It's a great way to get physically fit through things such as strength, coordination and flexibility training. I've met a few of the instructors and they were very kind and genuinely interested in helping your child master these skills. It's a great thing for the kids socially as well they also get to work at their own pace without any pressure from others. The same principle apply to the adult Kung Fu classes. Adult kickboxing classes are also available for those interested. Nee's has been serving the community for almost 40 years which is a true testament as to what they believe in which is to bring out the best in each of the lives they touch. He brings the foundational skills of Brazilian Jiu-Jistu that you won't find anywhere else. He is very good with the children and cares for all his students deeply. He gives a 120% to each individual each time. My Master helped me lose 27 lbs and gain strength I didn't know I had. He also taught me how to protect myself, which came in handy in college. He also trained my mom for two years. Luciana, his wife, is the administrator and takes care of everything you need outside of the mats. They are very honest and clean. There hasn't been one day that the gym was not smelling like Pine-Sol (which kills the covid virus after 10 minutes). Even during the middle of the pandemic, they completely adjusted their business to meet CDC guidelines and make sure all of their students were safe. This place is very family oriented, and our Master will teach your children family values to carry on with the discipline that comes with every martial arts. The children also have a great after-school program that picks up the students from school, make sure they have a structure routine, and includes homework tutoring. But from personal experience, bjj is a martial art that will teach your children to protect themselves in any situation. If you come here, you will not be disappointed. Long review for those who need it:…read more I've been a student now for just over six months after a long break from training with the Valente Brothers and other martial arts and sports, and here are my thoughts. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is widely recognized as arguably the most effective martial art out there. This goes for self defense, practicality, training no matter your size, gender or athleticism, and being able to be very effective well into old age. The Gracie system is the purest and most mature implementation of BJJ and the Valente Brothers name is unsurpassed in BJJ and Martial Arts. This isn't my opinion, it's widely recognized and well deserved. If you are doing your homework, please feel free to research and verify this yourself. The big advantages of this school include first being part of the Valente Brothers network. Their instruction is very high quality and they frequently have seminars by some of the biggest names in the art: Gracie's Rorion, Royce, Rickson, Rener, etc. (and before he passed away Grandmaster Hélio was a frequent and visible presence). The next advantage of the VB network is being able to train at any center with them: Ft Lauderdale, North Miami Beach, Pembroke Pines, Coral Gables, and Guatemala (of course you probably won't drive to the last one as easily) at no extra fee, just whichever part of town you happen to be in. Finally, and probably most importantly, my feedback on this school. The Fort Lauderdale school is very much a reflection of the head instructor, Bruce Belfield, who is just one of the most impressive instructors I've ever met and I think you'll ever meet. Looking back on years of education, both for schooling and physical training, I've had very few teachers for anything who are this good. Bruce is very highly skilled, has a deep and extremely detailed knowledge of the art, and most importantly is an amazing teacher. It's almost weird sometimes when I think "boy I'm not sure how I'd do that move real time" and he'll say "I know you're probably thinking you're not sure how you can do that move real time, but try it out and I'll give you feedback!" He's just very good at getting the point across and I am surprised at my own pace of growth, which is first and foremost a testament to the quality of my instruction. The school is very clean and the environment very friendly and professional. Many of the students are professionals themselves: police officers, lawyers, pharmacists, a dentist, several physicians (including myself) and medical students, business men and women, etc. There is a big presence of female students. In some lessons they will even outnumber the men although it's usually just over one third of the regular class (I'm not counting the women's self defense, which is at least 15-20 women per class). As for price they are about average for martial arts instruction in town. What you get is way above average instruction and you can come to as many lessons as you like at whichever schools you like, and you have plenty of resources for very high quality instruction, so it adds up to a better deal than average martial arts schools. Add to that the amazing environment and you simply can't do any better. My biases: I'm still a student at this school (also spend time at the North Miami school), I'm about the same age as Bruce, I'm male, I'm a professional (who works lots of hours), I've trained other martial arts/sports before, I don't have any particular interest in sports competition (although wouldn't entirely rule it out), and I want something effective that I can reasonably participate in 100% for the rest of my life. I hope my feedback helps. When in doubt, contact the school and stop by to see for yourself :) ------- UPDATE ------- It's been over a year and I'm more hooked than ever. I'm leaving my initial impressions above unchanged, but here are 3 take-home points I think are most important: 1) Quality of instruction. The Jiu-Jitsu here is top notch. It's self defense, simple and correct moves anyone can do, and very refined and precise approach to self defense, fighting, and martial arts. Don't take my word for it, ask the biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts. There's a reason "Valente Brothers" has such an amazing reputation. 2) Quality of instructor. This I can't stress enough. Bruce is an incredible teacher. We can all look back on school and remember of those top few teachers in our lives and think "why couldn't I have that one for every single class." Bruce is just very, very good at teaching, clearly enjoys it, and has a strong vision for your learning process. I appreciate this more even day. 3) Unlimited classes Up to 4 group classes a day (depending on the day) plus any amount of private classes you want to sign up for. We came here last week to take their free introductory class for my 5 year old. He's pretty shy at…read morefirst and doesn't like loud noises, but at the end of the 35 minute class, he was begging me to sign him up for more classes. The only "loud noises" are the 4-6 year old kids shouting in unison, "Yes, Sir!" (super adorable). The prices are very reasonable, especially with their promo going on right now that includes the uniform and a month of unlimited classes. Then you can choose from 1 to 3 classes per week at different price tiers. I was really impressed with the space - clean, colorful signage, family friendly, and inviting. We even found the other parents to be friendly as well...they were applauding my son's efforts, knowing it was his first time. There are two rows of chairs along the side of the room where parents can sit and observe the class. Another wall is all mirrors so the kids can easily see the rest of the class and themselves. There's a smaller equipment room off to the side with a water fountain, so no need to bring bottled water. Because it was Friday evening (so the most popular class), there were a handful of young instructors helping out in addition to Master Yu. I loved that. Their ages ranged (from what I could tell) to high school age to college... they were all super supportive and knew their stuff! Sometimes, adults can be intimidating to little kids, so to see younger Tae Kwon Do students helping with the class instantly put my son at ease. The class is well-structured with Tae Kwon Do instruction, but also exercise drills that start with stretching. Sometimes the counting of the moves is done in English, and sometimes in Korean (love it!!). The class ends with all of the kids bowing to their parents and saying, "I love you". There is a theme of teaching the kids respect and courtesy throughout the class, and I think that's what I took away most from this facility. While my son may think he's training to be a Lego Ninjago warrior, I know that he's actually learning valuable life lessons. We're very much looking forward to making Yong In Tae Kwon Do an important part of my son's life!

Our girls were nervous and intimidated their first intro class but the instructors were so awesome about going at our girls pace and making them feel comfortable and welcome. Our girl's have flourished in so many ways, even outside of martial arts. Particularly for them, their confidence & empathy. The girls have had the privilege of being instructed by Mr. Neves, Mr. Garcia and Mr. Guerrero. They are awesome instructors and people. They truly care about the students and their progress. And they're great about giving corrections and critiques in a constructive, positive way. The training is not only instructional but also fun. The training they receive is not just self defense and technique but also life lessons. They're tasked with "homework" related to self discipline, team work, etc. Belt testing is signed off by parents and their teacher. That way the students are held accountable for their eligibility to test for their next belt.
