While out of town with nothing to do for the rest of the night, we decided to go watch a movie and…read morewhat ensued was the weirdest movie experience I've had. Getting our tickets and snacks was easy, but being in a small town where a meal costs around $13, charging $5 for a candy bar is insane. The theater was great and comfortable, but about thirty minutes into the movie, the film started skipping and it wasn't letting up. Eventually, multiple parties went down to let someone know and they stopped the movie for five minutes to get it back up and running. Then they turned it back on, but there was only sound no picture. After ten minutes the movie went off without another hitch. Not to mention, almost every group was talking during the movie, which was super annoying. Obviously, not the theater's fault, but it's one of my biggest pet peeves.

When I hear the New Mutants was finally being released and finding out this place was open, i was qued up. With regard to this theatre its relatively new, probably 3-4 years I'm guessing; not much pazaz on the exterior and the entrance is relatively small as far as theatre's go. Ticketing are immediately once you pass the exterior doors. Apparently movie hot dogs aren't on the menu since most people here in town don't consume them. Really! The actually movie seating is stadium seating and the seats are big leather / pleather automated recliner type and big cup holder. I was probably 5 Stars for the comfort. The sound system is some of the best I've heard and another 5+ stars. A disappointment is the actual screen. It seem smaller than it should and what makes it appear smaller is the screen resolution was not sharp and the contract from light and dark really sucked. Regardless it was nice for a change to have some normalcy and wouldn't have any issues coming back here again.

Gone are the days when Minnesota had more than a hundred drive-in movie theaters. There are only a…read morehandful remaining. For nostalgia-sake, and to give our children the experience, we recently visited The Long Drive-In in Long Prairie, and boy was it fun! Families gather there a couple hours before the film. The grassy area in front of the screen was completely filled with families and children playing catch, tag, and just having fun. It was very family-friendly. Vans and vehicles would back in with their hatchbacks open, lay the seats down, and kids would lay down in the back of the vehicles and watch the film, while others sat outside in lawn chairs. This family-run operation is well worth supporting just to keep it going. It's a great summer activity with your family, and will give your children a truly unique experience. The concession stand remains open all night, during each double feature. The cost is less than you pay at most movie theaters. On a beautiful night, it doesn't get much better than this. I highly recommend The Long.

For a double feature it's $6 for ages 12 and up, $3 for 6-11, and free for children under 5. The crowd consists of many locals (it is the only movie theater in town) and wannabe time travelers-but who can blame them with a place as swell as this? You will see cars with couples, minivans with families, and pickup beds full of friends. For an even better experience, bring a blanket, lawn chair, and mosquito repellent. They allow dogs and also have primitive camping available.
