Green Planet brought a breeze of fresh organic air to the Clinton Hill neighborhood when it opened a few months ago. Located right off the Clinton/Washington C train stop, it is a convenient place to grab a juice or a few things when your cupboard is bare. I really like the juice bar. They have a Super C drink that is half orange half grapefruit and some ginger that got me through a spring cold. They also have a nice bulk bin and lots of basics. They don't turn their invetory over quite fast enough so make sure you check the sell by date. I have encountered moldy loaves of bread and overdo containers of those veggie-chix salads in the fridge area. The owner is relaxing more and more now, I think he was a bit nervous about the business at first. He is more willing to chat and smile now. Seems to come from some kind of asian-religious-healthy-vegetarian angle but there is nothing overt or off-putting about it. It is not cheap by a long shot. $10 credit card minimum. I have asked if he would carry a few items and I am waiting to see if he comes through. 5 stars for being a convenient local organic grocer. Minus 1 star for the mold bread. Soy! read more

I moved to the area over a year ago. When I first saw this place I was excited until I saw their prices. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and double check the prices with other local business around the area and a little beyond. They are not only over price but had limited selection of products. For example lavander oil by Now, I asked them if it will be possible to get, they said next shipment, I asked 3 times and the shippment never seemed to arrive. I think it'll be best if they either change suppliers or change management. Their prices are even higher than WholeFoods! And as far as the "Green Juice" there are 2 other places that offer the same if not better service: Mr. Melon and Energy Fuel. read more

I just moved to Clinton Hill in the past few months and was thrilled to learn there was a health food store right down the street! For such a small store, I think it's rather well stocked and offers a surprisingly good selection. I haven't tried the juice bar, but I shop at Green Planet a few times a week for groceries. The people there are very nice and, so far, I haven't bought anything that ended up being moldy or stale. Prices are fair - typical compared to most health food stores, but many of the prices are lower than the supermarket down the street. As several other reviewers have pointed out, the bulk section is great. Decent selection of packaged dry goods and snacks and excellent selection of condiments - things I usually have to order online or pick up at Whole Foods like ume plum vinegar. They also have a good selection of teas and I was rather impressed by the array of personal care products they carry. The personal care stuff is a bit overpriced, but it's nice to know I could get so many products I use regularly right down the street if I ran out of something. The selection of supplements is fairly comprehensive as well - they even have some hard-to-find brands, but these are really marked up. Price-wise, you can definitely do much better elsewhere for supplements. I also agree with other reviewers about the limited produce selection and the refrigerated section. However, since my brother once owned a small grocery store, I always sympathize with people who have to keep a small store stocked, especially when it comes to perishable items. That said, the produce quality is hit or miss - the greens usually look fresh and apples are usually crisp, but items like berries often look not-so-fresh and are very overpriced. Bottom line: If you're vegetarian and/or live a natural lifestyle, they may not have every product you use - or every product at the best price around - but they have all the basics, from eco-friendly cleaning products and incense to supplements, groceries and fresh juice. It seems enough can't be said about the dearth of amenities in Clinton Hill. As compared to other affluent Brooklyn neighborhoods like Williamsburg, Cobble Hill, Park Slope, Boerum Hill, and even nearby Fort Greene, it's woefully underserved by proper supermarkets, "gourmet" delis, video stores and a health food store. Until now. Enter Green Planet, a small but well stocked health food store that's convenient and relatively inexpensive. (Yeah, you read that last part right--they beat the nearby Met Supermarket prices pretty consistently on packaged and canned goods.). They have terrific hours, too--open until 10PM most nights--a juice bar, and a friendly, graceful staff. And if the selection isn't quite up to what you might see at a larger version in Manhattan or on Bedford Ave.., the proprietor seems very open to suggestions on what to stock. I'll admit that while I don't buy my produce there very often, the selection does seem a tad slim and not always particularly inspired. Nevertheless I'm thrilled Green Planet is there, and find myself stopping in at least a few times a week. read more

This place is great. I love granola (especially bulk) and they have it... plenty of it. And it is cheaper than the last place I bought bulk granola from near Union Sq. GP's is only 3.49 per pound. I bought like 5 different kinds last night. The carob covered almonds are good too. I got my son his veggie chips and my mom got cashews and yogurt covered raisins that we also yummy. But they have soooo many kinds of bulk items and I will be back to get beans tomorrow. They also have a good variety of yummy drinks and other organic snacks. Can't wait to try my black bean tortilla chips!!!!! Good stuff at (mostly) cheapo prices. I just wish they had a better fridge/frozen section. read more

My husband and I purchased small bottle of Japanese vinegar. When I got home and gently removed the plastic seal, the entire top came off exposing broken glass..it may have been banged while in the store...So I brought it back and the proprietor as well as the cashier (a woman) were extremely rude, claiming I broke it!! they were quite aggressive and unwilling to talk..So I gently said a Tibetan prayer "Om Mani Padme Hum" (in Sanskrit it means 'The Jewel is in the Lotus" and as I said this I looked into their eyes...they were surprised that I knew this prayer in their language..they then opened the cash register tossed the refunded money onto the counter with such anger and meanness...I will never go there again... read more

