There's a lot of people in there, and they look fun, and have drinks in hand! Minutes later, we were clutching cold cans of Pabst (though we're not hipsters) and checking out the art. A wide array, some good some . . . well, nice try. They had some old boom boxes that were decorated all crazy, and those were pretty cool. Some of the stuff was not mounted all that well - no frames whatsoever. There was a wide variety of art, and for that reason alone, it's worth checking out this little gallery. They really did have lot to look at in there. One of the many storefront gems that make Andersonville such a great place.

Having wrote that, I really wish they'd bump up their professionalism a notch or two. For a gallery that's only open two days a week, I think it's strange that the gallery doesn't have bio information on all seven of their represented artists. They need to have a better answer than, "Sorry, I don't think we have anything about him."

The offices are mostly occupied by artists, so they prefer to keep a very low volume level. The building has secure 24/7 access, there is ample street parking and even a lot attached should you need to rent additional parking. The offices and parking are affordable, clean and in a new safe and up & coming neighborhood. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. Walking distance to the blue line and easy freeway access for commuters. I can't recommend this place enough! Should you need a short term or long term office space, consider this location! They also have a recording studio attached.

I was greeted with hellos from three different ladies but that's all I got from them. They must have smelled the lack of cash in my pocket. It's fine, I get it. At least they didn't push me out the door. Their space is really nice, almost too nice. Some day some one will have to explain to me how a gallery doesn't fill up all of that empty space. If it was me, I would have stuff hanging or sitting everywhere. They do get major props for exhibiting Jon Langford's work. If you don't know who he is, look him up! Ever here of the band "The Mekons"?! Or maybe seen his paintings on the bottles and other items for the "Dogfish Head Brewery". Langford is also an honorary board member of the Chicago based nonprofit organization Rock For Kids (which is Kyle H's favorite charity group). Anyways he has unique style that is really cool. If I could justify the crazy cost of art, I would own one for sure. As for TMG, it was worth the visit.

There's just something so cool, when asked where I am going that night to say, "I've got a gallery opening tonight". Indeed. Such was the case the other night when a friend was showing some of her work at the Thomas Master Gallery in Old Town. She only had 4 pieces but how exciting to walk into the gallery and see her work displayed and people gathered about discussing each piece. The art was masterfully displayed and the gallery staff was quick to make sure that everyone could find the pieces that they were looking for and could answer questions on availability and pricing. And even though I was just looking and there to support my friend, I didn't feel any kind of pressure from the gallery to buy anything. It's not an every night occurrence, but gallery openings? Always a fun way to spend an evening with others who can appreciate the beauty of art.

From the second I walked in, I was engulfed by a most delightful smell, perhaps a candle burning somewhere? I was greeted by the owner's assistant, Kate, who gave me an overview of the shop and some of the classes they offer in the back, like coptic bookbinding, collage, crafting, and self-motivation classes. They also have a meet up group called The Grown*Up Girls Club where you can meet up with other like-minded individuals and explore new art/craft/maker techniques. The Club meets the second Sunday of every month. The Collage Cafe is a newer business located in an adorable corridor mixed with other art-inspired shops. You can go door to door and visit each one while you're at it! Can't wait to stop back in. But, as I'm writing this, when I go back I realize the selection is too overwhelming for my taste (in a good way of course) because I want one of everything.

The owners--local artists and arts advocates, are giving back to the community by repurposing the front of the building into a gallery space, event space, and pretty much a space for any and all things creative. I recently had the pleasure of attending a photo shoot there. The morning light was absolutely ideal, and the white walls with the wood floors made for a perfect backdrop. The owner, Lisa, also in attendance, mentioned that she rented the space to the photographer on an hourly basis (can't remember, but the rate was very reasonable). Such a great addition to Evanston, and I loved the vibe so much I want to dream up my own exhibit for the future.
