I'll put it like this my favorite thing at this place...the picked beets (that I am sure came pre-pickled). The fried chicken was pretty decent and my table mates said the popcorn shrimp, although obviously pre-breaded frozen shrimp ( ala Walmart deli section) was good for what it was. Salad bar had sad wilted lettuce, veggies were clearly canned and only dessert was canned chocolate pudding with cool whip. On the plus side if you are so dissatisfied with the food that you only near a handful of popcorn shrimp like one of my table mates they may not charge you. And let's not get started on the clientele. This place was recommended to us by several locals as the best place to eat and if that is so I really feel bad for the residents of Cherokee. read more

The salad bar was a solid 5 but the vegetables seemed to be tasteless, much like they came out of a can. The meat was cooked down to mush. It was clean and the prices are decent if you aren't particularly interested in flavor (or nutrition). An MRE might be a good alternative. Sorry, won't return. read more

So it's Friday and we were on our back from pigeon forge and we got hungry so I looked for the closest place to us but they all had horrible looking food. I kept looking and found this little place on your way out of Cherokee. We had four of us and did not have to wait at all. They seated us right away and took out drink order and told us to help ourselves to the buffet. The food was excellent. The salad bar was elaborate. And at the end of the Buffet there is a nice fellow who will cut you a few pieces of very tasty roast beef and give some au jus as well. Our waitress was extremely nice and convinced me to try the fried trout on the bar so I did and absolutely loved it! It was so fresh and fried to perfection. She even taught me how to get the meat out perfectly without any bones! Always a plus when I can eat fish and not have puncture wounds in my mouth when I'm finished. We from a small town in SC and love fishing but I never got around to learning how to debone fish until my waitress from Granny's kitchen taught me how. How wonderful! This place will definitely be on our radar next time we go to the mountains. Although I would suggest going a little further to gatlinburg Tennessee instead of stopping in Cherokee. For $11.00 a person, you can't go wrong especially if the discounted price on the Buffett at harrah's is $23.00 and looks no better although the selection might be larger. I would stick with the potato and sweet corn. The roast beef is slightly dry. The fried chicken is okay. The ham is decent . Oh for the price, it's ok! read more

Buffet is the only thing they have. No complaints. Really just basic salad, two carbs, two veggy, two meat and one desert set up....... The daily choices rotates. The servers all work their tail off, great service! The place was slammed for lunch, ensuring a good turn over rate for food at the bar. Buffet style, great for families or the very hungry. We went on Sunday at 6:15pm. The dinning room was set up in large tables, indoor pick nick style. The hostess and waitress were friendly and delightful. Our waitress explained the buffet, which consisted of salad bar, pasta salad, potatoes cooked in butter and water, green beans, carrots, corn bread, fried fish, fried chicken, roast beef and ham. Except for the fish, it was dry and overbooked, the food was excellent. The fried chicken was crispy outside, juicy inside. Vegetables were tasty, sweet and melted in your mouth. Our waitress also went over which foods were gluten free, which were quite a bit, which was a big plus. This was a welcome home style meal for a family who has been on the road for 8 days. My family and I arrived here after a long day river-rafting and brought healthy appetites. This restaurant appears to be the busiest one in Cherokee, although outside of Granny's, there doesn't appear to be many restaurants in the city to choose from. We had to wait 15 minutes to get a table because the place was packed. They only have a buffet and we read that they change the buffet selections daily. On Friday night, when we visited, the menu was delicious fried chicken, fried fish, mashed potatoes, man 'n cheese, salad, rolls, and more. Hearty meal and great flavor! On a buffet scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 1 not sure why they are so busy. So if your in town looking for good eats just keep looking.

As stated above by someone I was with, the service was extremely sub par. Had 7 groups that came in after us get seated before us. I half expect my hotel is paid to recommend this place to tourists. I know it's "southern cooking" which tends to be heavier, but while I grew up in Indiana my whole family is Southern. I grew up on southern cooking. I have never had greasier chicken, and on top of that it was flavorless. Most of the sides are from a box or can, so you can't call it home cooking really. I settled to having a large lackluster salad to finish my meal because I couldn't handle anything else. This was excellent. First time customer. Not sure what some of the lesser reviews are about. I tried a small bit of three mains- fried chicken, roast beef (carved) and meatloaf. The fried chicken was the best. All were good. I had creamed corn (can't remember the last time I saw that anywhere) and it was great. The fried apples were some of the best I've ever had. Salad bar was standard and well stocked. The staff was very friendly. Considering coming back in the morning for breakfast to see how they do with that. read more

i would walk back up that mountain RIGHT NOW for some salisbury steak. well, i'd drive. the fried chicken was pretty tasty too, although we had to dig around for wings :) (and we made a friend who was doing the same thing!) everyone is incredibly friendly--waitstaff and customers. also, they have a "clean plate rule" meaning that they reserve the right to charge extra for wasted food. don't worry though, there's really no way that you can't clean your plate in this place. read more

We were a large party of three generations from different parts of the country, and we were seated immediately. Great start! The potatoes were perfectly cooked (weird starter for a review, but they were!), and the biscuits were moist, moist, moist! My children ate up the chicken 'n' dumplings and several other items. My gf husband had full plates, as well. Our waitress was one of the best ever, too, in both attentiveness and charm! The prices were also great! Got here at 5:30 pm. There were over 100 empty tables and chairs (the place wasn't even 25% occupied) yet we had to wait for 15 minutes. When we left I counted 45 empty tables and chairs and they were telling new arrivals the wait was ins and one-half hour. It's a buffet. No waiting. read more

My daughter and I understood that the locals eat here and we arrived tired and hungry on our first evening in town. The buffet was varied, southern style, and very filling. Not much of food choices in Cherokee. This place was great the first few times. It's same the food choices if you go on a Tuesday and go back the following Tuesday. They have the same dessert everyday. The food is good but it's always crowded and feel cramped and when at the buffet and sitting. We went to Granny's since there was no other restaurants in the area except fast food. The price wasn't too bad for a buffet, 8.95 for adult lunch, but once you got to the bar you could see why. The food was a choice between fried chicken and a gravy with what seemed to be Salisbury steak, then mashed potatoes and green beans and they had what looked like fried squash but it wasn't refilled the whole time we were there. They offered some elbow noodles with stewed tomatoes in it, and just like all the other food it was the same thing OVERCOOKED and NO seasoning at all. To tell you the truth my husband can't even mess up green beans and those were oily , had no taste and I could only ever down a bite. If you like salad it's a great place other than watering down the dressings, but definitely do not waste your time or money. The waitress and the little girl seating were the only nice thing in the place. The cook looked like he should know what food should taste like, but he had no joy from what he was doing and did not take pride in what he was putting out. Awful awful food. Sad!! read more