I went in here today July 6th 2020, I was waiting and reading the menu and I was pressured and asked twice what I wanted. I'm African. For context, the owners are Chinese. I ignored the pressuring and continued to look, she then said "let me know when you're ready". I said ok. I wanted to purchase the pineapple smoothie, i said "can I have the pineapple smoothie please?" she didn't even acknowledge me but went straight to the fridge, after digging around for 30 seconds or so she said "you want apple juice or almond milk" . I then very nicely asked "oh don't you use real apples as the base" because I did not want processed juice. "She immediately raised her voice and repeated "you want apple juice or almond you have to pick one" ignoring my question.. Her husband I assume came next to me and said the same thing yelling mind you.. I then proceeded to explain to him that I just thought only real whole fruits would be used since they seemed to advertise as such. He cut me off and said "no , have a nice day" . I walked past him and said great service sir, he then very cowardly said something in Chinese which I could care less about. I don't always play the race card but this definitely felt that way and the owner and his wife are quite racist in my opinion. Just a heads up to anyone and see for yourself if you don't believe me. Could it be a little better stocked? No, not really - it is a very small store. Could it be a little less dusty? Yeah - I think so. A once a month Swiffer would do those shelves some good. Should they remove items before they expire - Hell yes they should. That being said, I really do like this store. The owner is a nice friendly man and the feeling is very laid back. I like that no one follows me around (a throwback from the old Korean stores that used to be in the neighborhood) and I can find the vitamins and essential oils I like without going all the way to GNC. They also have a huge selection of nuts, beans, grains and granola and in bins off to the side of the store. I hope they do enough business to stay around. It might be tough for them to stay competitive though because it's cheaper to go to the supermarket a block away now that they have a much improved organic selection. read more

Green Planet just opened and I'm so excited. I stopped in there last weekend and they had just started stocking their shelves, but they were chock full of bulk food items like granola and flour at very reasonable prices. They also have a limited, but very nice looking selection of organic produce and dairy items. Organic milk cheaper than the Met down the block is a godsend. Tenzin, the store owner joked with me one day about how he buys all his produce (ginger, etc...) in CHINATOWN and labels them organic and sells them in his store. I would never trust his products unless they were sealed. Fortunately, other health food stores are opening up around his store. Hopefully he will now have to step it up and provide real organic produce. Otherwise, the competition will force his business to not be viable. read more

I have always loved this store -- it's well-stocked with high quality healthy food that you can't always find elsewhere. Prices are reasonable. And the owners are so great -- there's always a nice vibe in the store. And to top it all off, tonight I tripped and fell outside the store and my kombucha bottles exploded all over my other groceries and broke. And he had me just pick out exactly what I'd bought before, gave it to me. The sweetest. It's a great local store in a market that's corporate-izing so quickly + they offer great products at reasonable prices. They'll be getting my business for a long time! read more

Great place! Awesome smoothy and shake bar! Try the Chai Latte Shake! To die for!! They have all the stuff you need and a great bulk section! The only things they could improve on would be a better selection of veggie burgers and more prepared food. read more

Pleasant little shop with smiling staff and a decent bulk section. The grocery section also contains nearly everything you need and they stock brooklyn-baked bread! I usually steer clear of the produce section as it does not have a high-turnover rate so that stuff isn't the freshest. I also don't really get anything in the fridge area either. Stick with the bulks, dry goods and the excellent smoothies (the chai smoothie is GREAT) and this place will keep you quite happy. read more

I like this place. The staff is very laid back and friendly. They may not have everything you want but give them a chance and support them. Trust me. If they close up, you will definitely miss them. I have to say I was very surprised to see all these great reviews on yelp.This place runs worse than the crowned fried chicken it is next door to. No offense to crown friend of course. ;-). They do not check the dates on the packaged goods. I purchased some tofu from them when I took it home I and opened it, there was mold inside, I went to take it back the next day, the owner refused to refund me, he told me it was not his fault it was his vendors. If you have the time I would take the trip to trade joes or whole foods and skip this little run down joint. read more

I've spent plenty of money at this place and only to be repaid by being followed around the empty store. I couldn't believe it. The woman that is always behind the corner - whom I've never seen walk around the store ...followed me and watched me. I walked in and went straight to the dried fruits and nuts and grabbed a bagged and looked up and there she on was. I was obviously uncomfortable and thought to leave but I wanted to get something for my daughter before picking her up from school. I went to the register to pay and I asked the woman why she felt the need to watch me. She immediately got loud and defensive saying "I can't walk around my own store!!" I responded by telling her she can do whatever she wants but people know when they are being followed, especially a blank woman like myself. I left really and was really upset by what happened. It was so blatant. I now have to explain to my daughter that we can't go there anymore. Please do not support a business in our neighborhood that is not going to serve all people with respect. I'm sure if I was in there the with my white husband it would have been a different experience. read more
