I live in America, but I come to Spain every summer with my family. We're from a town about an hour…read moreaway from León, and every time we're in the city around dinnertime, we stop to eat some pizza at La Competencia.
The pizza here beats any pizza I've ever eaten in the U.S., and I've been to some pretty upscale pizzerias with extravagant prices. I ALWAYS order the "prosciutto" pizza - which is just ham, cheese and tomato sauce (which is very light) and it's pure heaven. I rarely, if ever, eat more than four/five slices of pizza at a restaurant, and I easily eat the whole pizza (8 small-ish slices - definitely filling, though) by myself.
The restaurant is always busy, but there's never a long wait for a table, even on weekends. Eating outside on the patio at night in the summer is great - I highly recommend it. The wait for the food is never too long, and the staff are polite enough.
I'm 100% sure that if there happened to be one of these restaurants in the U.S., they'd be really popular. The pizzas aren't expensive (most are between 7 and 9 Euros) and they're crazy good.
I can't wait to go back to Spain next summer for some more of this pizza!
