Pork XLB 4pcs - apparently different quality from Pork&Crab XLBs. Skin were soggy. From the way it looked - it was machine pleated.

* I am a XLB (Xiao Long Bao) enthusiast, and I ordered their XLB only (eat-in). Thus my review is quite limited. This place is famous for its XLB (pork, and crabmeat & pork), but I recommend only the crabmeat & pork. My rating would be 3/5 based on these two kinds of XLB. The following is my reflection... We ordered - Pork XLB - Crab & Pork XLB Crab & Pork XLB had thinner nice chewy skin, beautifully pleated. Looked elegant. I appreciated their still serving this menu as many places stopped making crab XLBs these days. The crab flavor was less pronounced than before, but it had delicate soup inside. I valued the presentation and delicacy when it comes to XLB :) On the other hand - pork XLB was a big disappointment. The way it looked was hugely different than their crab & pork XLBs, I may be wrong, but it looked machine pleated and steamed from frozen. The taste was bold with no depth, and the skin was soggy and had no chewy texture. Flabby. We wondered how these two XLBs were so different. Also, both XLBs were served kind of lukewarm. It was a minus point for me, as I enjoy the heat evaporation process that releases aroma as I blow into its pocket. But we want to come back for their Crab & Pork XLB again with better temperature in 2023!

Jellyfish Side was tossed in vinegar, garlic and cucumbers. Great cold side dish!

If you want to switch up your palette and try some northern chinese food & dumplings, then this is the place to go! Walked in late afternoon and was greeted/seated right away. Menu had menu items to choose from and we loved their traditional steamed meat buns (can choose either 4 or 8 in one order) and the bun sizes are HUGE here! Lots of parking in this plaza and easy to find this restaurant, it's actually been here for quite some time and they're pretty consistent with the quality of their food compared to similar dumpling places in the area. You can definitely tell the difference in the taste at this place compared to the other dumpling place across the street (also serves northern chinese dumplings) that had dumplings that tasted like the frozen ones I get at supermarkets..Goubuli has higher quality food, filling was packed with lots of flavour, tables were clean with more comfortable seating! Great for group dining tucked in a corner close to the back but not fully enclosed, which I wasn't a huge fan of.. because it was next to the washrooms so there wasn't much privacy in my opinion. Unless you dine upstairs, but not recommended for seniors to walk up those stairs, it's not the best idea so I still prefer sitting in the open area (nothing fancy) because good food can be enjoyed anywhere!

it was really good. overall a much better choice price wise than somewhere like Quanjude (QJD) for Peking duck. the soup was AMAZING. however be prepared to ask for some salt for some items. service was good. interior was good. it's visiting multiple times.

Been wanting to try out Goubuli since they opened, but didn't get a chance to until recently! Goubuli is a Shanghainese (?) restaurant in Richmond Hill. It shares the parking lot with many, many other notable restaurants including Yu Seafood and Shinta - so beware of parking here and arrive early if you can. The parking lot itself is a bit of a mess. My mom and I arrived around 6pm on a Friday night and was able to get a table fairly quickly. We did notice that there ended up being more people waiting after we arrived though - but mostly larger groups of 4+. They also have an upstairs level, though I'm not sure how large that is. Service throughout the meal was just okay, but we didn't really bother the staff too much or ask any questions. They also offered green tea to us, but they mentioned it was $5 a person for that! That's crazy - so we just opted for hot water. Might as well stop by Machi Machi next door and get a bubble tea for the same price. We ordered some jajangmien (black bean noodles), xiaolong baos (soupy pork dumplings), regular pork & pickled cabbage dumplings, and some veggie dish with bamboo/mushrooms/asparagus/black fungus. The best were the XLBs - $8 for 8 is a very good price that you can't find anywhere anymore and was definitely the highlight of the meal. The skin wasn't too thick and inside was steamy and juicy. The regular pork dumplings on the other hand were kind of a letdown. They tasted like the frozen ones you buy at the store and make at home - nothing special. The jajangmien was just okay. We wished there were more black bean sauce and more veggies. It was overloaded with just noodles which wasn't the best noodle to topping ratio. The biggest disappointment was the veggie dish though. It had almost no flavour and was just very bland, especially compared to the umami in the other dishes we had. I'll come back for the XLBs, and maybe to try out their peking duck, but probably not anything else.

Went for a big family dinner and ordered a ton of food! Dumplings, Peking duck, chicken wraps and onion pancakes we're our faves! Tight seating, and boisterous atmosphere, but a lot of fun! Parking is tough in this busy plaza, but not uncommon for a spot with multiple restaurants. Kids loved the food!

