The individual is an individual. Whatever. My two grand-daughters are/were attending a parent/preschooler get together from late January until either next week or the week beyond. The program lacks diversity, inclusivity, and fairness; it feels prejudiced and biased. They could greatly benefit from trainings on how to interact with students from a person of color in the adult education field, especially regarding appropriate bias trainings. The trainer shared her biases against people of color and the LGBTQ+ community, which felt poorly thought out and inappropriate. Her examples of biased behavior came off as a parade of her prejudiced views, making for an extremely uncomfortable experience for myself and my classmates. While she may have had good intentions, the impact was heavy and distressing. Additionally, the trainer included unnecessary racial clips that further alienated students. The implicit bias training was prompted by the hiring of a racist teacher during the first three months of the program. They encourage students to speak out but do not genuinely value or act on feedback. The clinical site experience was particularly disappointing, as they prioritize the needs of the clinical sites over students, often without conducting a FAIR investigation. They also failed to plan this year's program with realistic goals for students in mind, hiring an unqualified teacher at the last minute. This left the class struggling terribly to learn the material needed to be successful. As a result, we are still behind on lab skills and other critical material. I came into this program with high hopes for success but left feeling disillusioned and concerned for future students. This program desperately needs to be investigated and revamped. While I want to thank Ms. Kathy Finnerty for being great and treating students with respect, I cannot say the same for others. I cannot recommend this program to anyone looking for a fair, structured, and inclusive environment. This was my experience and perspective on the LPN program for 2024-2025 term , I have since withdrawn . Although the money and time was wasted I will stand for what's RIGHT AND FAIRNESS for ALL !
