The folks at Zwaska are professionals…read more This family-owned and operated funeral home has been in business for a long time and for good reason... they seem to be quite good at what they do (which can't be easy). I found myself through their doors for the first time in May for my Grandfather's funeral. I interacted with the man I believe to be their director just a bit during the service and then thereafter at the burial; he was thoughtful, courteous and attentive. (He has the "tone" and interaction down to a science, I'm guessing.) I found myself again at Zwaska last week Monday (this time, for my Grandma). We certainly didn't expect ourselves to be re-enacting and re-living the events from May in such an untimely manner, but that's how life works, I guess... (It all felt like deja vu, really. I oddly started to feel at home. I know where the coffee maker is and I know how to use it, now.) All that said, given the nature of these sorts of events, Zwaska is a nice place. The space itself is clean and the facilities adequate but no-frills. The décor itself is quite antiquated, but I haven't spent much time in funeral homes... not sure if that's par for the course or what.

Sadly, my Aunt passed away of Cardiac Arrest last week. My brother found Zwaska Funeral Home to…read moreuse by the time I arrived in town. Since my family is from India, we had people flying in from India at different times based upon how quickly they could get a visa. So because the children of my Aunt arrived at staggered times, as soon as they came in they wanted to see their mother. Zwaska was able to quickly accommodate them seeing their mother as they arrived in town. And most importantly they were able to accommodate us with the spiritual requirements we had of chanting certain religious songs for an hour and then being able to carry her into the cremation area and turn it on. It was devastating for us but they were very respectful during our grief and helped us throughout the process. They were also able to quickly get us the death certificates we needed and all paperwork required for travel to take the ashes back to India. They also gave a black plastic urn that had the ashes in it which was just fine for our needs. If you need a respectful funeral home during some of your worst times you can trust them. At the end of the day, they want to make you happy and they will do whatever they can to help you. You can trust these guys.

"technology" can be the worst... I went to the ladies room... attempted to wash my hands... Could not get the faucet to work!!! Attempted again after I used the restroom..nothing. Had a seat on the bench while another woman attempted to use it. Nothing. Time for a new, just standard faucet, no fancy things... Maybe set a bottle of hand sanitizer in there too... in case such problems persist. Especially as we enter flu season. A bit frustrating. Otherwise it seemed they took maticulous care in setting up the memorial. That's the important part of the review, so thank you for that!

Marco, who assisted us with my 92 year aunt was caring and empathic. Very helpful with all our options as she passed somewhat suddenly and we had nothing planned . He was very transparent and discussed all of our costs up front, which was very much appreciated. He listened and was very knowledgeable; providing us with the information we needed to provide her with a beautiful send off. It was our wish to take her urn up north to be placed in the family plot. He researched and found out who we would have to work with to do this. This gave us a great deal of comfort knowing he had our needs well in hand. So, I called northwest and the director said she will call the other director when we got off the phone, get she did not call or follow through. We have decided to take our money and business to White Krause funeral home. Those people when we called were on top of what we needed. We were given personal phone numbers to call any time. Northwest did not do this. This is why you can't deal with black folks as they don't take care of business. If you want it done right you know where to go!!?