Located at Jubilee Square, Gou Bu Li is a Shanghai Cuisine restaurant with impeccable decor inside. The doorway is a little narrow so don't rush in as you could bang right into people leaving. First impressions is that they have a very good decorator. Plates, teacups, the entire utensil set is beautiful. Food wise, the pricing is not bad. Crab Soup Dumplings 8/10. It was soupy. It was flavourful. The skin is thicker than what I was expecting. Fish Maw Soup - 6/10. It was lacking i flavour. The soup came hot though and you did see bits and pieces of crab. Garlic Snow Pea Tips - 9/10 This one was good. Might be the hunger talking. Might be the best part of my entire meal. Spicy Wontons in Chili Oil - 5/10. If you like szechuan peppers, this is the dish for you. The wontons were alright, nothing to rave about. I personally don't like the chili oil but that is also a preference. Roasted Quail - 5/10. This was super salty. The quail was very gamey, may not be the season for it. But for $32, I won't say that this is worth it. They do not give you the typical salt and pepper condiment dip that usual cuisines will give you. They do sass you a little bit when you ask for it. Spicy Beef Noodle Soup - 8/10 Noodles were a little overdone. The soup itself was tasty. Beef was tender. It was a very big portion, which is always nice. The soup does burn in your stomach from the spice mix though. But very very good. Overall, it was a meh experience. The servers don't know what's on their menu. The food is mediocre at best and for the price point, meh.

.Craving for some good juicy pork steam buns (Siu lung Bao). The Goubuli (@bao.toronto ) located in Richmond Hill on West Beaver Creek never disappoints!! Whenever I go for my beauty routine nearby I would pre-ordered some goodies by phone for takeout from Goubuli. Watch out for the blast of meat juice when biting into that yummy siu lung bao coz it might splash everywhere!! Don't forget to dip into the vinegar and hot oil for an extra level of yumminess! My other fav there is pan fried dumplings and we normally ordered 2 of them as one order only comes with 4 dumplings. Their baked scallion pancake was very good as well, I could imagine it would be even better when eaten fresh when dine in. Goubuli juicy Pork steamed buns ($9.99/8) Pan Fried dumplings -- pork and cabbage ($6.99/4) Baked Scallion Pancake ($4.98/6) Note: Paid by cash gets 10% off. 280 West Beaver Creek Rd, unit 35, Richmond Hill 905-731-5775 Follow me on IG @eatntravelrepeat for more food adventures!!

It's been a couple of years since we've been here. The overall quality and taste of the food is above average. Service was friendly and the food was brought out promptly. One complaint I did bring to the waitress' attention is the flickering pot lights. It made the whole dining experience a nightmare - imagine having several, not just one, constantly flickering down at your table. The waitress mentioned they're already aware and are still waiting for their contractors to come and replace the bulbs. Other than that, prices are reasonable for the quality you get. They have a great variety of dishes to choose from - appropriate for both children and adult, as well as small and larger groups.

Don't be fooled by the conservative appearance outside. The inside is very clean and modern, and I'd consider this to be an upscale very of chinese food - relative to the many other options in toronto. The food focuses on northern chinese style cuisine that are traditionally prepared. Prices are a bit higher than other chinese restaurants in the area, but they do make up for it with the service, decor of the interior, and quality of ingredients. They seem to have space to host larger gatherings upstairs and at the back of the restaurant on the ground floor. During the covid19 stage 3, they setup patio seating outside which most customers tend to favour. So you could have the whole restaurant to yourself if you sit indoors.

This restaurant has the best dimsum I've ever tasted, and I've been to over a thousand restaurants all over Asia. Their dishes are very scrumptious & delicious, the service is very prompt and friendly, and the restaurant is clean & modern. We will definitely be back here often in the future

