I have been visiting Maxim for years and it is seriously a hidden gem in West London…read more The food is unlike the usual Chinese cuisine in London which is often over greasy and heavy, the food here is extremely light, beautifully cooked and the service and presentation is fantastic. I highly recommend the crispy chilli beef, the king prawns with garlic and spring onion and, of course, peking duck. I recently visited this spot and ordered a pot of jasmine tea which was perfect with the meal, it aided digestion and meant that no one became too full or felt sickly after the inappropriately large meal we ate! Really recommend this to any Chinese food fans.

The opposite of 'crispy', the tofu was cooked in some kind of disgusting transparent jelly . Grill Shack is a brand new American diner style restaurant in Soho on Beak Street. It officially…read moreopened today, but I swung by there last night as they had a soft opening. Grill Shack straddles the boundary between fast food and a family friendly/casual restaurant with table service. Indeed on the Tuesday night there were several waiters milling around, however, unlike practically every other restaurant, these waiters do not take orders or wait on tables. Instead these friendly waiters where there to explain "the concept." And it's a 4 step process at that! First, you are seated by a hostess and given menus. Second, you then order either at the counter, or at a kiosk, or on their iphone app---the later was still being worked on. Third you pick up your drinks and/or sauces. Lastly, (and only a few minutes later) your food appears. Maybe these waiters do more than explain the concept after-all. I'm still not bought into the wonky concept, however, I did like the prices.... Speaking of which, Grill Shack is remarkably affordable, Try £4.95 for a burger or about 9 quid for a rump steak with fries. There was also a tasty looking 1/2 chicken for just under £8. That's practically fast food prices but with the quality you'd expect at more up-market chain like Byron. Soft drinks come in under 2 quid and come with 1 free refill. The food was actually good especially considering the price. My burger came on a nice brioche bun (I ordered bacon as an extra). It was cooked medium and was on par with what I've had at GBK and Byron. However, Grill Shack is much much quicker and a bit cheaper. They also have ice cream cookie sandwiches and carrot cake for dessert. All in, despite the unusual ordering system (it's never great when they have to have staff explain how to order food in a restaurant) I liked my experience at Grill Shack and would be back. It's priced right, the food came out ridiculously fast and was rather tasty.

This place serves Thai and Sushi so I wasn't convinced about this place at all. I wasn't expecting much from this place. But at the same time I knew my friends wouldn't even dare thinking of going to a place where buffets are heated up day after day with poor quality food. On arrival it was pretty empty. We were the only party although it was only 6pm. By 7pm this place was buzzing and all tables were filled with hungry people. Staffs are friendly and great customer services. The variety of food you could choose was amazing. Everything else was almost freshly done, especially the sushi as the chef makes it in front of you and the rice was nice and soft unlike most places like Wasabi were the rice are pretty hard as it's been sitting at the fridge for a while. The other hot food are also cooked per order and we didn't have to wait too long (15mins) for proper cooked meal. But it never felt long as there's always food coming to our table! There wasn't a time limit per table so we literally sat there and ate for 3 hours. It was so worth the money (£15 pp). Absolutely love all the maki, nigri and temakiz as well as their pad thai and thai fish cake was really good (approved by one of our Thai friend). Their fish was fresh (obviously not top notch but not stale either). Their honey lemongrass tea was yummy. It was unlimited refill too with proper honey. Thumbs up! The only thing which we didn't like was the spare ribs as they were way over done. I wasn't too keen on their coconut Tom Yum. I felt I was having coconut soup rather than Tom Yum but their prawns in there was fresh and juicy. There's also one toilet per gender so there tends to be a mini queue. I wish this was based in Central London because I would be returning very regularly. I might need to find another excuse to visit this place in the near future!
