After some research (on Yelp of course) I headed to Gilnahirk Tyres, even though it was on the other side of town from where I lived. I initially called to see what their prices were like and was told it was going to be £20 for a quick check over - I was happy enough with that as I didn't think much needed done. I arrived at 8:20am and it was absolutely rammed, must have been 5 cars queued in front of me - I was actually quite hesitant about going ahead with the service but I popped in to the reception and spoke to Billy and he said Bay 2 would be free in a few minutes! After that it was all straight forward - the car was in for a check over. The mechanic came out and told me I needed two new tyres so I went ahead and got them. £40 per tyre seemed ok with me. I was expecting to pay £100 - £20 for the service and £80 for both new tyres but to my surprise they only charged me £80 as the service was free if any extra work needed completing! This is genius and a lovely surprise. I was home by 9:15 am! The service was great. It may look chaotic but they know exactly what they are doing! They even offer an MOT service where they take your car to the centre for you while you're at work! Easy five stars!

The time I went to Gillnahirk to get new tyres for my beloved first car (which was a Suzuki Swift…read moreaffectionately known as Swifty to all who encountered it!) I had a pleasant and professional experience. I prearranged a time to come down to their garages to get them sorted, which was a painless process. There are about 4 different ramp areas so in busy times you should be able to get serviced efficiently. I was able to get 4 brand new tyres for £90 which was very reasonable. They performed their ask very fast, and I was in and out of the place in about five minutes, I felt like I was in some sort of formula one pit stop! The garage will take payments via both card and cash for when you are short on immediate funds! I have never had to have my exhaust serviced by them, but I am sure that if their tyre service is anything to go by it would be a quick and reasonably priced service!

Got a battery from them with a 2 years warranty (paid £73...yes £73). When it went wrong they…read moreinsisted that I bring the car to them . My car has no insurance at the moment so I wanted to bring the battery for testing... "No"... must be the whole lot or the warranty is not valid... Not impressed. Don't like the cockiness displayed. Remember - there are many car sparks in the area..shop around.

Popped a flat in Carrickmacross and was directed here by some locals…read more Not much to say: I was greeted as I pulled up, told to park my vehicle by a bay immediately, offered tea, my tire was replaced, and I was on my way inside of 30 minutes at a cost of only about 50 euro. Maybe that's average in Ireland, but I'd have expected to be waiting at least an hour and to pay close to twice that for the same service in the US. The gentlemen here didn't even try to upsell me on anything.
