When KG's service people (there were two) came to turn on my system in May, they discovered that control box did not work. They showed me the typed of box they recommended and told me I could buy one myself and they could come back, install it, and start my system. Great! But, then not so great. I called KG on 5/23 after receiving a bill for the Spring Start-up. Since the system wasn't started, I called to question the bill. The rep needed to check with her supervisor. Fine. But, since I didn't hear anything, I called back on 6/1 and was told I should disregard the bill. Ok! I wasn't told that there was still a travel fee, which I would have understood. I was just told to ignore it. Luckily, I thought to CONFIRM during the call if KG WOULD install a box that I bought. Again, I was told that a supervisor needed to be consulted. That sounded odd to me because I was told by the service people who visited my house that I COULD buy one and KG would install it. But, the phone rep was pleasant and she'd call me back. Again, I didn't hear from her. So, I called today and was told that I was no longer their customer. WHAT? According to the phone rep, the service people gave me false information because - and this is her words "They are Hispanic." Yes, they were Hispanic, but the young man who appeared to be the lead on the job communicated beautifully with me. Perhaps he did not know the company's policy that KG won't install control boxes that they did not sell. I am not blaming him. I don't want him to be in trouble with KG. He was very pleasant. I just have a hard time understanding why I am being fired as a client. The phone rep could have just apologized and explained nicely that I was given misinformation. Last year I would have rated KG as 5 star. Is KG looking for reasons to stop servicing small properties or ones in the city? I don't know, but I feel as though I was treated unfairly.

Because my home is less than 10 years old, the quote seemed unreasonable, so I obtained a second opinion from another licensed electrician. I was informed that the underground service conductor issue was the responsibility of Xcel Energy, not the homeowner. I contacted Xcel Energy directly, and they inspected the issue and completed the necessary work within two days at no cost to me. Based on these facts, I believe I was asked to pay more than $2,000 for work that either was unnecessary or was the responsibility of the utility company rather than the homeowner. In my opinion, this was a serious attempt to charge me for work that I did not need to pay for. I strongly recommend that anyone receiving a costly estimate for service entrance or meter-related electrical work obtain a second opinion and contact their utility company before authorizing repairs. Several chimney companies came by with various approaches and pricing. I found Metro Chimney and Joe through a neighbor who had just had his chimney rebuilt through Metro and was very happy. Joe came by, gave me his bid and put me on his schedule. I was able to walk around our South Minneapolis neighborhood and see previous chimney work Metro has done. Although it was several months before they could do the work (very busy chimney repair season) I'm glad that I went with him. They rebuilt the top 5 to feet of the chimney and the Santa Fe tone brick looks great with the remaining stucco chimney and house. The crew knew what they were up to and very professional and thoughtful. The work took 4 days including the install of scaffolding. It's not cheap but much lower than the company that told me the whole chimney need replacing. Joe said they were wrong and just the top 5 feet need rebuilding. Joe is an honest hard working guy who has long term experienced employees. I had a good experience with this company.
