My car looks new again! Having a black car, it's rare that I get to drive around looking super clean, since even one day after a car wash it'll start showing all the dust and dirt it collected. But when I took my car to Gorilla Buff last month, they went above and beyond, polishing and waxing my car so thoroughly that dust no longer collects as easily--it simply blows off as I drive. What can I say... Mike is a true professional, and I had no idea that my car (Audi Q5) could look this good! I called him to try out his "new car prep" service on my 2-week-old Model S. He came to my house and worked for about 5 hours in my driveway (you can drop your car off or he'll come to you, I chose the latter). When he walked me around the car and showed me his work, I was impressed by how perfect every inch of the car looked. Other people have said "looked better than the day I drove it home", and that's no exaggeration. Not a trace of a paint swirl or imperfection anywhere, the wheels so clean they looked brand new, not a speck anywhere on the glass including the headlights, and of course a beautiful deep-gloss shine. J&R did an absolutely amazing job on my Prius. I was going to sell my car (high-five to Mike, I sold it on the first day) so I went on Groupon and contemplated the ~$60-150 detail deals. My white Prius was looking really janky so I knew I needed it -I had barely kept up with washes AND I paddlboard so had sand wearing away at the sheen on top of the car. There were also dings and scratches from L.A. parking lots and "cracked eggshell" looking lines by the handles of the car from use. Not pretty. I didn't have that much hope for a great detail but I still did the requisite groupon/yelp researching to find the perfect balance of good service/decent deal. After some digging, I saw J&R had a deal on Groupon for $275 -twice as much as the next Groupon for detailing; I scoffed, like "no way, his detail can't be that much better"...but then a little voice was like "but what if it is"...with my interest piqued, I decided not to buy the groupon but call Mike directly to see what he could do (sidenote: Groupon takes a huge cut, so try to reach out to anyone advertising on there to see if you can cut out the middleman for them -it's almost always appreciated). This turned out to be a GREAT idea. He was super nice, asked questions about what I needed, worked within my budget, and got me the absolute best bang for my buck. It ended up being less than the cost of the Groupon and exactly what the car needed. So basically the opposite experience of any other detail I've had in the past. SO MANY TIMES I've "sprung" for the $60-$120 dollar detail and then wished that I would have just bought the $10-$20 wash because the "detail" job was so half-baked. I'd drive away and the car would be clean but like, the kind of clean you could do yourself if you went nuts on your own car some Sunday. Sure, the water stain ring on my passenger seat would be lighter and those scratches and dullness in the paint were kind of covered from the wax, but only for the first few days. And the scuffs by the wheels -and don't forget those tiny gravel chips by the hood- were all still there; but I was okay with that because I thought I'd need a 1k-2k paint job if I wanted something more. I had no idea that just details could actually reverse time and get rid of "permanent" damage. Seriously, my mind was blown when Mike drove up with my car for drop-off. I barely recognized it; it looked that good. It looked like I'd literally put thousands of dollars into it. Bottom Line: You detail your car because you have dreams that the stain on your seat could not only be lightened but actually be gone and your paint could actually be retouched and repaired so it holds a rich gloss that lasts way longer than a wash/wax WITHOUT paying to have it repainted. This is THAT kind of detail. Yes, you're going to pay three times as much as the $80 guy who underpays his constantly-rotating staff and could care less about your car, but why waste $80 every 3-6 months for dusting your dashboard, when once or twice a year you can actually pay slightly more and not only be amazed by the end result but actually improve the worth of your car (I sold my Prius for it's asking price on the first day, which was $800 more than I thought I would get for it -I'm 100% convinced I would never have gotten that without all the paint repair/chip and luster work Mike did). It's not even worth comparing the services from the $50-$80 detail to J&R's: this is a different beast.This is where you go if you want your understanding about what details can do to change forever. This is the type of place where your car goes into a time machine and comes back looking like a car you didn't know you could afford. IT'S THAT GOOD. read more
