This is the best place in the world to take a walk before breakfast (OK, OK, lunch) to blow away the cobwebs of the night before. A collection of public artworks along the recently refurbished (2004) New South Promenade with stunning views of across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man, Southport and even Cumbria on a clear day. Also, a fantastic location to watch the sun set over the sea. I won't list all the artworks here, I'll let you discover them for yourself, but to whet your appetite I'll mention 'They Shoot Horses, Don't They?' the world's largest mirrorball designed by Michael Trainor, which is the sparkling canvas for a funky light show during the Illuminations, the 'High Tide Organ' which uses the power of the waves to create haunting whale song tunes and 'The Frankenstein Project', which terrifies me every time I look in, I don't know why! Now to me, this is a lot more impressive than the far more famous illuminations. Stretched along a couple of miles of the South Shore, they've really done up the frontage of the prom so it all looks very modern and sleek. I still like the Victorian architecture of the North Shore, but I think this makes a nice contrast and somehow suits the more brash South Shore end of Blackpool. The Great Promenade Show is a series of outdoor art installations and are really impressive. The revolving wind shelters are amazing - absolutely beautiful and stylish - sit in then and they gently rotate with the wind to keep the wind off you whatever direction it's blowing it. Sadly some very inconsiderate people sometimes put rubbish on them but they are amazing. The worlds largest mirrorball is amazing, especially at night, and the Glam Rocks installation is really pretty. read more

Fab place to go roller blading or ride you bike even run with the dog. Its lovely at night for a stoll with your fish and chips just to look at the lighting of the seating and artwork. Listen to the sea or watch a lightening storm out to sea. read more
