Several years ago, after my mother passed away, we called the Goodwill in Richlands, VA to donate furniture, appliances, bedding, etc. The woman said she'd have to send a driver, and she'd call me back. She didn't call back, so I called her. She claimed their truck couldn't make it up the road. I told her that, believe it or not, my mother's furniture and appliances had been delivered by box trucks, and carried up the steps. Surely a box truck could do the same thing, and the "workers" would have an easier task coming DOWN the steps. She refused.
It's little wonder that area - a dying little coal town - has one of the highest unemployment and poverty rates in the state. read more
