATE: In response to your comment Deborah...we tried to book another visit and you never sent as an updated contract, though we requested one multiple times...when we finally got you on the phone, you told us you were going to raise your rate on us and our guests. We explained to you at length that we and our guests, by the way, some of which are military veterans, can't pay an increased rate and would like the same rate or our deposit back and you opted to not give us our money back. We come here every year with the family because it's super clean, the kids love the pool and you can walk everywhere. We also love it because all the rooms open to the out doors so it's nice to come and go without having to go through a lobby if you don't want to. I may be shooting myself in the foot but it's the last affordable nice hotel in the entire North Fork/Hamptons region. There aren't many family run businesses out east anymore but I'am happy to see this family still here and thriving. I already booked my trip to return next summer! Love this place!!!! read more

It's a family owned beach motel. Nothing more nothing less. Decent rooms, decent pool ... great location if you want to be able to walk into town etc. Rooms are clean and comfortable but basic. The staff and ownership are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. This makes the stay better than a typical motel. But like most things in Greenport these days it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced for what it is. But not much you can do about that unfortunately. I've stayed here twice and would do it again based on price (relatively) and location to town. read more

Allow me to say that I hate the Greenporter. How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways: 1. I was going to the Northfork for a wedding and as I was marrying them, I wanted to print out a copy of the ceremony. Called the hotel to ask if they could do it. First they tell me to go to the library, and then they charge me $1 a page. Needless to say, I found somewhere else to print 2. As others have mentioned, this is a motel. That charges over $300 a night. So you expect some service/amenities. I had to sign 3 waivers, about room damage, use of the pool, and smoking. This is not a good start. 3. There's no iron/ironing board in the room, so they bring it to you. The ironing board is a midget one that goes on top of the desk, and it's super hard to iron on it. Not fun. 4. The hangers don't come off the rack. I expect this at the Super 8. Not here. You have any idea how hard it is to hang a dress shirt while not moving the hanger? 5. There is a policy that if you use a washcloth or towel to clean a spill, then you have to buy the washcloth. Seriously? The towel is .40 and I'm paying $250 a night? Overall, this place appears nice, but as the veneer wears off, it's apparent that this place is worse than a cheap motel. I'd rather stay there because then I would have chosen fewer services for the price. Avoid at all costs. read more

Rarely have stayed in a hotel that made me feel so...I dunno ... uncomfortable. Sure its Long Island in the summer so you are going to get fleeced. You deal with it or don't go. But seriously, it has to offend your sense of value to pay $260 a night for a room that is Quality Inn standard and would cost $70 elsewhere. Then you sign pages of waivers/contracts dictating what you can and cannot do when you arrive. Do they have that much trouble with unruly guests? The rooms have an attempt at spa-type upgrades in that Swedish modern style. We stayed earlier in the summer in Santa Barbara at the Inn at East Beach - similar idea - update an old motel with newer furnishings, paint etc and give it a nice spa feel. Worked unbelievably well at East Beach (and such a welcoming host). Greenporter falls well short. Swedish Modern not done well just feels cheap. The inside of the door had a coat of primer on it, but it wasn't covered with any other paint, like they forgot or something? What they didn't forget was the notice over the primer letting us know that we would have to pay if we soiled the sheets or towels. Fair enough, but again do they really have that many problems with soiled towels? At $260 a night I would not have thought so. Never seen that before. I was also accosted in the pool area by the reception guy who strode around the place with a headset on. He dashed into the pool area (which was pretty empty) to confirm, quote "That you are here." Wasn't sure what to say, standing there dripping wet, so I said yes, I am here. He needed my name and room number. Why? Whatever. I gave it to him and he called in it, then said to me "though I recognized you" and dashed off. Huh? Then when we went out for dinner he ran out the front and asked me if I was coming back later. Uh, yeah. I paid $260 clams for the room so I guess I'll be back. Although there was no mention of this in their contract, on their website, in the in-room folder or anywhere else that I saw, they close the pool on Sunday until 10am for Yoga. I have a little boy who loves to swim (the reason we chose this hotel), so we were ready to go at 9am (yes the pool doesn't open normally until 9am - and it closes in mid-summer at 7pm!) . We came out to see the sign saying it was closed. For the 1 person and 1 instructor doing yoga. Huh? My wife likes Yoga but obviously we weren't in the club. I must say thanks to the lady at the front desk and the lady yoga instructor who did allow us (and the 6 or 8 people sitting outside the pool area waiting) to enter earlier after we went and asked. The restaurant attached is quite decent if a little pricey, but again, just a little odd. We went in on the night we arrived, asked for a table and were asked if we had a reservation. No we said. The guy says "oh" they looks very seriously at his book and mulls this news over for way longer than necessary. Its 8pm and there are two table occupied. Huh? How about, come in and welcome! Our server however was very nice and pleasant to chat to. Finally when I asked our drinks server what local wine he could recommend he made some suggestions. I liked the sound of one so I just said "Oh, is that good?" and he said, "I don't know, I haven't had it." Huh? Turns out he was old enough to serve wine but not old enough to drink it. I'm not asking for a sommelier, but perhaps someone who has tasted the plonk would be handy? The kid did go and ask and the Sav Blanc we got was good in the end. This place is clean and functional and the people (mostly) nice enough, so no grips there. But for 260 bucks a night I'd just like to feel, I dunno. Welcome? read more

