Jeff is an old-fashioned mechanic. He's available when you need him, he's quick, he's fair, and he has the know-how and the staff to get you back on the road. We take all of our vehicles to Jeff because he's a straight-shooter who treats customer vehicles like his own. My wife's car's transmission took a dump and Jeff was able to get it back up and running within a week (including the time it took to ship a tranny up here in Salmon!). His prices are reasonable and he always comes in close to or under budget! It's hard to find a good mechanic, but I did and I'll be his customer for life. Simply put, I trust him. read more

Went in to get a problem fixed that was diagnosed in California. Talked to Jeff & he verified the problem. However the estimate in CA was much much higher because they wanted to change parts that were still good. I asked Jeff if he thought I should replace all the other parts and he said, "if it was my car, I wouldn't, they look fine ". It's so nice to deal with a very honest repair shop. Called Good News Garage about 10 AM 7/14/15 if they could make service call---said he needed to check to see if he could do the work on my Toyota---checked and said he could but would be the morning before he could get to me---I said ok. He said he would call before he left. 2 PM I called. He said he would be here at 4 PM. He called at 4:15 and said he wasn't going to come!! My review of service are extremely poor!!! read more

While traveling to Montana, my transmission went out about 20 miles South of Salmon, Idaho. I had the car towed to Good News because they were the only mechanics in town that had been reviewed. I'm so glad I did ! Jeff took very good care of me and my car. He took a look at it right away, in spite of his busy schedule, and then personally drove me around town with my baggage to choose a motel. It took 3 days to complete the repair, because the rebuilt transmission had to be ordered from Salt Lake City, but once it arrived, Jeff spent every spare moment working to get me back on the road. He even worked on his day off, since he knew I was eager to be on my way after 3 days in a small town with no car. read more

My boyfriend and I are visiting family up here in Salmon and as I was driving around town, the car started to drive really rough and the check engine light came on. I gave Jeff Olson a call and asked if they had a moment to check my diagnostic computer with their code reader. Jeff was very nice and was able to check it out right away. When I arrived at the garage, he plugged the machine in and tinkered under the hood of the car for a minute. Within minutes he was able to figure out the problem and locate a parts shop in town that had a replacement part. I'm sitting on the couch in the air conditioned office and they are fixing the car as I type this. He just came in and said it was almost done. Very nice, professional, and ethical with reasonable and fair prices! Highly recommend these guys! He was a nice guy but told us we needed a new transmission when we were having car trouble. There was a noise coming from front left tire. He wanted to repair transmission for $1000+. My husband's dad is a mechanic so after a phone call to him we wanted to get a second opinion. We were on a family vacation so were really stressed out thinking about cost and extended time we were stuck in town. Went to another shop and it turned out we had some loose lug nuts on our tire. Car was fixed in 10 minutes. Not sure where he got the idea we needed a new transmission. Based on this discovery it means he didn't even take of tire where the noise was coming from. I hate to write a bad review for anyone but seriously? This doesn't seem like an "honest" mistake. read more
