I am also seeing Dr. Brent Walker since Aug 2022 for pain management associated with my spine. He has amazing compassionate bedside manners and an understanding of the problem as well as taking a very long time to listen & review your case!! His nurses Shelley & Kelly are amazing - kind and thorough, responding quickly to call-backs. Kudos to his scheduler Jennifer also who responds quickly to scheuling needs. I have also seen Kristen Walker the injection nurse for Dr Walker and thought she too was very thorough and compassionate. I have recommended many people to OrthoArkansas. I read the 1 star comments and hope that the office manager can resolve their problems but many are common to other doctors offices. Glad those patients were able to be heard.

If you have a job and consider taking off to come here, I would be very wary.

I can only say it was a ghastly experience with miserable communication skills, an unprofessional…read morestaff that gossiped incessantly to a very "captive" audience, very little assistance from the start with a complete lack of post-op bathroom skills ( I had to take myself twice the first night because no one responded to my call button within an hour's time, absolutely inadequate pain management because a) pain meds were always one hour late and 2) no comprehensive discussions were had prior to surgery about pain management. OR if they were had , patient needs were completely ignored. A physician/department head who lies about previous encounters with you perhaps not on purpose but because he truly cannot remember anything individual about his patients. He quoted conversations he believes we had that literally never took place. My husband can verify this. An LPN team member who somehow has the ability to advise you on your narcotic intake. I truly thought that privilege belonged to physicicians, PA's and Residents. This LPN advised me to double my pain meds. Which made me run out quicker leaving me with deep muscle pain and a suggested treatment option on my part that this physician immediately shot down without even a phone call to my GP. My discharge orders included no review of when to resume my daily medications for other healthcare problems. A truly horrible, painful experience from beginning to end. One more minor yet vexxing matter I had requested a soft diet from Dietary because I left my dentures at home for safekeeping. I received fried chicken for lunch with an extra crispy piece of toasty garlic bread. Is this entire facility tone deaf? Additionally as a Fibromyalgia patient going in for surgery, there were absolutely no conversations about special pain needs. Make sure you bring up sufficient post-surgical pain care because he will not. I saw Dr. Barnes 3 times. At my initial visit with my husband. I found Dr. Barnes distant and difficult to engage in discussion. He was dismissive of my MRI which did show a torn labrum but while my MRI was "not thevworst he had seen" he suggested we proceed as it might hurt more because of the Fibro. That was literally our only conversation about Fibro. He then told me I needed to lose weight and he left. I did not see him again until months later the morning of my surgery where he assured me all would be fine. He is not particularly warm and fuzzy and reassuring. I then saw him very early the next morning on his rounds whereupon he playfully grabbed the surgical leg and again assured me all would be fine. It was not fine. My pain levels were not normal. Please keep all of this in mind when you make your decision. And he does not use physical therapy on hip patients. Another piece of information we were kept in the dark about until the morning of the surgery. You spend 6 weeks in a walker at home, then 6 weeks on a cane. You get a handout of minimal PT exercises you can do but he will not order real Physical Therapy treatment for you. In fact, apparently he is so opposed to the idea, my husband and I were warned by many hospital staff members not to even mention it with him. A really bizarre experience over all. Since speaking to my GP, we have found a better management for my pain and a guarantee that he will order Physical Therapy for me at the end of 6 weeks if we feel it is needed. Always get a second opinion. I regret going through with this.