We stayed here for 3 weekdays in July. I kind of booked last minute only two weeks in advance and was happy to find the hotel with occupancy available. I picked this one over the others that were available because of the pool and price. We really enjoyed the pool, it was a nice size and there were lounge chairs and umbrellas surrounding the pool. The pool is very convenient to the hotel rooms being right in the center of the hotel. Look, the hotel can use a little TLC. The rooms are a nice size but not generously or Tastefully styled but most importantly the hotel is in a great location. There is a mini mart across the street and of course if you walk a couple of short blocks you are in the center of town. Seems like they're a little strict with their signs at the front desk ..they warn they will charge you for checking in early and checking out late.. or using the pool after hours .. maybe people take advantage. I do think the sign should articulate their rules a little bit nicer. I definitely would stay here again I didn't see any bugs other than one little mosquito on the wall which has to be expected in Long Island. I mention it because some other reviewer complained about bugs. I really like that the room had a bathtub and the shower had excellent water pressure. Weirdest place ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We just got back from a weekend stay at the Greenporter for my friend's wedding and the place was so odd. This does not resemble ANY day spa you've ever seen and the thought of letting the staff of this motel touch my face for a facial or rub my back for a massage gives me the heebie-jeebies. Seriously. Not to mention that the furniture in our "Queen Suite" was straight out of Ikea. I think I had that drawer set Freshman year of college. The mattress was just resting on the floor; no bed frame or anything. AND, they claimed to be a "pet friendly" hotel when really they just charged us $70 to let our pet sleep on the gross, orange, linoleum floor. The hotel is centrally located but there must be some better options. This place was just so creepy. I can't go back there. read more

