I believe this specific market came to fruition in 2013, and it attracts many NYP and Columbia employees in the 7 hours it's opened. You've got a lot of your usual NYC farmers' market players there, such as Red Jacket Orchards, and there are plenty of demonstrations by GrowNYC staff. There are also bins for compost and textile recycling. The small section of Fort Washington between 168th and 169th is lined with a multitude of fruits, vegetables, cheese, baked goods (including vegan), plants, and flowers. I always manage to leave any visit with a shopping back full of goodies for about $10 on average, and the vegetables will usually last me through five days of cooking lunches and dinners for myself. The quality of what I buy there exceeds any grocery store. (As it should.) This may be one of the lil' guys, but this is not a farmer's market to be missed if you're in the area any Tuesday from June though November!

It was 3:45 pm on Tuesday and I just wanted to buy some green beans to feed my child. I asked for a bag and he ignored me. I went to get a bag. Then he took the beans away. When I asked him where the beans were, he slammed the tomatoes he had in his hand down on the table so hard I thought the table would crack. I thought the market closes at 4 pm. I guess he didn't care if the beans rotted in his employer's truck instead of selling them. I went down to the vegetable stand near the 175 st bus depot where the guy had green beans for $2 a pound. Half the price of Morgiewicz.

A must visit market for your fruits and veggies. The farmers' that come here are small family-owned farms from NY & NJ! Everything they carry is fresh, local, and organic with no pesticides or spray. And as if all of the above PLUS having a farmers' market up here in the Bronx isn't amazing enough their prices are ridiculous!!! They are often the same if not cheaper than the regular stuff we find in our supermarkets. Really, I find this to be pretty incredible because organic food is usually so much more expensive, but not here. I went there today and picked up apples, plums, peaches, kale, red basil (smells AMAZING), eggplant, zucchini, cucumbers, tomato, beets and organic corn (I stressed organic because what we find in stores is mostly genetically modified corn) - my total was under $25. The market often has cooking demos and you can always find literature on food education, recipes, seasonality, recycling, etc. and the beautiful ladies that organize this truly do an amazing job and are very passionate about everything the market stands for. If are a local make an effort to stop by you will not be disappointed. Go support!!!

I went to the farmers market this week up in Kingsbridge since I missed the Saturday one in Inwood. When I arrived to the market I was...surprised. There's only one stand! When I think of a farmers market I imagine 10+ vendors selling a variety of locally sourced goods. The stand that was there only has fruits and veggies. I didn't think to ask at the time if there are more vendors during the spring/summer season. The individuals that were running this particular stand were warm and welcoming! At the market I picked up zucchini, squash, and a mini-bucket of brussel sprouts. My favorite part of this market was its affordability - those three items for $5.75?! Sign. Me. UP! The veggies were fresh and great in my dinner Sunday evening. At the end of the day I did have to run to Aldi to pick up items I was hoping to purchase at this market. But it won't stop me from coming back since the prices can't be beat, and I hope they can feature more vendors in the future!

Boun Pane sells amazingly filling, inexpensive, gourmet focaccias. at ~$3 a pop, i grab one almost every week and eat it with an apple for lunch. only available on thursdays though i tend to buy my apples at the stall on Bway and 114th. i love mixing the varieties into a grab bag of unknown deliciousness also, i love love love that the market also collects old textiles, shoes, and FOOD SCRAPS!!!!! for composting every sunday at the stall across the 116th st. university gates. only bummer, you have to drop off the scraps between 8 am and 12 pm. just collect your scraps in a bag or bin (no dairy, meat, or liquids) and drop it off! let's compost people!

If you are an early bird like I am the vendors may not all be set up for sales. It's the perfect place for a Greenmarket so students and faculty can take advantage as well as neighborhood residents. I'm reviewing so you are aware of this location and recommending you visit. I intend to return on a Sunday. Something tells me there will be more vendors available and additional services. My friend Jerome said there's compost recycling on Sunday! Not that I'd carry mine this far!!
