Madison seems to have 3 types of thrift stores. Goodwill, St Vinnies, and those run by churches…read moreand/or church ladies. This is the latter type, and they all seem to be very similar (Bethesda, Agrace, etc). Less crowds, traffic, anxiety, and clutter than Goodwill and St Vinnies, but also less selection. Check back regularly and you will find some treasures. For the most part the prices are fair. If I specifically need something, I start with Goodwill, because I have the best chance of browsing. But I dont always feel like stopping in Goodwill just to browse. Versus it can be very peaceful to stop in Boomerangs, or similar. I've probably been there a dozen times since they opened, and bought something 3 of the times. They have furniture, which not all thrift stores carry. The staff has always been helpful.

Recently my dog has had some bloodwork issues - my vet asked if they could see the bloodwork from his neutering appt. to see if maybe the bloodwork is just normal for him(dog) however when I called Underdog to get the bloodwork they said they didn't do any-because we(dogs owners) didn't request it. This is something that should always be done and I am guessing the rescue place didn't want to pay for that therefore not important. My dogs life is important to me so If you take your dog or cat or whatever pet to this clinic - make sure you are asking the right questions - I personally wouldn't go here again. That test is to help find anything that might cause a problem during the operation. I would find another clinic.

The Madison Reading Project has a mobile book mobile that they use to bring books to children for special events such as a recent bike giveaway held at the school I work at. Each child received a free book!! A few weeks later I received an email stating it was my turn to come to their store to shop for 25 books for my classroom at no cost! They do this to help teachers and specialists build up their classroom libraries to help foster a joy of reading and build literacy skills in children. They accept book donations, are always looking for volunteers and host fundraisers like the recent Ready to Wear fashion show where all clothing was made only of paper--no fabric. The Madison Reading Project is a great non profit to support!

I was reminded of them in an ad just after my bike was stolen and I was in need of a new one. Their selection of actual bikes is really dependent on what recent donations they've gotten, and I happened to get lucky when I was looking. If you don't need a bike, they also have a selection of used parts you can dig through if you want to try something out on your bike or even build one (they also have some new parts). Mechanics are very knowledgeable. Haven't had a chance to do any of their classes. A friend who used to live here really liked them as well, and they have a good mission.
