Hmm this wasn't as good as I expected which was a bummer. After hearing that Guy Savoy opened a Briocherie, I knew I definitely needed to give it a try. First things first, this definitely wasn't what I expected in a brioche. So part of my review might not be very accurate since I'm no expert in French pastry traditions. I was expecting more of a soft fluffy bread, but got a relatively hard.... cinnamon roll like pastry? I know, cringe-worthy description, but you can just look at the photo.
I appreciated that they let you sample some flavors. I sampled the praline and thought it was good, so I got that. The flavor was great, but I just wasn't loving the texture of the product. Literally imagine a croissant like texture with the flakiness, but in the shape of a cinnamon roll, on top of a softer more bread like texture that can only be described kind of as a muffin. Okay, I know the description isn't great. But the mixture of different textures really wasn't something that jived with me. Even though the flavor was good, I think I would rather just eat a muffin, or just a brioche, or just a whatever.
Price was 6 euros, so definitely expensive, but it's Guy Savoy... so what do you expect? Overall, it was nice to try, but Im' not a huge fan.
tldr; expensive brioches by Guy Savoy... not the American concept of a brioche.. you've been warned read more
