I gave Great Clips a try after years of visiting neighborhood barbers. There were a few initial hiccups, but I've been consistently impressed with the service, particularly from Andre and Tim. Both are skilled barbers (Andre is a stylist) who take pride in their work. Tim, in particular, has exceeded my expectations, delivering flawless haircuts that leave me completely satisfied. Great clips has been my go to hair salon over a year now. I have their app which makes it easy for me to see how long the wait times are. I usually go during the afternoon times as the wait times are usually less. First couple of times, I didn't have a specific hair stylist. I would just pick whoever is free. Then I noticed that Lena gives me a perfect hair cut that I really like. I saved her phone number and schedule appointment with her every time. Highly recommend Lena. She is very friendly, very knowledgeable about different hair styles and her precious cuts are so good. She also styles your hair. Vibe is very good here. They are all very nice and friendly. Price is nominal compared to some of the other hair salons. Parking could be hard to find though. I usually bike to this place or walk as it's just 15 mins from my place. read more

I am pissed!! I walk in and am told to put my name and telephone number into the system. I immediately get a seat. The barber with the long grey hair was finishing up a cut and said I would be next. The first thing I said to her before she started cutting my hair was that I wanted to keep the side burns long. I touched the sideburns so she would know exactly what I meant. The first thing she did was cut on the clippers and cut off my sideburns it all went downhill from there. I have a haircut long on top and the sides in the back are cut short. I only wanted her to cut the hair down where it would lay flat, but I also told her I didn't want to see a lot of scalp. My hair is so choppy and uneven in the back that shut the door, what are you doing What is up with you it almost looks like a leopard print. Also, she put one clip on the top to hold up my hair so part of it kept falling down and she cut some of it with the clippers. She was running around the shop having people sign in rushing. She needs to slow down, take her time and listen to the customer. She had a nerve to say that she was cutting my hair the way a lot of people like to have their haircut so she figured I would like it too. Ridiculous.! Then she runs over to get some type of product and starts putting it on my hair trying to get it to lay down. She then said she would not charge me for the cut so I got up and left. Came in at 5:40, 74 minute wait. I expected to be told that it may not been seen, as there was 12 people ahead of me. Nope, they grabbed my name, email, phone number and said they'd text me 15 minutes before. Cool, waited close by until I got the text, and headed there. Walking there I knew id probably be there last customer and literally thought I'd give a generous tip and show some sort of appreciation. Got there at 7:00, 15 minutes after I was sent a text. 1 customer in the salon chair, two others occupied by stylists. One of the stylist gave a sarcastic smile and said "Sorry, closed" I replied "Oh I just got the text to come by" again, smiling he said "Nope. -pointed at the clock- 7:00." The quick exchange was very snarky. They no doubt had a busy day, and didn't intentionally waste my time but it was the rudeness at the end that left a bad taste. read more

Checked in on their app which quoted me a 65 minute wait time. With 40 minutes left until my spot, I walked 30 minutes to this location only for my name to have been taken off the list when I arrived. Then, I'm told it would be an additional 55 minute wait. I understand app issues may not be the employees fault, but when I asked them how this can be prevented they were rude, blamed me for the issue, and told me it's not their problem. I know the app usually notifies you of your upcoming appointment or when it's time to head over, but I received nothing of the sort. In any case, I will avoid this location solely due to the quality and rudeness of their employees. read more

