I wish I could leave zero stars. My experience with Grants Roofing and Construction (based in Athens/Mabank, Texas) was a complete nightmare. We had a flood caused by a frozen pipe while we were out of town, resulting in significant damage. Grants Roofing was part of the remediation team from ServPro, and unfortunately, they were the most problematic part of the process.
From the very beginning, they overcharged for subpar work. What was initially quoted as a 20% fee quickly ballooned to 40%, and the quality of their service was appalling. Their subcontractors were the worst I've ever encountered. Despite numerous promises, they were rarely on-site and, when they did show up, it was only to pick up a check. Communication was nearly impossible, with emails and calls often going unanswered for days or even weeks. It felt like they had no real interest in completing the job.
When I eventually had to fire them, I uncovered a series of serious issues. The electrical work was not only messy but dangerously done, with outlets installed incorrectly. The plumbing had multiple leaks that required immediate attention, and the woodworking--particularly the trim--was poorly executed, leaving large gaps and uneven edges.
To make matters worse, they ripped out my security system, leaving my home unsecured for almost 20 months. The tile work was uneven, and the painting was a disaster, with drips and inconsistent coverage.
Ultimately, I had to hire my own subcontractors to fix everything: rewiring, cabinetry, painting, flooring, countertops, trim work, and more. The time and money spent correcting their mistakes was infuriating. If you're still considering hiring them, I have detailed photos of their work and would be happy to share.
In conclusion, hiring Grants Roofing and Construction was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. Find a builder who takes pride in their work and actually delivers on their promises. read more
