It's pretty much a personal collection, sorted out and displayed for the public. I was there to see a few planes, and they have three or four. But they also have many cars, and tractors, and antiques, and old toys, etc. Every couple of minutes I would walk past one display and smile or laugh or gape in surprise at the amazing vehicle or artifact in front of me. There is one whole section of the building, essentially one big barn, full of John Deere tractors. And there are many, many other brands represented, of all ages. There are antique cars, and race cars, and just flat weird vehicles. There's an ultralight plane in the building, and several Vintage planes outside. Spend an hour or two, wander around. You can bring the kids, although it's not really set up for little kids and they can't climb on much. But it is super cool for them to look at all the old toys and interesting vehicles. Plus you can show them what a telephone booth was, and a switchboard, and a jukebox.

I spent some time in this Museum / Art Gallery and wished I had been able to spend more time here, it's a beautiful collection of early pieces, paintings, photographs and documents. I also had the honor to meet Monty, his enthusiasm, love and knowledge of the area is unbelievable, I wish I could of pulled up a chair and talked with him for hours. He did give me a brief history of the building that this museum occupies and some facts of the early days of McMinnville. I really can't say if the treasure here is the collection or the curator, don't miss the opportunity to visit if you're in the area.

That sweet couple saw an abandoned place (a land mark community hone) and knew they could fix it to nearly the original splendor. It is soooo worth spending the day there, and take advantage of the sweet little cafe. We just loved our lunch. The home was built with all the modern conveniences when indoor plumbing or electric were unheard of! It saw many different owners, including a doctor who turned the home into a hospital! It was even where the first hip surgery was ever done in the county. A must see!!!

It's not like the haunted tours that are so common this time of year, but rather, an introduction to some of the pasts citizens of the area. They have actors who portray some of the people who are buried there. Each actor is dressed as the person represented, and gives a first-person narrative of that person's life. I thought it was fascinating, and as an amateur genealogist, I'd love to see some of my own ancestors portrayed.

The outside of the museum seemed very obscure - as was the location of the museum itself. If we weren't explorers of new areas, it's unlikely we would have seen this facility. I suggest more visible parking lot signage out front and a large sign somewhere in highly visible public area of town or coming into the town of Carthage. We were greeted upon entry by a museum attendant. She walked us to the entrance and provided a brief overview of the contents. It was self-guided and FREE! The size of the museum was surprisingly fairly large as compared to what it appeared from the outside. The content was a tribute to locals and founders while providing a very thorough overview of periods in history with a nice variety and ample examples. Very few items were enclosed and surprisingly I saw no signs not to touch anything. Everything was accessible which made this museum feel different than others. There was a musty "old" smell to the building, but it "added" to the ambiance in a "true to period" way. It wasn't the cleanest, but that wasn't expected. There is a large area focusing on Albert Gore and family. We enjoyed the historical information and displayed items. We also enjoyed the history books on the table which we perused. Loved the tribute and pictures of area churches! Perhaps play some of the music in that area from your local musicians - use a CD you're selling at gift area. There are a few items one can purchase and donations are greatly appreciated. Other than signage, my only recommendation is to add some videos and perhaps more historical photos of the area. I'd really have liked to see photos of Hotel Walton and hope it will be renovated on our next visit. I highly recommend a visit to see this museum and thank the Board and community for maintaining and opening it to the public.
