I've been a member for more than 30 years. I've used a lot of services including car loans, home improvement loans, cashier's checks, wire transfers, checking and savings. The locations are convenient. I've never had a bad experience. There is sometimes a long wait on the phone. I believe that started about the same time as the pandemic. They lied to me about the distribution of loans to prevent me from going with a different loan company. They said my funds would be in my account the following day. Instead, I received an email on the following day saying my loan had been cancelled because the application timed-out. I called and asked them about this. They couldn't explain it other than saying they would be happy to process the application. I think they lied to me to get me to sign up by promising services that don't offer. They said never tell people that funds will be available the next day in their account. Well, they told me and it cost me a bunch of returned payments and overdraft fees. That why I was looking for a loan in the first place and I explained this to them. They lied to get me to sign up and then cancelled my application.This is the second disaster I've dealt with them before. read more

They will block your card with NO NOTIFICATION. Then have you on hold 10 min or more to figure out what is going on with your card. Up until the last 5 yrs, they were fine, but now there is no confidence in if you have access to your funds or not. It has been an awful experience and would not recommend them. In fact im open to referrals to other credit unions. They do not attempt to understand the customer or their needs. Its the absolute worst experience with banking in over 50 years. read more

After 15 years with GCU, I'm done. I've watched their service and online banking technology steadily decline. Their outdated system has now cost me over $150--not because of my mistake, but theirs. One example: I transferred money over a weekend to cover utility bills. Their system was down, and even though the funds posted on the 1st and charges hit on the 3rd, I was hit with $75 in overdraft fees and $60 in returned payment fees from utility companies. That's nearly $150 lost due to clunky tech and poor systems. It doesn't stop there. I constantly get API error messages when trying to check my accounts. On another occasion, I mistakenly hit the wrong button during a transfer due to a confusing user interface, and that cost me another $25. To make matters worse, I tried to close my account online and got a message saying someone would call me. No one ever did. Banks should be accountable for their broken technology--not charging loyal customers for issues they caused. I should have consistent, reliable access to my money and control over how and when I manage it. Goodbye, GCU. Capitol One is leagues ahead of you. read more

Always there ha more like always taking your money. never using granite credit union again. 3 months ago I reached out to get options for debts related to a business that I was shutting down. no communication no follow up no agents calling discussing payments or due dates or anything that can be adjusted or changed. They drained every account including my 19 year old sons account with the same name. I understand I have obligations but my son and family have nothing to do with it. read more

I have had a large amount of money in Granite credit union for the past five years. I have been disappointed with their rates the past several years. They have a very large penalty for five year CD early withdraw. 365 days! when my CD's mature this April I will be moving them to more competitive credit unions. This is the worst financial institution I have ever dealt with, bar none, and I have a dozen years experience as a commercial banker. All seems well on the service, but buyer beware. We were recommended to GCU for a short-term HELOC by our mortgage broker as we made repairs to our previous house prior to selling it. The reference was based entirely on a competitive APR. This was a HUGE mistake. They, a sweet motherly representative, subtly slid in account balance insurance as something we needed to sign off on for the HELOC. We caught onto the account insurance secondary product and canceled that fairly quickly. Once the red flags were raised we paid the balance in full. Much to our surprise we got a late notice. First one...EVER for me. As a banker my credit history is taken into consideration for job applications. GCU had failed to calculate the correct balance pay off amount and nearly reached the threshold of reporting us to the credit bureaus over the singular day of interest for the day that we paid the loan off. $0.71 cents. They nearly damaged our credit over less than a dollar. In undeserved fairness, they did call...after TWO months! After a few calls we sorted that issue out and thought we were done with this terrible credit union. NOPE. Once our house sold we were hit with a $468 reconveyance fee on a zero dollar balance! $75 is average. $468 to be rid of them. Absolute gouging. We have since notified our mortgage broker (who referred us to them) and he, who was totally unaware of these shady practices, has promised to never recommend them again. read more

granite credit union intentionally refuses to receive payment as well as insurance info to try and add on fees wherever possible. If you deal with these people you need to DEMAND they provide receipts and proof of literally everything provided to them. DO NOT trust them or take them at their word on anything. read more

I have been with Granite Credit Union since 1975.. over 40 years! Overall experience with them has been good. It usually depends on who you are dealing with as far as customer service. In all these years I've only had a couple of bad experiences, solution was, steer clear of those people. Problem solved. read more

This review is a few weeks late in coming as I closed on April 3rd, 2019 on my first ever home, and while still in the state of California. This was an absolutely painless procedure...I had been told many nightmare stories of buying a house, and this was NOT that at all. The professionalism of Todd and Lindsey In qualifying me and then taking me effortlessly through the mortgage procedure was amazing to say the least!! Granite CU is a joke if I could give it a zero I would. I have a credit card there and every time I go to use it I have to hold my breath as to whether or not it will work. I'd like to cancel, but don't want to take the hit to my FICO. I also have a high limit. However, every other time I use it they shut it off because they suspect fraud. And it's not like I'm using it for obscure purchases, I use it with common retailers like eBay, Amazon, local restaurants etc and it still gets shut off. Then no one calls or texts to inform you it's been shut off until you go to use it again and it gets declined. I've never been late or missed a payment and have perfect credit. Then to re-activate you have to call someone at the branch and often you are on hold for 5-10 minutes. Granite CU is a complete $#it show and I would never recommend them to anyone. Do not use this institution there are way too many other options. read more

The worst Credit Union I have ever dealt with I opened an account about 2 weeks ago WITH A CASHIERS CHECK! They told me they would send me a debit card, it has been over 2 weeks, no card so I called and they told me to pick it up at the branch. I picked up the card, left the bank, tried to use it and it was declined! By now branch is closed. Nothing to do but wait This isn't the first thing. They are impossible about EVERYTHING! Several people told me not to open an account there but they are conveniently located for me so I did. This bank is NOT convenient! Really? Over 2 weeks to allow me to have access to my money? Applied for an auto loan with Granite Credit Union. The loan officer assigned to me was Vanessa Rubio. She was condescending and rude throughout our loan application process. I ended up going through another lender with a slightly higher rate to avoid ever interacting with her again. read more

Wow been a member for over 30 years never had any problems with Granite Credit Union. They have always been very helpful with all of our needs. Well things have changed with Granite Credit Union they have seemed to turn into one of those big banks. I don't know if it's a new Board Of Directors. Or if they have just decided to grow and forget there Roots. But after all these years we are looking elsewhere to bank. read more

If I could leave a lower star rating I would. I helped my brother open an account here thinking that a credit union would take much better care of him then a bank. WRONG!! I deposited a check for him that I had written him and after I had left they called him to tell him that there would be a 10 day hold on the check because he's a new member and "they didn't know him". The check cleared from my bank account that day, they have the funds from my bank but refuse to release them to him for the next two weeks. This is the most unethical thing I've heard of. Run from this place as fast as you can. They charged us 1% of our car loan every single month six months in, which almost negated our payment entirely, because we didn't send them our renewed insurance. But they NEVER once tried to contact us saying that they needed any statement. When we tried to contact them to discuss why our payments weren't paying down our loan, they refused to acknowledge the fact that we were insured and refused to refund us. We lost a couple grand because of their poor customer service and the fact that they didn't let us know that they wanted updated information. If you do use them, read the fine print or be prepared to be fined several grand read more
