Courtney is amazing!!! This is my second review as time has passed and, now, she's helped us transform our whole yard and it's beautiful. She really is an artist and listened to all of our needs and concerns, and designed a beautiful front and side yard, taking into account climate change, screening from the street and park by our house, and overall tranquility and beauty. Courtney and Juan continue to impress months after our planting project was completed in October 2019. We were referred to Green Artisans by our genius landscape architect. She designed a plan for our front garden beds after we removed a HUGE evergreen that had grown taller than our house and wider than our bed and front walkway combined. The plants we selected to fill the beds were atypical, and we wanted healthy specimens and good soil preparation to give them their best chance at survival. Courtney and Juan gave us a fair price estimate, and got right to work prepping the soil and procuring the plants. None of us guessed how extensive the root system of the removed tree was, but Juan worked and worked to cull out the roots so the soil would be accommodating for our new plants. They also figured out a cost-effective compromise to underground irrigation that works well for our needs. Courtney did a super job of finding the plants on our plan and ensuring that the specimens were hearty. Juan is a beast with the hard labor of digging, aerating, culling roots, transplanting older plants, planting new plants, and tunneling for irrigation hoses. Juan also very helpfully pointed out little things he noticed that we needed to fix... an area where our new paint job on the house was incomplete, an area around a window with no caulking, a downspout that was separated from the drainpipe, etc. Things we wouldn't have found on our own, but that would have caused us problems later. They timed the planting perfectly, monitoring the weather for weeks to choose the most auspicious time to plant. After the planting was completed, Courtney and Juan continued to follow up to ensure we understood how to use our irrigation timer, and to check on the health of the new plants. They are very responsive when we text or email with questions. They did extra work that could not have been foreseen, but did not charge us more than the bid price. I think they operate their business with old school ethics, and are deeply invested in their customers' experience. We couldn't be happier with our new garden plantings. We feel very lucky to have found Courtney and Juan. They are knowledgeable, hard working, and all around good people. Green Artisans has our highest recommendation! read more

Our experience with Green Artisans started off well. Courtney was very friendly when giving us a quote. We signed a monthly maintenance contract with them that was supposed to be prorated for the year. This contract included an initial weed clean up and trimming our laurel hedges that had grown pretty high. After working on our lawn for less than 2 months (3-4 visits), they dropped us as a client because the work was too "difficult", that her crew was "unhappy", and our yard was "not their style" (quote from their email). They didn't even finish weeding our backyard and had not attempt to trim the hedges. Every visit had 2-4 crew members but they were there for less than an hour. Every time they left we were surprised they hadn't made as much progress as we thought. They were still working on the "initial clean up" by the time they dropped our contract. Would not recommend unless you have a show-worthy garden for them to maintain. read more

I agree with all the other reviews that discuss Courtney's lack of quality, doing inconsistent work or not completing the work at all, as well as her "terse" attitude and responses. Courtney was hired to do monthly maintenance and when I met her, she talked a big game, telling me about her expertise and capabilities. Once hired, she was not able to complete most of the work she promised. She continually had staffing issues, and then missed or chose not to do basic maintenance items. She claimed my yard was high maintenance and charged a high maintenance cost, but was usually at my house an hour or less. She was unorganized, couldn't keep details straight, and forgot or chose not to do things. It was a waste of my time, damaged my landscape, and was all around a horrible experience. read more

We hired Courtney in 2012 to redo our woods garden and to fine prune and maintain the rest of the garden. We have a hilly lot with no grass. Initially, Courtney worked with Juan plus a rotation of additional helpers and the work was great. She encouraged native plants to grow in the garden along with selected additional plants and shrubs. She or her employees kept up with the pruning and maintenance. Unfortunately, Juan left several years ago. During the last two years the pruning suffered. If done, it was not up to previous standards. Courtney had a more frequent rotation of new helpers. Early spring this year, maintenance on the woods garden was not done. For example, ferns that should have been cut before new growth only got cut when they were pointed out to Courtney. We asked that vinca be cut from a path and only two thirds was done then they left. The following week, early June 2021, when we asked Courtney to finish the vinca job and discussed with her the upcoming pruning needs, Courtney was not happy. We mentioned to the latest helper (as we have one with many others), that we wanted him to use the blower on the Star Jasmin to get the dead leaves out. His response was, "I only do what my boss tells me to do." Wrong answer to the person paying the bill. Courtney and helper left and later sent a terse note quitting saying "It became clear to me yesterday that we are not meeting your needs." Courtney was correct. Courtney has the potential to be good but I would recommend you keep a sharp eye on what work is being performed and the quality of the work if you hire her at the present time. read more