In the past decade, the North Fork has become a bigger destination for wine lovers and for anyone who wants to escape the city without going too far, "roughing it" upstate or enduring the craziness of the Hamptons scene. Regardless of what California-centric wine snobs might say, Pindar, Bedell Cellars and others are producing some increasingly good reds and the whites have been excellent for a long time. I try to get out to Greenport at least once a year, usually, in the Fall. In addition to the wine, there are cool farmstands and fun outdoorsy options (especially in pumpkin pie season). If you're going to stay near the Long Island Wine country, Greenport is by far the best town (good food, cute shops, excellent art galleries, stuff for kids to do if you have them). And if you're going to stay in Greenport, The Greenporter is (to my mind) the best option. There are a few other places, but I prefer the simplicity of the hotel's modernist design to some kind of nasty carpeted motel-type place (or, God forbid, a bed and breakfast) and I like having an awesome restaurant IN the hotel (the owner, Deborah, is a James Beard-recognized chef). There are great wines and great food downstairs, the room is a nice place to sleep, and I'm close to everything I came to see. I've never had a bad time at The Greenporter and I can only assume the negative reviews on yelp are from people who are too cheap to travel or who think the point of travel is to stay in your hotel room. If price is your major consideration, I wouldn't stay at the Greenporter. It's not a budget motel. It's a cool modernist hotel with an awesome bistro built in and close proximity to the show. This hotel was amazing!! I stayed here over Columbus Day Weekend and had an amazing time! It was literally 3 minutes away from the train station and bus stop. The owner was fantastic and checked in to make sure we were enjoying ourselves (make sure to check out the cooking class she hosts by the way!). SB (review from 3/24/10) has it exactly right. We just stayed there this past weekend. Talk about lipstick on a pig - the place should def be avoided. A little house music does not make a modern hotel. The rooms are really pretty terrible. Old Magnavox televsions, clock radios bolted to the side tables, industrial carpet, bad paint job, cinderblocks painted white. I mean, come on guys, not for nearly $300 a night. I'm so pleased to see that a lot of other folks have had a distasteful experience with this - stop throwing your money away on this low brow establishment. They misrepresent themselves on their web page, their customer service is atrocious and the rooms have about as much charm as a white padded room. It used to be one of the few spots to stay downtown, and so you sucked it up with the rationale that you were paying to be within walking distance to bars and restaurants. Off season, we were looking for a spot for 1 weekend night. We were told the hotel was half empty and that was fine, only to call back and have a very rude woman say that isn't their policy. Thankfully, there are more and more options to stay in Greenport ranging from B&Bs to nicer hotels. This place will take your money and leave you asking what in Gods name you were thinking for spending it there in the first place. Look elsewhere!! read more

The Greenporter Hotel deserves all the recognition it can get. That was our first time in Greenport Village for the weekend, and we had no idea what we were getting into. We arrived on Friday night all the way from Atlanta. After the long road trip we have had an amazing rest in a cozy king size room on the second floor. The weather was amazing! The staff was so welcoming and helpful in everything we could need : starting with our endless questions and little requests to the restaurant / entertainment directions. This hotel has a great location on the Front Street, it is only a short walk to the waterfront and Mitchell Park. Moreover they have a really nice pool for hotel guests. This is THE PLACE TO STAY IN GREENPORT for ease of transportation, location, and the best people around to make a time of your life! Do not go anywhere else!! read more

The worst hotel I have ever stayed at! My husband and I booked a hotel room for one night, for myself and our two little girls. We booked it for a Thursday night in September and it was still $200. My first mistake was not reading reviews online before going to this awful place. We arrived only to find out that they scheduled our overnight for the wrong month. They scrambled and were able to give us a room. When we arrived in the room we found ants in the refrigerator. We went to the front desk and told the front desk about the ants ( no big deal right, its happens is what I said to the front desk) She said she would take care of it. We came back from dinner and the ants were gone. We then put our food in the fridge for the overnight. We had bought expensive cheeses from the local cheese shop. When we went to check out the next morning our food had ants on it and so did my daughters clothes in her suitcase. I complained to the front desk again and they said they would send housekeeping to take care of it. This is as we are checking out. I was furious at this point. We had to throw away food. I wanted pay back for ants being in our $200/night room! That never happened. They blamed it on us, telling us that we brought food in and that we left food in the garbage cans. We were there for less than 24 hours and we somehow caused an ant problem?????!!!!!!! They said we left dirty diapers in the garbage. Again I reiterate we were there for less than 24 hours! We checked in at 6pm, found ants, complained and then checked out at 10am the next morning and there were more ants! The management is the WORST! Rude and completely unwilling to admit to any wrong on their part. We visit Greenport often and I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone. read more

