Huge portions, Mr Higgings, huge I tell you!…read more Having just completed the mammoth journey from oop north to our new abode, fast food was a must. This chish and fips was near by and open. 2 medium-sized fish and chips, (cod, fyi), came with a free side, yay! The fish was skin on, which I've always thought of being a northern thing, and perhaps wrongly so. The size was massive. The batter was a deep golden colour, and honestly, I've had lighter, airy-er batter. However the fish inside was moist and flakey and tasty. The chips were chunky, golden with the right mix of crispy and soft. I did think that it was a tad expensive, at first, but that was before seeing a battered cod the size of my face! Customer service was a bit mediocre. Smiles, pleases and thank yous really do help. There looks to be a bit more to explore on the menu, but there are other places to try before I decide if this will be come a go to for catholic inspiration for fat friday take out.

Decided to give this chip shop another go…read more Found portions had got smaller and the prices had gone up! A large chips consists of a fairly large tray with a completely level serving of chips. The chip shop in Rayleigh gives you almost double the amount for 30p less. I would call this a medium! Also had to wait over 15 minutes for the large chips and wasn't even acknowledged by the shop staff for nearly 10 minutes as they were too busy arguing over who hadn't wrote down the order of another unhappy customer. People were standing around rolling their eyes and tutting while all this was going on and to be honest, they were there longer than me so I can see exactly why they weren't very happy. I know it was a Saturday night but service always seems to be really slow in there. Maybe my expectations a re too high and wanting my food in less than 15 minutes is too much to ask for... I'll let you guys decide...