I stopped in today to get a trim. I checked in online to save some time soon after parking. The app said the wait was 17 minutes but I was willing to wait. I went to the parking meter station and it said free parking after 630 pm to 7am. I was stoked!! As soon as I walked in the staff greeted me warmly and had me sit down in the lobby. A few minutes later Lena walked up and said she was ready for me. I did not have to wait more than 3 minutes. Lena asked me how I wanted my hair cut and soon was working on my hair. She took her time and did an excellent job at fixing me up after the bad haircut I received in Vancouver, WA. Lena applied some Fiber Cream and had me looking sharp. I feel like a different man. As usual, the 'stylist' asked me what I wanted and then did what every other barber does - what she wanted. I don't like flat sides. In fact I was very emphatic about it, but she did the bottom (almost) as I asked but then drenched my hair in water and proceeded to cut it straight so that the sides are flat. The hairstylist (Lena?) proceeded to buzz the same length so far up the sides and back of my head it looks like I have a Mohawk. When I asked for her to blend it in, she said she knows what she's doing and to relax. She kept adjusting my head at any slight movement and did not listen to my repeated concerns. This is the first time I've ever left a review for anything in my life, let alone a negative one. When I was in 3rd grade I had to get a buzz cut for lice, and this is the worst haircut I've ever gotten. I have a very basic "white suburban dad" haircut: 1 fading to a 2 on the sides, trim on the top. I got my hair cut by Lena who, from what I've noticed, has gotten repeated complaints from other reviewers. I couldn't believe that she actually had her license because she was using weird "techniques" that I've never seen before after having gone to Great Clips my entire life. She asked me how I like my sides, I answered with a 1 fading to a 2, then she proceeded to cut the sides down to a 1 anyway. The top is completely uneven and she had no clue how to handle the cow lick at the back. When I got back to my apartment, my roommates confirmed that it didn't look normal. She couldn't stop telling me how good my hair looked at the end of the haircut, and I can see why. It's such a shame that the owners are refusing to make the personnel decisions necessary to fix their business, because the location is extremely convenient for people living in NoMa. I will now be traveling further away for a very simple haircut that not a single person to this point has managed to screw up. read more

I asked for a trim, just one inch, and showed a picture of what I wanted. Lena gave me a full blown cut , about three inches, and all the hair I worked for, down the drain. I wanted to be polite and believe her when she said she knew what she was doing and that it looked great. I was hoping with some Styling I could save it. Absolutely not. I could tell you about how the guy cut my hair in less than 8 minutes or I could tell you about him holding a dog while cutting my hair, or I could tell you that he just stopped dead in his tracks while cutting my hair and without saying a word went over to the register to count money. Do not come here. I got what was undoubtedly the worst haircut of my life at this place. As you can see from the picture, it's completely uneven and had a couple of major holes. To their credit, I can back in and the other stylist did her best to fix it. However, she had to give me what was essentially a buzz cut to even it out... I appreciate the fact that they tried to fix the initial cut, but not everyone has the luxury of living in a nearby building with the ability to come back. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience today at the Great Clips near Brookland station. The woman (Sarah?) cut my hair far shorter than I had described to her. In fact, this is my worst haircut ever. At the start, I was careful to describe what I wanted. I said it was OK to use 9-mm clippers around the ears and back but that I wanted her to use scissors on top and leave it longer -- and I showed her with my fingers how long. After she used the clippers, she showed me how much she planned to cut on top, and it looked OK. But then she proceeded to cut and cut and cut -- and then even went back to the clippers around the top of my head. I was too polite to say anything (I have just moved from Japan, where they do a better job with these things), but I finally said, "That's enough!" I felt obligated to pay, so I did. But after walking out and looking at the damage, I walked back and requested a refund, which she gave me. Please: LISTEN to your customers! I don't think I'll be going back to Great Clips again. read more

I needed a haircut - bad! I was skeptical because, of course, the prices were low and DC mostly has upscale salons. This place was efficient and did a great job. I walked away with a haircut a "lob" which is basically a long bob with some short layering in the back to make my hair look thicker. I was quite pleased and I only spent $19. If you want your hair washed, dried, and styled it will cost about twice the price. The whole time I was there, I watched men come in for trims. Terribly unhappy with the haircut I received at this location today. The haircut was initially done on dry hair (a recipe for disaster with curly hair) and my hairstylist seemed to be slurring his words at the beginning of the cut. The cut was rushed and uneven, and none of the other stylists stepped in even as I was clearly unhappy with my cut. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, the hairstylist made me stand up for the correction. Now, I have an uneven haircut and am deeply unhappy with the way it looks. Do not go here -- not worth even $19. One thing that I should add to this is that the stylist PICKED UP THE PHONE during my cut, and continued to cut my hair while he spoke to the person on the other line.
