We we're told to stop here for breakfast from a bartender in Bar Harbor but got a late start on a day trip to Bass Harbor head Lighthouse. We stopped for snacks and drinks and I spotted the carrot cake. All I can say is WOW! I think this is the best carrot cake I've had between Canada and South America. It is loaded with raisins and chopped nuts with about a 1/2" of cream cheese frosting. They have a variety of goods and the kitchen smelled great but the carrot cake is a must try. I expected a simple gas station-esque store with drinks and chips, but this store kept going. There were certainly chips and drinks, but also wine, groceries, and freshly made treats to name a few offerings. Incredibly slow, didn't tell us they only took cash, and they made a blueberry float in a small cup and not a drink cup ? Used to love getting pizza here, but this summer the service has been really below par, and the store seems to be badly supervised. Dirty, sticky floors. Ice cream so covered with ice you couldn't read the labels, and when we got it home, it had clearly been melted and refrozen more than once. Got only busy signals when we tried to call in an order, so we came in - the store wasn't busy, but nobody was minding the phone. It took over an hour to get the pizza, and the toppings were wrong. Okay so the outside of this place needs some love, but the store and ice cream are AMAZING. They have cute chairs in the back, swing sets, and picnic tables. The ice cream is giffords. They also have soft serve. The fried dough bomb was so good and they cooked it when I ordered. This might not look like a good place to stop - but let me tell you it is. So after a really disappointing experience at the famous lobster pound down the road in Bernard, after a day of high adventure hiking, cliff climbing and rock hopping all around coastal MDI, tonight we decided to do takeout on the way back to our cottage in Tremont. Having hit Gott's Store early in the AM after visiting the local awesome Skip's Auto Service (who saved our butts), I knew it had everything under the sun, plus an extensive short order cooking operation (and ice cream) in the back. A local there said the pizza was great. We pulled the menu and it had 6 pages of everything from gourmet white pizzas to lobster rolls to fish and chips to veggie subs. It was crazy all the choices this little place could accommodate. Even better, with 4 hungry kids, the prices were really good. They'd be good back home in St. Petersburg, FL, which means by MDI standards it was darn near free. We had one 20" pizza with ham and 1/2 black olives, 2 fried haddock dinners with onion rings, and one popcorn shrimp basket with rings for $36. ...and we have left overs. Gott's rocks. Even their stock of microbrew beers is priced well. The gas is also 7 cents/gallon cheaper than its competitor 1/2 mile away. The folks there were friendly and helpful, even offering us a tip on a quick site seeing thing to do while our food was being cooked. Five stars all the way and our new "go to" place for anything we need during our trip. read more

Our neighbors kept telling us to get pizza from Gott's and I kept thinking "the creepy gas station down the road? No way." Decided to give it a shot out of desperation this winter because they are the only place open at night. Holy crap. Legit pizza! And the baked goods they keep by the register are OFF. THE. CHAIN. Ordered a large pizza with 3topping only 1 topping was right and rest of order was a medium cheese pizza that was dry and over cooked two orders of chicken wings and a large steak and cheese. there is a sign that says check your order before you leave because you can not return it after you leave. there is no place to put food down and check if they prepared my food the way I ordered it. Have been going here for years and sad to say it's been going down hill for some time now. wish the owner would take the time and care about the customers again read more

So we needed to get groceries & Sawyers Market, while amazing, is a little pricey. We also needed a quick fix on feeding 20 people. Gotts Store helped with all. Decent prices for groceries & made to order pizzas. They also have a ice cream counter / eatery out on the side. Their BLLT sandwiches (bacon, lettuce, lobster & tomato) are great!!! Fantastic pizza for take-out-only from an unlikely Gas Station-convenience store kitchen We ordered a 20 inch veggie pizza. It was loaded with Green peppers, onions, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms and black olives. Right amount of Cheese and tasty pizza sauce made it so good! I lived on MDI for two years and I will say that this place is the best place to get Whoopie Pies. I only got gas here maybe once since it wasn't on my way to work in Bar Harbor but that's when I grabbed a few of the baked goods sitting by the check-out. OMG! I went back every other night to get whoopie pies and even three years after I moved out of Maine, I STILL think of this place when craving something sweet! read more
