I was told that they would STOP all garnishments IMMEDIATELY before my next check in two weeks. Needless to say that did not happen. I was sent an email by the Office Assistant at the front desk saying that they had everything in order and that I just needed for them to contact me. Once again I reached out to them 2 weeks later and to only get the same response. Two paychecks later ( I get paid monthly ) and 3 emails with me asking when is this going to move forward I get an email from them asking why I haven't been in touch and its time to schedule another appointment. Talk about poor customer service. I forwarded the email on to Tomas McAvity thinking that he would want to know what is taking place at his law firm. His response was that he would refund my deposit. Do not hire Kalka if you are an abuse or trauma survivor. She is a horrible communicator and is…read moreverbally abusive to her clients. I can personally verify that both of the reviews on this site about her are 100% accurate and are things I also experienced in working with her. I hired her for a child custody case and instead of being my advocate and guiding me through this horrible time, she fought me every step of the way, insulted my kids, refused to do what I asked, and told me over and over again to just agree to everything the other party wanted, even when it was clear he was being extremely unreasonable and out of line. The entire time I worked with her I felt like she was a second lawyer for my ex instead of being on my side. I felt like I had no voice at all and any time I would try to assert myself she would fire off questions in rapid succession and then yell over the top of me and would refuse to allow me to speak. I very much felt like she was constantly attacking me. There were countless times that she would scream at me on the phone and I'd end up in years. She repeatedly told me she doesn't believe that her clients tell the truth and that she was sick of dealing with my case. After dealing with her for a year I simply couldn't take it anymore and fired her. I am even more traumatized than I was before I started working with her. It was incredibly difficult to communicate with her. If I asked questions I never got a direct answer. Nothing was ever clear. After hiring a new attorney who has more experience, I came to find out that she never fully explained aspects of my case to me, the options I had, and did not advocate in my best interest and withheld important facts in my case, which has resulted in my case being dragged out over a year and upwards of $20,000 so far, with no actual end in site. Working with her was a nightmare.

She wasted so much time (and my money) correcting her own errors and important omissions. for example, when I questioned a few important details in the parenting plan document, such as the correct year for alternating holidays, she became angry at me and told me to bring it up to the court if I didn't agree with her draft. She constantly emailed my ex's attorney with a snotty tone and would be completely unprofessional, argumentative, and rude. Then would bill me for that time, even though there was no need for her to be emailing constantly back and forth. When in court to present the final orders the administrative judge had to call her out for having sloppy paperwork, and not being in compliance and wasting court time, again Kalka became combative and unreasonable. I ended up firing Kalka as my attorney as she was not representing me in a manner that I felt was in my best interest. My ex's attorney ended up reporting her to the bar association for her lack of professionalism.
