Across the street are small pop-up shops on the weekends that sell local crafts. There are also other souvenir shops in the immediate area but this place is my favorite. Met Sergio the owner/designer and he was really cool and just celebrated their 5th anniversary the day we were there.

They really care about their customers. We bought a gift certificate there... we want them to be open when life returns to normal. The regular stock includes many items for English speakers, including textbooks for learning Portuguese. This is a local treasure that deserves support and gives it back to the people who live here. I'm sure the Portuguese language books are kept current. Someday I hope to be able to read them!

The map selection isn't bad either - one can find an atlas of Europe, as well as one of Spain and Portugal. The latter is one I looked for in a number of bookstores in Lisbon with no success, but there it was in Cascais.

I like the…read morehuge variety of yogurt available there - when you've gone down the long yogurt aisle, there still the sales on the ends. And if that's not enough - just to the side of the produce there's an organic food section with more yogurt. There's a good selection of wines, though the Continente in the Cascais Shopping Center has more variety. And and overwhelming selection of cheeses - most Portuguese (many from goat and sheep milk) but some from other parts of Europe. There's a few items in the meat section that would be unusual to North Americans, such as whole skinned rabbits, tongue and all, and small packages containing 10 tiny birds, frozen, the whole thing just weighing a couple hundred grams, for Euro 6.50 There's also a big selection of non-food items. One section is even a small music store, only about three meters wide, with electric guitars, strings, amps, picks - whatever you'd need to rock out, at least small-scale.... Plenty of computers and accessories, phones, etc., auto supplies, and on and on. There's another floor above this with some small shops, and a large parking area, both in front of the Jumbo and on the roof. There's toilets (free) on both floors, and a Multibanco Caixa automatico.

They have a nice collection of shops, and have a huge Pingo Doce (which is like something like a…read morehuge Target or a new Safeway) that offers a selection of goods I have not seen elsewhere (even in Continente, which is like a huge-r Target/Costco size but with Target prices). There's also a food court up in the top floors, but 1) It's not well ventilated or air conditioned: felt stuffy and hot 2) I saw a cockroach crawling on the floor while I drank coffee. I dislike all bugs, and unfortunately there wasn't a staff nearby to point it out to. I might go back for the shops, but I don't think I'll be eating there again.