The landscape architect who installed my plantings, including a living wall and eco roof, referred me to Courtney and her crew for maintenance work. Other than give me a beautiful design, Courtney was the BEST find from him. I wanted a low maintenance yard and did not get one (review on that to follow). There is no way I could have maintained my landscaping and replaced the inappropriate plantings that had been installed without Courtney's help. Her dedication to my property helped me maintain my sanity as we both discovered that some aspects were high maintenance and some plantings were inappropriate. If I could go back in time, I would have Courtney work with the landscape architect in choosing plants. Courtney knows plants! We've replaced a few and already my property looks much better, even though many of the plants are still immature. She consulted with the developer of the living wall to maintain something new to both of us. She also replaced 20% of the plantings on the wall with much more appropriate, and sustainable, plants after the original had died off (this was before she started working with me). She did a lot of research on plantings before making suggestions to me and they've all been great. She's also referred me to an arborist when a tree trimming has been beyond the scope of her equipment. My eco roof turned out to be a disaster (the landscape architect was NOT qualified to install an eco roof and it's now being replaced by a certified roofer). Courtney came to my house to meet with each eco roof company when they came to consult on my roof. That is serious dedication. Her staff is VERY courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. Ian is the worker I've seen most often and he's great. The price is very affordable, especially for the knowledge and experience that comes with it. The best part about working with Green Artisans is the welcome I get when I return home the days they've been to my house. Everything looks wonderful. read more

Strengths include being very knowledgeable about plants and being easy-going. Over the course of months having Green Artisans help with lawn and garden maintenance we started to notice more and more little problems that began adding up. Not wanting to trim down plants in the garden (stating it was not in their job description), not noticing problems around the yard (like a varmint hole), leaving fallen leaves from our property on the street next to our property, and so on. Problems culminated with not coming as scheduled, not communicating about that, and not being apologetic about that. read more

I am so disappointed to even have to write this review, but others should know what business is like with Courtney and Juan. We called them up a couple months back, inquiring about work we needed done at the end of April/beginning of May. They indicated having that availability and came out to look at the project. They came out to our house and then expressed their interest in moving forward and said they would have a bid to us in a few days. Well weeks went by. I followed up via phone and email throughout, staying loyal to giving them our business. They finally gave us a bid weeks later, a couple days before we left on a vacation they knew about (we would be gone 7 days at sea without wifi). We replied when we got back that we would like to move forward, but were told they had moved on to a big project and couldn't do ours anymore for 6-8 weeks. It was so frustrating that we politely waited for weeks to get a bid from them, and they couldn't wait till we we got back from our vacation (again a vacation they knew we had from the very first phone call). I should have probably seen the warning signs when they were late to the very first walk through at our house, stating they were napping. I would avoid this company if you have a project you would like to get done on a relatively on-time timeline. read more

Jose did a wonderful job building a custom fence at our rental house! Green Artisans were the most competitive bid, very knowledgeable, communicated frequently, and completed the work quickly. Jose did additional work not included in the original scope (dug deeper holes so the posts would set better) without charging additional labor, so that the job would be done correctly. If you need a custom fence, I couldn't give a stronger recommendation. read more

Courtney and Ian have been maintaining my garden for years now and I could not be happier. Like the previous review, I also had a professional install my garden years ago. I hired that company to do ongoing care of the garden, but they were just terrible. A friend of mine suggested Courtney. He had been using her services for a while. She and Ian come on a regular basis and make sure everything is growing happily, not overgrowing and in general make sure I have the most wonderful garden on my block (you can ask my neighbors). One of the best things about their service is that they are a small local business and as such they have a flexibility that larger companies don't offer. If I have a problem and I need them sooner than their regular visit, I can get them to come. Recently I needed them to do some pruning before the house painters arrived and Courtney came on a Sunday afternoon to do the work. I really can not say enough good things about this company and the care they have given my garden. Highly recommend. read more
