This place is a joke. Over the past 12 months this place has gone from a non-profit to definitely making a profit. Over priced for what the store is. Toys are dirty, broken. Anything related to an upcoming holiday is priced as if you buying it from a retail store. So called new merchandise is priced based on what staff look up and find online. Kind of an interesting little Goodwill store. Since I was in the area on vacation, I opted to check out this little thrift store with my wife because we're always down for scoring some unique vintage item or snagging some kitschy memento when we're visiting a different area. First, this is a smaller Goodwill by standards of more urban cities. It wasn't big, but it was clean. I was impressed with how clean it looked. I didn't even sneeze, which never happens in a thrift store like Goodwill ir Salvation Army. It was surely cleaner than just about any Goodwill store I've patronized before. I didn't even need Handi Wipes. Everything was organized and labeled with clear price tags. I didn't have to rummage through heaps of crap to find anything. It was very well laid out and organized, items were clean, no damage, with many newer items that were still in boxes, but very little Target merchandise, which is standard for most Goodwill stores. Honestly, I didn't even spot anything new that had been merchandised out and discarded recently from Target to go to donation, which is the norm for every Goodwill store around. It probably has to do with the fact that there isn't a Target in the nearby area. They did have some unusual items, however. I found a quirky coffee mug that featured artwork from the Omar Sharif-Julie Christie feature film, Dr. Zhivago. A Dr. Zhivago mug? Really? I can't believe we found that and that a Goodwill in Oscoda had it. Who knew? It was the best example of kitsch I had seen in a Goodwill store. That was funny. I chuckled a bit at it. It was definitely kitsch, but we probably have enough of the quirky coffee mugs that we only use on a rare occasion when we want a good laugh, just to get a kick out of them. Elsewhere, they had the usual piles of used electronics, vinyl records, books, old videos, and kids toys. I walked out without buying anything this particular trip, but as far as small town Goodwill stores go, it was not bad. Best goodwill store out of the three I went to of the mid michigan region. SO clean SUCH great service and I find AWESOME stuff every time I go. This is a great stop for anyone going through Oscoda! read more