Greenport, NY (Long Island) Having spent 3 nights here over Laborr Day weekend, I can safely say - weigh your options before committing. While the design of the motel (yes, motel) is inventive, the reality is that you can hear everything as though it were happening in your room - the people above you, their cell phones, anyone in the open-air corridor, casual conversation across the pool, etc... The hotel should be an "adults only" hotel given how horrific noises from normal children can be amplified given this situation. The fact that people brough children just made a bad situation worse. Each day we (and our friends in an adjacent room) were awoken by children pounding on floors (containing no insulation) and by kids playing in the pool area far too early. I know I sound like a curmudgeon, but it was truly an over-the-top experience that bummed everyone out - at $250+ a night. Curiously, the hotel chose to throw a party at 9p - 11:30p on Sunday night in their pool area. Note: motel is constructed as a triangle, pool in the middle, rooms face pool and no noise barrier. The result of committing to 3 nights at the hotel, we were provided with a "free" dinner at the French bistro at check in. Of course, we were only able to to choose from 3 selections, etc.., etc... just a bit cheesy. The food we did select was under-whelming, through the Roquefort salad was exceptionally good. The service was very good. The motel is on the main drag. From a location perspective, one can easily walk to all restaurants. read more

I stayed at the Greenporter for a weekend in early April. The timing was perfect because the room rates were lower, and the place was on the quiet side. I stayed in the King Suite on the second floor. The pool was closed so we did not experience any noise problems. The bed was so unbelievably comfortable, and covered by a goose down blanket. After an afternoon of wine tasting, it was great to pass out in. The location couldn't be better. The Greenporter is in walking distance to the town, the ferry and the harbor, and within driving distance of the north fork vineyards. In comparison to the hotel across the street, the rates are much lower for the same location benefits. In my opinion, it loses a star for the "free" dinner we were supposed to have. The food choices were limited to a specific menu and they were not very impressive. We payed what we would have elsewhere by the time we had a glass of wine each and tipped the waitress. We didn't even bother to stay and try our free desert or go back for our complimentary breakfast. Overall, we are planning to go back and stay at the Greenporter again. We know now not to bother at the restaurant and that there are better options in the town. The simplicity and space in the room, location, friendly staff, and comfort of the bed have me sold. read more

I have been coming to this hotel for many years but it has only been lately that I came during the Summer. I adore the intercontinental feel of the room design. It is very comfortable with a bit of European simplicity. I was very impressed to find there are specific rooms designed for bridal parties. A definite plus+. The pool was very clean, the water was the perfect temp & the hot tub was very nice. I complained to the owner about the 9 am opening but it's warranted because of the roar of the hot tub motor. Plus I didn't wake up till 9:15. The beds are super comfy. 800 thread count y'all! Which brings me to breakfast. A very nice array of breads, cereal, fruit, house made yoghurt & juices starts my day off beautifully. Another plus, being able to take my tea & fruit out to the pool made me feel like a movie star. The wait staff will bring your order to you. It's Cancun in New England! Or maybe just great service. I come to this location because it is the halfway point between me & some of my best friends. Many of whom have birthdays in the fall & winter months. We come, check in then meet in the beautifully appointed dining room. My last visit we were able to eat out on the "porch". I am always impressed with the chef. Local & seasonal seems to be their motto. Even with the wine, which is forever changing. If there is Gazpacho on the menu, order it. I mean it! I have the feeling the staff is family. They take care of everyone like you are the only one there. I've never felt more inclined to tip in my life. The only critique I would propose is their signature cocktails could use an ounce or more lime juice. The lavender blueberry is super sweet, it's good but SUPER sweet. The location is a home run. Not only is there a 24 hour convenience store right across the street but you are a short walk from the port where amazing ships are docked, the carousel, seafood restaurants galore & fun shops where, at one, I negotiated a $120 leopard coat down to $75.