I came here for Chinese New Year dinner with my family so I do recall they ordered a heck of a ton more dishes than what I've detailed above. I just didn't try any of them so I didn't feel it right to rate/comment on them given that I didn't have the firsthand experience. The food is delicious here and I think it's my favorite Chinese restaurant now. With regards to the service, it definitely seemed to have improve since the last time I was here. We were seated earlier than the time we had reserved for and the staff there were extremely helpful with actions like replacing our plates once they had a certain amount of usage (still not sure why this is something that is commonly done, but hey, I appreciate the gesture nonetheless!), bringing us extra glasses of cold water when asked, explaining menu items to us when we looked puzzled and so forth! Onto the dishes we ordered: [Sliced Cucumber with Garlic] $5.99 - it's exactly what it sounds like and it's delicious! [Shredded Potatoes] $5.99 - I'm not sure if this dish comes in a non-spicy variety as well but my cousin ordered one that definitely had a kick to it! I'd likely prefer a variant that isn't spicy but it's not bad; order this dish if you enjoy shredded raw potatoes that have a slight spicy-vinegary flavor to it. [Spicy Hand Pulled Chicken] $15.99 - I love hand pulled chicken normally as I hate having to deal with taking bones out of my food - what can I say, I like convenience and taking bones out is just too much of a hassle. I'm extremely glad that we ordered the spicy version as I honestly would have been smitten with just ordering this one dish and a bowl of white rice! YUM [Sliced Roast Duck] $38.99 - I cannot emphasize how much you need to order this dish if you are a lover of eating duck. The duck here is tender to the point where you might think that the duck lived the most relaxing life prior to it being butchered for the meal. I recognize now that the imagery is not that great in my last sentence but you genuinely have to give this dish a shot! This is the kind of sliced roast duck dish that comes with spring pancakes, green onions, and cucumbers. [Tianjin Style Sweet & Sour Soup] $8.99 - I was told that this was hot and sour soup... Typically, hot and sour soup is of a reddish/orange color so I was pretty confused when the soup arrived and it was more of a tan color than anything else. Honestly, the soup was pretty good! It wasn't spicy at all and was a little sour. I would say there is no sweet aspect whatsoever in this soup but still yummy. [Fried Rice with Squid Ink] $18.99 - I was a little hesitant to try any of this dish when it arrived.... The reason for this was because the black rice was structured almost to look like a statue of a grill. As it turns out, that's just the design they went with and it was the black rice all along! This rice tastes a lot better than you'd think. I'd order it again 100% as the flavors, although subtle, were scrumptious. It might look daunting but trust me, it'll make your stomach happy! Ensure you make reservations or order take out because this place tends to get packed! I guess it's not a well kept secret that they make good food because it seems like the whole city comes here to eat sometimes :D

Located in another food heavy plaza in Richmond Hill, Gou Bu Li is a great alternative when you're feeling like good food, minimal wait times, and a classier setting. Their menu is pretty extensive and seems to span over different types of Chinese cuisine though focusing on Northern fare. There are a ton of photos that I found were pretty accurate so that can help with your decision process. The 3 Cup Chicken sounded pretty interesting to me and I learned that it is a traditional Taiwanese dish. I'm not entirely sure what the three cups refer to but I can say that it was heaping with flavour. They are sauced wings but wok-fried so they weren't dripping or anything. They paired really well with the plain steamed buns that were soft even after sitting out for some time. For dessert it only seemed right that we get the pumpkin pancakes. Only the exterior has the pumpkin in it and it was very mild. The inside was a red bean paste that wasn't too sweet. They also have little cakes/pastries that they make daily in a display case inside the restaurant. We didn't actually know what each one was since there were no labels but they are listed on the menu under desserts. I didn't have any this time but was told they were decent. They might be medium pricey as I think I've seen some macarons go for that price that looked a lot neater than these did. The service for us was pretty good as staff were attentive when we did get their attention. Their take out containers were clear plastic and it came with a pretty nice branded plastic bag as well.

I really like the delicious food, the cleanliness, the services and the decor. I would take parents and in-laws here for dinners. It is that good. Issue is the high prices. I love to come here over and again, but I can't afford it. The rating doesn't take into account the price level. I want people to discover the food here.

Curry Beef Brisket Rice was stewed well to achieve really tender tendons. These are still two of our go-to dishes here. The macaroni soup was just okay, very much the kind of simple comfort food that fills you up, but nothing especially memorable. I was most excited for the signature beef sandwich, but it didn't fully meet my expectations. The burger/sandwich itself was smaller than I imagined, and it only had about 2-3 pieces of beef brisket inside with marinated bell peppers and their homemade sauce. The sauce leaned sweeter than expected, which might work for some people, but personally I was hoping for something more savoury and more generous with the beef. However, the brisket was tender, which was a win... ish. Overall, still a decent spot if you're craving classic HK cafe vibes and variety, especially for a casual meal with family.

We originally ordered the hk style toast from the afternoon tea menu, but they suggested ordering off the regular menu, since we had 3 complimentary drinks and only 2 people. It's $3 cheaper and has an extra slice of bread. I didn't appreciate the extra slice, until I saw that they put pb in between each slice. While that was appreciated, the pb didn't reach the edges (about an inch in). Came with a big piece of butter on top. Nothing exciting, but if I were craving it, I wouldn't stop myself from ordering it. We came on a Friday. It was pretty empty, we could choose our seat, but it's always busy on weekends for dinner. Service is quick as expected with little customers. Restaurant looks like an old Chinese restaurant, but has the staples.
